I would rather have you as a GM. You Sound a lot fairere than some. A friend of mine in the US would make these PC killer dungeons and then brag about them at our local gaming store. The saddest part is people aplauded and urged hime on.

Sure make me sound like a bad guy.

Okay this isn\'t something that I do often, unless running Paranoia.

There are two times I will use this technique. First being with a cheating player. I usually only game with good friends so it\'s usually doesn\'t piss anyone off, just gets the point accross.

The second is when the story would be better if a certain roll passes or fails. The whole point of roleplaying is to have fun and tell a group story. Sometimes the dice and rules can get in the way of that story so you fudge or ignore the dice at times. Usually I would just describe what happens and not use the dice at all. The only time I have to use the dice is when a certain player is playing, he insists on dice rolls being made for everything (some type of fetish I think). So that would be the player that I would use this on.

As for fudging to keep players alive. I will do this at times. Usually when it is my fault that they PCs are dying. Poor planning usually accounts for this. I work 6-7 days a week and only get to game 1 for 5 hours a week. This doesn\'t give me much prep time. Sometimes I will set up a scene and once the players get there it ends up I misjudged the difficulty of the scene. Made a mob too tough, or a trap too devious etc. This is when I will fudge in favour of a player.

I never fudge for a player if they are doing something dumb/out of character/against the other players. That is when you leave the dice where they lie and the players where they die.

Thanks for the compliment.

I used to hate GMs like that. Back in the days when I gamed in a local club there was a DM that had kill marks on his DM screen. He also had a deceased stamp that he would hit your char. sheet with when you died so you couldn\'t use it in another DM\'s game.

Odd part is people flocked to his game and basically left the rest of us GMs hurting for players. I never understood that.

Hmmm must have missed the email that noted you responded, sorry for the delay.

I didn\'t think so.

I tried it once and hated it.

It was just too over the top. The party had a freaking Aircraft Carrier made of mythril with a landing strip for Griffons. There were a lot of younger kinds in the group and I think the GM played on the \'oh cool\' factor. I was supprised how many good players played in that game.

The way i found to do it is to get a whiteboard and put it in the middle of the table, which has an unobstructed view from everyone. the player who rolled it is not allowed to touch the dice after rolling until the results of his roll have been recorded.
Either that, or simply don\'t invite him to any games.
