If this was a contest, I might actually win it, based on what I\'m seeing... I\'ve met and rubbed elbows with a LOT of famous people, some locally famous, some quite big.

Locally famous types:
Kim Mitchell - Canadian Rock Icon - I used to live across the street from him, and played baseball with him and his band.

Jeff Healy - Canadian blues/rock guitarist - appeared in the dire movie Roadhouse.
He invited me to jam with his band, back when I was a drummer, but that never happened.

Alannah Myles - Canadian Singer \"Black Velvet\" is her best known song. I almost was the studio drummer for her second album. Someone she knew showed up, though, and she had him do it, instead.

Wild T, of Wild T and The Spirit: Was the host of a \'jam night\' that I used to regularly attend.

Bigger names:

Dan Akroyd - met him through a friend\'s father, who knew him well.

Phil Collins (jerk) - Met him thanks to won back-stage passes from a radio station.

Rush members - Geddy Lee and Neal Peart (Still have to meet Lifeson, someday).

Patrick Stewart - Met in the mall I used to work at. Twice. And he remembered my name, the second time! One of my favourite \'famous meeting\' stories.

Jimmy Doohan: Scotty from the original Trek... but almost everyone\'s met him, and had him buy them drinks.

I could go on and on, really, but if this is limited to \'famous people we hang out with\', there aren\'t any for me, really. Meetings, a few really good conversations, and a lot of (mostly) good memories.

to me, the most famous person that I met was my grandfather, who was on the team which built the first Electic Car, everyone else on the list might be more famous, but are they having a lasting effect to save the planet? ;)

But I went to school with the guys from Green Day. And had one of their mothers as my teacher.

Les Claypool from Primus lived on my street (back before he was making much money from music).

I often ran into the guys from Faith No More (and related side projects) at parties, and even had them crash on the floor of a friends house I was staying at one night.

past that its only been one time meetings and such.

Shawn, I think if I ever had a connection like that to Thom Waits I\'d NEVER let it go...he is about my favorite musician on this planet, ever....

I haven\'t got a clue who you are on about for a start:duh:

I once had a game of darts with Mike Oldfield however and I \'roadied\' for Dexys Midnight Runners, Kiss and Peter Gabriel. That just makes me an underpaid jerk however

*gibber* Mike Oldfield!!! Thats awesome!!! I\'d give my left eye for that.

My uncle used to Roadie for The Who, they taught him to play guitar, and supposedly I met them back when I was a toddler during rehearsal, though I have no memory.

@eric j - I wont run the guy\'s music into the ground, but I never really \'got\' it. Knida like Bob Dylan. Another one I just dont see what the big deal is. For that matter, what is up with Dead heads? Light country rock......I think I\'ll give up my job, take all my cloths off, get dreds and follow the band EVERYWHERE.....I just dont get that.

What do Dead heads say when they run out of drugs? \'Hey man, this music kinda sucks\'.lol

I got to meet Gary Gygax after the official release of D&D3, and I watched Extreme shoot one of thier very last music videos (Their road manager was a Brit too, and happened to stop by the place I worked, we got talking and he invited me to watch, he used to manage Taylor Dayne - remember her? lol)

I met Ruth Thomson (fantasy artist) at Gencon and I danced for Penn Gillette at a night club in Boston (Penn and Teller) and he\'s huuuuge in person. Teller isnt really that small after all. :D

If any of you are into the band Mountain, they just put out a DVD of a concert they played a few miles from here. There is a friend of mine in the front row holding up his cell phone (so his friend Steve in Alaska, who couldnt make the show, could hear some of it). Leslie West really lays into him. West got really crude and personal and it\'s all on the DVD. Kinda funny, kinda sad.

I used to work for a guy who\'s sister is married to the son of Harry Belafonte. She lives on Manhatten. Met her once, her comment to 9/11:

\"Now we have morning sun on our terrace.\"

Always look on the bright side...jeez!:p

Funny you should ask that now. I only found out a week ago a cousin of mine plays in the French movie \"Les Mauvais joueurs\". For those who\'ve seen it, she\'s the young (15) Chinese girl. Kind of a surprise since I only knew of her older sister being involved in cinema (studying to become a producer).

As to minis, well, I know a fair number of sculptors personally.

Well, lets see - I was in a bad made for TV move called \"An American Story\" and threated to butt-stroke (ie strike with the butt of the gun) the star Brad Johnson if he set me on fire with blanks.

On a happier note I took a class in college from Larry Hovis - Carter on Hogans Heros.

Right!

I was an extra in a remake of \'South Pacific\' while in Austalia, I met Glen Close and Harry Connick Jr (all the extras called him Mr Jr, oh how we laughed:)).

