Tim's WIP's

The colours of the trousers compliment the overall feel, and the lighter tone of the boots is great. Maybe add some scuffing on the toe of the boot as there looks to be a hole, would give a reason for the hole in wear & tare

Hang on in there mate you're doing a stunning job here. Just have a look at how you were painting when you first started this WIP and the quality you're putting out now; it's inspiring stuff. Hope the rest of the month goes better for you :)

*deploys pom-poms* The colour you've picked for the pants fits in nicely with the overall look. I'll be cheering for you from the sidelines!

Thanks guys. The encouragement this forum brings to the table really does help get through the tough times.

So so my bad month got worst and I said goodbye to a dear friend. It's been pretty tough and not going to get any easier as the wake isn't for another few weeks.

painting club came to the rescue again and made me do some work. We had a great session discussing weathering and contrast and my guys are coming along really well.

K managed to do the final highlights to the face, the decrative belt and start the weathering on the miniatures right boot.

(sorry short post with no replies to anyone as I'm up a stupid o'clock)

C&C welcome

Condolences on your loss Tim. Take care.

That decorative belt is just made of awesomesauce! Weathering looks to be off to a good start. As a matter of interest, are you going to use inks over it to blend it back into the base leather work?

i'm sorry man. losing a friend is real rough, something too many of us have learned form experience. take care of yourself and good on the painting club for helping you through this tough time.
i'm loving all the highlights on his face, makes him look real old and wizened and that belt is damm near perfect. can't wait to see the final result of the weathering too.

Sending some courage from here, really sorry about your loss.

On the other hand your orc is progressing to excellence. Really love this piece of yours, specially his face, leather coat and belts. Also boots and trousers are great!

Ok back to normality (he says tentertivly in case Cosmic irony hears me)

thanks again for the support everyone, Gingers death rocked me pretty hard.
He was a constant presence in the pub and I've seen him more over the last 5 years than my wife and son. He was in a coma for a week after a heart attack and without going into to much detail I was the only person there when he finally gave up the fight. It was a pretty profound experience, both humbling and distressing. I'm lucky as this was my first firsthand experience of somebody passing and I've been wrestling with the emotional fallout since. Fortunalty everyone has been great and the guys in my painting group have (unwhittingly) really helped. My group consists of 6/7 people who are all relatively new to painting. I've found it incredibly rewarding teaching them all the basics of colour theory, paint consistancy, palate choices and the benifits of both etc etc and they are all really coing along.

So enough of that!

Progress has been slow but I'm getting back into the zone. What I'm struggling with now is the base. I've made a small circular base with a gently sloping beach (which will have a resin sea) a broken ship wheel and some other wreckage but I've decided to use that for Papa Jambo (he just looks better on it) No w I'm left with the dilemma of either a small base where the Cartographer is the soul to as or a 180mm tall diorama. The diorama would be a 3 deck pirate ship cross section, including the Orc captain, Cartographer, 2 priate monkies and lots of other piratey extras! While I know this will be a s**t ton of work (and I still need to finish War) this is what I'm leaning towards, thoughts?

Arch - yep this is part of the base weathering. Inks, army painter soft tone and more paint will blend it all back to a far less servere finish

Claire - great to see you back mate xx

WGS - great suggestion and extra scuffs have been added

Quantum man - thanks dude, it's weird to look back on the first Dragon man (who still stares at me accusingly, un-based from the cupboard) I'm in 2 minds weather to keep him as is so I can see my progression or to strip him and paint him again using what I've learnt!! In the last 2ish years hmmmmmmmm

thanks Johnboy, Joyce, Diggs, Kbear, Maenas and everyone else on here. You guys are my Muses

thanks man, it's great to be back too. that's extremely rough, but it's good to see you've got plenty of support. that painting group sounds like a blast! how'd you set it up?
as for the base, i'd say go big or go home! it may be a lot of work but it is good to push yourself from time to time. it really helps with your skills.

mmmmm....
I don't see myself doing a Ballet "sauteé" all dressed in sheer so I'm sorry but I won't accept my muse role here.... hahahahahaha

@ Claire - the painting group happened by accident really. I was talking to customers and some of my staff and it kind of came out that I painted. Turns out there are tons of us who do. I suggested that maybe we do so together every 2 weeks and that was that! It really was that easy. I host it in my pubs function room and we are adding fellow geeks all the time. I play YouTube painting tutorials (or football games) on the TV. Share techniques, Painting surgery and basically talk about fantasy and sci-fi. It's brilliant! I'm concidereng adding gaming to the night as well but I'll see what the others think. Thanks for the vote for the diorama. The Black Sailors Kickstarter, Black Sails TV show and Black Flag video game (that's a lot of black!) have got me really got my creative juices flowing and I'm dying to do something big and piratey! I just hope I can finish it!

@ Lee - thanks dude. Painting to chill, Fallout 4 to unleash the fury. It's worked like a dream so far!

@ Maenas - spoil sport

The close-ups are great, we can see every bit of paint and where it has gone. Demon-boi there looks great.
