Work In Progress

Thanks for the advice, Brokenblade. I\'ll work at bringing the shades and highlights out some more. The little bugger\'s sword has snapped off at the hilt and it won\'t reglue, so I finally have a good excuse to buy a pin vise. Yay. Tidoco, your templar looks great so far; the greens especially are very vibrant. I might bring the blues out a little more with some brighter highlights, but that\'s me. His face is fantastic.

cloth drapery...

i was talking about sculpting cloth with a special effects guy and he said this
\"the best thing I can reccommend is to look at classic Greco-Roman sculptures or the sculptures of the Renaissance (esp. Michaelangelo, and Bernini).

No one beats their cloth draping...no one.\"

if that helps at all...

totally agreed :D

dynamic drapery is more about why creases occur rather than how they will look on a composition.

GD france is the first time that I\'ve been to Paris without going to the Louvre, the sculpture galleries are magnificent

The nearest I will get to a sculpture gallery is the local public toilets.

dynamic wrinkles and drapery by Burne Hogarth, bloody fantastic book, it explains why creases are there and how they form.
And it\'s simple enough for me to understand :D

Hogarth has a great book on \'dynamic figure drawing\' as well, That could be an invaluble resource for sculptors.

I\'ve got that book stashed away somewheres, back when I wanted to be a comic book artist...lol:rolleyes:

Tracy: It looks fine at the minute.
As you work on the rest of the figure you might find that the cloak could need additional highlights dependant on the how the front looks.
If you feel that the back does need extra highlights I\'d suggest limiting them to the \'Sharpest\' parts of the cloaks folds.

But don\'t forget that in essence this is the rear of the figure and 90% of people will concentrate on looking at the front. It\'s only the super critics here on CMON who examine the back in such detail. ;)

It\'s nice smooth transitions on it anyway.

@Tracy.....wait till you get more areas done and then you will have a better idea if its too dark/light next to the other colours.

Tracy - the ogre and kittens look brilliant, and the mage is coming along well too.

A bit more progress on Marneus Calgar for all of you, mostly just painted the face and details around it,

Brokenblade: You own me. He\'s looking fantastic. The facial detail is stunning. I can\'t wait to see this guy finished.

@TAB Studio: I think the robes as they sit now are great, you\'ve gotten wonderfully subtle and smooth transitions from light to dark here. Great work with the ogre, too.

Here is my attempt so far of cloning (yeah right lol ) Alexi_Z\'s Lysander following her step by step guide in the Darkson Designs book. I am taking my time as I am coming out of a case of painter\'s block. The gold is wierd; it is not yellowish at all, but hers is. Her recipe is snakebite leather plus chaos black, snakebite leather plus white, and finally white. Oh well.

I love brownish looking nmm gold, you don\'t want it looking too yellow otherwise it\'s just gonna look like yellow.. That\'s why I love Jen Haley\'s painting so much.. Anyway, its looking awsome.

here\'s a conversion I made. The base is done but my dad has my camera with him in peru. I don\'t know which color scheme to use other than the cloak being dark red.

inquisitorall0uq.jpg

It\'s based on a model here on cmon. please help with the scheme.