My Grandad went to school with Kenneth Williams.

My father got called sir by Prince Andrew, my dad was a higher rank than him (RAF) :D

AND Denis Skinner (MP, UK \'the beast of Bolsover\') told us to \'bugger off!\' his brother lived two doors down from my mum & dads house, we\'d just booted a football over their fence into a skinner family BBQ.

Scott/Spacemunkie: EVERYONE in Bradford knows most of New Model Army, I met bloody Justin in Morrisons Buying MILK!!!

Let\'s see:

I\'ve spent a day with Grumb and Red Dawn.

I\'ve had dinner TWICE with TAB and the rest of her clan.

I\'ve worked 2 LONG weekends with Cerridwyn1st.

My cousin is in Queensryche.

Met (but they wouldn\'t remember it):

I met Gary Gygax at a Dal-Con - I was taking a break between sessions and he sat down and chatted for about a half hour. (signed all my OE stuff too.)

Met Sam Lewis (FASA) at that same con. Got him to sign my homemade Wolf Clan jacket.

My wife had classes with Garth Brooks and we used to see him on Wednesday nights (open mike - play what you brung) for free.

I love those guys!!!
A good friend of mine had a cute sister named Eileen, and every time I saw her I would sing \"Cum on Eileen...\"; it would piss him off to no end. lol

Let\'s see... the only one I actually \"met\" was John Waite. I was a \"friend\" of a DJ at a local Radio Station, and he used to come to me for \"chemical entertainment\" (a looooong time ago in another life). He showed up in the W__B van at a club one night and asked me to get in the back; there was a guy sitting there I didn\'t recognize and my \"friend\" said \"don\'t YOU know WHO this IS? It\'s JOHN WAITE!\" I said, \"that\'s nice, can we hurry this up I have people waiting for me\". I had no idea who he was until watching MTV a couple of days later. Oh well. :D

My wife\'s best friend used to do hair extensions for Meatloaf\'s drummer.

I was working in the Carlisle Hotel in NYC and got to ride up in an employee elevator with Jack Nicholson\'s lunch.

I was stuck at a traffic light in Southhampton and Mariah carey was in the Mercedes next to me.

When I was little (1975) my sister brought me to the very first Star Trek convention in NYC. I was trying to find a bathroom and got lost riding the elevators. I was alone, and it stopped at the floor below the convention floor and in got the entire cast of Star trek minus Kirk and Spock. I remember staring at them dumbstruck, unable to speak. Nichelle Nichols smiled at me and said hello. I just stared with my jaw hanging open; they got out at the next floor and I stayed behind, still unable to move. Sucks, they were my idols and I couldn\'t even say hello back.

I was working on the computers at a restaurant while Ralph Machia was eating dinner. I got to watch him chew.

I saw Mick Foley (the wrestler Mankind) across the street from the same restaurant.

When I was a kid my neighbor\'s uncle was Vincent price, he came by one time for a Holiday but I didn\'t find out \'till afterward. :(

I had Joan jett standing about ten feet away from me during the Rocky Horror picture show that was revived several years back.

One of my customer\'s met Hillary clinton, another holds the patent for wireless networking, and a third was a professional hockey player on the Italian National League.

oh yeah... I had a conversation with a stripper who had just had sex with Kip Winger (small time 80\'s rock star). She seemed very excited about it...

And that about covers my brush with fame.

oh... and I know ME, and I\'m a legend in my own mind. lol

Airhead, you read that thread title wrong - it said \"famous\" not infamous! :p

@Naukhel - totally jealous that you met Jeff Healy and Neal P. and Geddy L. from Rush! We love Rush and Jeff Healy (watch \"Roadhouse\" just to see him play)! P.S. Grumb says, \"You win!\"

Also forgot - my mom went to school with Mrs. Elvis - Priscilla Presley. Thought of someone else too, but old-timers disease set in and now I can\'t remember who it was.

EDIT: My uncle met Penny Marshal (director and Laverne of Laverne & Shirley) when they were filming \"A League of Their Own.\" He\'s a state trooper and does security for a lot of people/events when they\'re in Indiana.

(He\'s the link to Larry Bird - worked the Colts/Celtics games and got to be friends with him. Him, my dad, and a bunch of trooper friends took Mr. Bird out on a lake in our boat, started drinking and they almost drove the damn boat to the bottom of the lake! We like to remind him of that fact when he goes into uppity-cop mode!)

I once saw the bloke who used to play Tosh in the Bill in the local butchers at the end of my road. He was probably buying a pie or something.

What have Tosh from the Bill and Justin Fashanu got in common?

They both died on a bender.
