You won\'t know until you take pics with it!
Some models are better than others, but just shoot a range of test shots on your tripod at different apertures and focal lengths. Check that it focuses on what you want it to focus on (might need to manually select the focus point here) and that your edges are sharp. You might get a little drop off in quality towards the edges, but you can occasionally get one side that appears worse than another if you get a bad copy.
Can\'t say I\'ve ever had any problems, but there seem to be plenty who do - with Canon as well as third party stuff.
Canon look as though they\'re going to start putting a fine lens adjustment setting in their bodies so you can fine-tune the body itself to each lens and save settings for up to 20 lenses. Only in the 1D at the moment, but I reckon it\'ll filter down to cheaper gear.
