There is a place in RPG\'s for stuff like Arduim Grimoire. They add some nice elements to the game that you don\'t always get. Hope often do you see the archtype fighter character, studied to be a blacksmith, parents killed by goblinoids...?

@ NecroN How do you handle DC\'s and AC\'s with the reversed numbers?

I don\'t actually run 3rd ed so I would have too look at the system. There should be a pretty simple way. If nothing else just invert the players die rolls. So if they roll a 15 its a 5 etc.

That\'s why I enjoyed WHFRP a lot, because of the occupational stuff. Worked a treat.

If you liked the old system you will really enjoy the 2nd edition. They did a great job on the update.

Also the game has support from hell now. They are releasing something like at least 8 books a year. This year focuses on the Empire, next year focuses on Bretonia.

Some amazing stuff (though I am not the biggest fan of their marketing but I will save that for another time).

Well just a heads up on my cheating player, I think he knows that I am on to him and is not cheating nearly as much. :D He still occasionally picks up his dice but I have been noticing that he is not hitting on every attack, hearing every littl thing or spotting everything. It is making it a little more enjoyable for me and the other players at my table.

Have you tried flogging? Maybe a nice stick across the nuckles.

In the past I have just done little things to try and stop him from doing this, like not letting players pick up their dice immedietly after they roll them, but this does not seem to work. I have also given monsters grudges against his characters. I am at a loss, right now. It irritated me so much that I had to kill his character last session.

Whats worse is that he is a powergaming munchkin that also happens to be a rules laywer.

Plus all the other players know that he does this as well.

Just thought of another

I remember using this one back in my Windsor Gaming Society Days. The club was way to small to afford kicking out memebers in these days so we had to find methods other then direct confrontation to deal with cheaters.

This one works great especially if the player notices it and no actual words are spoken.

Fuge you rolls as a GM when dealing with this player.

Sure the player always spots everything, but then he always gets spotted too, sure ever roll is a crit but then every hit against them is too. This one works great.

You can go as far as using the ever popular, stare the player right in the eyes, drop the die, don\'t look at the die and say \"Nat 20, that\'s a crit\".

I like that one, it would surely piss him off. But he might get a clue. lol

Have you tried a dice cage/tumbler? You can get them in gambling supply shops. It\'s basically a wire cage shaped like an hour glass. Turn it over and the dice inside tumble about without any one actually touching them or being able to pick them up immediately.

I had a GM do that \"natrual twenty\" thing to me once. Really pissed me off. Thing was I never cheated. I actually rolled a natural crit. He just knew the NPC he liked so much would die if I ever actually landed a punch (a supers game) so he just never let me hit no matter what.:flame:
Of course, his NPC hit me every time, but I was super brick so he couldn\'t actually hurt me.
Never played under that GM again though.

I have a GM like that - sort of. The rules only apply to the PCs, not to his NPCs. Or at least, when he wants the NPC to escape and be available as a returning villain, the rules don\'t apply. It\'s very irritating.

He also never wants any PC to die, so he will bend the rules into a pretzel to keep PCs alive, no matter what. Sigh.

Make me sound like a bad guy.

Sure make me sound like a bad guy.

Okay this isn\'t something that I do often, unless running Paranoia.

There are two times I will use this technique. First being with a cheating player. I usually only game with good friends so it\'s usually doesn\'t piss anyone off, just gets the point accross.

The second is when the story would be better if a certain roll passes or fails. The whole point of roleplaying is to have fun and tell a group story. Sometimes the dice and rules can get in the way of that story so you fudge or ignore the dice at times. Usually I would just describe what happens and not use the dice at all. The only time I have to use the dice is when a certain player is playing, he insists on dice rolls being made for everything (some type of fetish I think). So that would be the player that I would use this on.

As for fudging to keep players alive. I will do this at times. Usually when it is my fault that they PCs are dying. Poor planning usually accounts for this. I work 6-7 days a week and only get to game 1 for 5 hours a week. This doesn\'t give me much prep time. Sometimes I will set up a scene and once the players get there it ends up I misjudged the difficulty of the scene. Made a mob too tough, or a trap too devious etc. This is when I will fudge in favour of a player.

I never fudge for a player if they are doing something dumb/out of character/against the other players. That is when you leave the dice where they lie and the players where they die.

@ Necron So are you saying that if your players declaried that they were jumping off a 200 foot cliff onto the back of a spiney backed dragon, you would let them?

Boy you are a killer DM! lol

If I was running Feng Shui I would.

Did you miss my last line?
\"I never fudge for a player if they are doing something dumb/out of character/against the other players. That is when you leave the dice where they lie and the players where they die. \"

Actually in this case I would use the ever popular GM scare tactic: \"Are you sure you want to do that?\"

That is the line that most players (I assume, maybe it\'s just mine) hear and quickly realize maybe they are missing something or being foolish.

Well yes in Feng Shui that would work or even in a super hero game, but not D&D.

Nope I got it I was just referencing a KODT strip. :D

Thats a tactic I use very seldom. I want my players to think for themselves.

Whats great though is when they still go ahead with what the stated and then get mad when something bad happens to them.

I LOVE using random chance. My players either love/hate it when I say \"what are the odds of THAT happening?\" and pick up my percentile dice.

Watch it, Drake!! :D

You ought to see our group cringe when Zora says \"What are the chances of that?\" and picks up his % dice. We all start diving for cover. lol
