Anders to back up Micks comment I recommend the Bretonian bust I have just come back from GWHQ with one and I am most impressed trouble is I shall have to hide it otherwise my other projects will get shelved. I have no will power.

Well here is my WIP for my first diorama - it has been dullcoted, but it didn\'t get in the creases - so they still look a bit shiny I\'m afraid

I\'m glad its gained some interest!

Yes, there is a sort of life and death theme, I\'m doing a macabre circus. The ring master will be the Rackahm bogeyman on his podium. Leaning on it will be the Hasslefree harem girl (with a zombie head in her lap if I can find one). Galloping around the outside will be the zombie horse with the gymnast doing the handstand!!

Never done a big base before, so have no idea where to start. Anyone have any ideas on making a circus ring?

Feather board and a compas (I forgot if it\'s the right word in English, the thing to draw circles) could do the trick. Then texture the center part with fine sand (or sticky tack, that\'s what I use for my tomb king army); you\'ll be able to put horse shoe tracks that way .

Absolutley Twisted. But the paintwork you\'re showing there is nice work.

As for Feather Board that might be Foam board that green stuff is refering to.

How big a circle are we talking here?

Circle wise I would guess at about 6-7\" diameter. I was going to use the bottom of a yoghurt pot to make the ringmasters podium (yes I did watch Blue Peter!). A bit of fine sand to cover the base and there ya go!

I probably screwed up on the translation. It\'s a thin sheet of cardboard, polystyrene, and another thin sheet of cardboard. Dragonsreach probably has it right . Anyways, it\'s easy to cut and nice and flat. Comes indifferent thicknesses too.

Sounds like poly board (or foam board). No idea where to get it from, but I\'m sure I can find some somewhere.

It\'s the \"board thing\" that is some times used in science fairs and presentations to post up papers and diagrams. I usually find some in my local arts and craft store.

Hey here\'s something that might be a better example, it\'s the stuff that Mike McVey used to make that Horus vs Emperor diorama. He made the walls and stairs out of it.

Yeah, poly board is the stuff used to mount posters. (I have a Wallace and Gromit poster mounted on it). Have to see wehre I can get some round here
