Work In Progress

If you do the zenithal priming carefully you can paint the mini (or at least some areas) by \'colouring\' areas with washes. That way the primer provides the basic shading and highlighting.

Another way of using zenithal priming is as a guide for where to put your highlights.

almost done large scale nurgle marine im gonna leave the pack off ive decided... pics asap... whats a good colour for a power sword and gun tho that goes well with green nurgly armour?

If you just washed over the primer wouldn\'t it look spotty? @Nelson, is there anything that can\'t be explaned by referencing it to the simpsons! A tutorial would be great, seeing as how your the one always preaching Zenithal Priming.

This one\'s nearly finished now. There\'s only some smaller details and the base left to paint.

@Wurzag
I\'m no expert on this priming technique. I\'ve only tried it once and then I used grey also. There were some spottiness from the white primer, but I smothed it out first by applying a white glaze before starting painting.

@Nelson - I forgot to thank you for keeping us updated with your wolfen. It`s a real pleasure to see steps to masterpiece.

@Joshua - I`ve just tried zenithal priming. I`ve used it because I thought about doing something different to break my painting inability. I`m not sure if it helps with shading directly, but it definitely helps to realize where to put highlights, how the light would fall on the mini.

@Ritual - as always your mini looks excellent :)

Thanks, everyone! It has been a bit of a struggle at times. The face and hands are very thin and wrinkly and it was difficult to get smooth blendings and pick out the details at the same time. I\'m quite pleased with the result, though, and I think his creepiness comes through. I love his stitched shut mouth and his collection of dead animals hanging from under his coat. :D

You got zenithal\'d!

Yarrrr....I might do a tutorial, who knows. We\'ll see if I start any minis soon that will work. I\'ll call my article \"zenithal\'d\". :D Yeah, there\'s not much to it, though. Ritual basically explained it all. Just prime black, then grey, or just straight to white. Then I just (as Ritual said, again) paint over it with a bit of thinned fortress grey. It might be a placebo, who knows, but I don\'t mind it being a placebo if it makes my painting go faster and smoother. ;) Basically, I don\'t have my paints as thin as washes, but I do have them thinner than normal. With three or so layers that don\'t have too much of a change in tone (relative to normal) I have the same effect as an hour of layering. :)

@Ritual, awesome mini. Your colours are as earthy and interesting as ever. That sickle hanging from his belt looks awesome, too.

Wow Ritual, that is nice! Great work!

I got the shaman/snake goddess done, posted it here:

I think I should have shaded the skin of the shaman a bit darker, but I am one of those painters that just screws things up if I go back and try to adjust anything after a figure is done, so it\'s on to the next one!

cool thread...

here\'s a black paladin that still has some way to go...

I need to paint in all of the filigree and add quite a few highlights etc... Oh! he\'ll prolly need some arms too :)

I love those black paladins! They are the best Acheron minis, IMO. I think you\'ve chosen a very fitting colour scheme. It looks lovely! I like your previous one (Kain, that is...) and this seems to become equally great! :)

I think the base colour was - German grey + cold grey + imperial blue. The highlights are cold grey + ghost grey and then ghost grey for the lightest (so far) ... I may add a tough of white too. The weathering is red leather + smoke. I can\'t remember what the gold base coat was... it was quite green when it first went on though :)

ok only the scythe and the head need to be done
so does anyone of you got any suggestions on how i should paint the helve ? its pretty flat so it would look awkward if just painted in one colour.

what i do like is the gown and the shield but what i dont like is the fur (again) and for some strange reason the boots and gloves are shiny even though i just primed them black and highlighted them with gws terracotta

if you have any suggestions how to improve this mini i would really appreciate them!
it is a lot better to know what to change now than it is after its varnished ;)
