Work In Progress

GREAT start. Kick the skull brightness up. Paint it white, then do a THIN wash of yellow, mix some yellow-green (heavy on the yellow) with white and do the shading on the skull with this. There should not be much difference (light and dark wise) on the skull.
Starting at the feet and working your way up put a thin wash of blue-black over the green. You want the existing green to show through. You just want it to be a bit darker and duller. As you work your way up do the washes thinner and start to drop the black out.
Keep posting WIP\'s.

repainted..

okey I started by glazing the freckles, I was then not satisfied with the skin tones on the cheek.. I added some red became dissatisfied with the relation to the skintones around the mouth.. so I ended up repainting most of the face! lol (I added more freckles too)

I was nervous that I might ruin the face and my heart sank a few times in the process But I\'m really happy the way it turned out.

first the change (no extreme makeover perhaps :))

and then in relation to the mini:
SorceressWIP7.jpg

so what do you say, any change for the better?
I like the way the mouth turned out.. she had missed a bit with her lipstick on the first one.. ;) Now I\'m off painting her hair..

@shawn r.l. thanks, that is what I needed is some direction on this. I will give that a try.

Should I leave that right wing/right side black? There are subtle shades of grey in it, but I want to convey that if it is not lit up by the green light, it is in complete shadow.

@Avelorn.......perfect mate.What I meant by mask is that up close it looked ok but from afar they looked joined together like a mask or deep shading.Your update from afar looks like just a slighty different shade of skin suggesting freckles,linked to a close up that shows they are.
Thats going to be a beautiful figure.

@Scott......paint it like it looks there for a great effect,though it will look like the lightsource is from outside the figure and not the swords.You will have to brighten the blades to make it look like its generated from them.

Klute: Thanks! :)

Spacemunkie: That concept looks great! when you start painting, be sure to make the highlights brighter the closer to the light source it is and also.. remember to mix the colour of the light with the colour you\'ve choosen as the minis \"real colour\" for any shades darker then the lightsource itself.

Ta!
It\'s black. All black. Too lazy to arse about and I figure that the light sourcing will be much more effective that way.

Was it you who did an OSL article on this mini Sven?

Avelorn

Sven Jonsson
nah.. I have yet to write an article about painting.. I however do writeups of most the
minis I do and techniques I try out. So if anyone wants an article of anything I do.. I could try writing one.

@ericvupes

Hold the mini so the skull is nearst your eye. Keeping the skull toward you turn the mini and tilt it - always keeping the skull closest to you. Looking past the skull you are seeing where the light will fall. If you cant see it, it isnt going to be lit.

@Scott....that looks perfect.
@Avelorn......how about articles on transparent clothing and another how you did that stunning face.One of the best Ive seen.

The addition over the freckles look like its added blusher and just blended the whole cheeks/freckles/eyes together perfectly.

@ Avelorn - Nice changes with the freckles. I\'ll also throw my vote in that the sheer fabric effect on the dress looks great. Makes me want to dunk the copy of the model I have and repaint her. :D

@ blackfly - I agree that black would look a little off with the relative brightness of the rest of it. Kinda looks like a modified yukata or something. Not sure about how much a blueish-gray would blend with the hair, but it\'s a risk. I tend to be kind of conservative in my colors, so I might look at a dark brown or something that\'s earthy but not too neutral.

@NSA & Equus

Both of your comments about the warmth of the colors and matching etc more or less got taken to heart.

Its a little more thematic than I\'d normally go in such a miniature, but I opted to do a russet color like the trim on his gi. So maybe he\'s only recently unemplyed, and still has a fine kit. . .
And was also fairly fashion concious. heh.

Thanks for the nudge . . . it was one of those moments that was making more of an obstacle of it self than was really justified. . .it just needed to be PAINTED. :p

Ok, so here is that Dragyri nearly completed, except for the ribbon and a few touch ups

Dragyri-WIP10.jpg

She is finished now and I\'m having a hell of a time on her base, I have NO idea how I managed to do the Dark Maiden base, this reflection keeps turning out looking fingerpainted :(

Here is a headshot, you can see that ribbon in her hair done

Dragyri-Face-2.jpg

Unfortunately it may be a while until she\'ll be posted, which is why I\'m putting her up here for everyone who helped with feedback and encouragement

thanks :)

edit @itchy green wyrm unless he is a good wiz and you are using him then silver IMHO
