You won\'t know until you take pics with it!

Some models are better than others, but just shoot a range of test shots on your tripod at different apertures and focal lengths. Check that it focuses on what you want it to focus on (might need to manually select the focus point here) and that your edges are sharp. You might get a little drop off in quality towards the edges, but you can occasionally get one side that appears worse than another if you get a bad copy.

Can\'t say I\'ve ever had any problems, but there seem to be plenty who do - with Canon as well as third party stuff.

Canon look as though they\'re going to start putting a fine lens adjustment setting in their bodies so you can fine-tune the body itself to each lens and save settings for up to 20 lenses. Only in the 1D at the moment, but I reckon it\'ll filter down to cheaper gear.

Well then, the camera had better arrive soon. There are some Lily Beetles in the garden which are staying still even when you get close. Obviously they\'re waiting to be photographed.

I tried photographing an angry spider the other day - Slater (woodlouse) Spider. Bright red with a peanut shaped bum - very attractive looking wee beastie. He would not stay still at all and got quite aggro when I tried to coax him into staying in one place!

I considered putting him in the fridge for 10 minutes to cool his heels, but I think that\'s going a bit far really.

Nope, but if it doesn\'t arrive this weekend I\'ll contact them and ask. If it\'s going to be much longer I think I\'ll cancel the order and get it from somewhere that has one in stock.

Aye, I learned my lesson...

I initially placed my order with Empire direct who lied and lied about delivery and tried to fob me off and not once called me back.

I contacted warehouse express last friday and took delivery yesterday after cancelling my empire direct order.

It was more expensive in the end but I have heard, since looking in to it more, many horror stories about empire direct and would urge anyone to avoid them like the plague.

But regarding my new camera - it\'s da bomb!

My order\'s with 7 day shop. They haven\'t lied or misguided me in any way. When I placed the order I knew they were out of stock but figured it wouldn\'t be too long. But my trigger finger is getting itchy.

I noticed yesterday that the tamron lens has a small scratch or speck of dust on the inside of the camera-end lens. That\'s going to have to be sent back. *sigh*.

EDIT: Phoned Warehouse Express about the Tamron lens. They\'re delivering a new one tomorrow and the courier will take the faulty one back.

I rather like most of those. Bit overcooked if you want \'proper\' natural history, but nicely done in a more pictorial sense.

I contacted 7 day shop and they informed me that Canon doesn\'t seem to be in a hurry to send out the body-only kits whereas they have sent more lens kits. As it\'s been 4 weeks tomorrow since I placed my order I have decided to cancel it and get it elswhere. I just hope there are some still in stock since I rang up to check at Warehouse Express.
