hi guys this is my first post to this thread and would like some constructive feedback and advice on my WIP Ogres from GW

*Also Griffo i love that LoTR troll how did you do the skin? i\'ve always been trying to achieve that skin - even when i started my ogres - but could never perfect it.

TAB that gargoyle is fab, I see your becoming a bit of a Rackham nut.

Daz your Ogres are looking cool.

This is what I have been doing today, this is not going to go in my gallery but I like the mini and thought I\'d have a bash at it. I\'d forgotten how small LOTR minis are,

DenethorWIP.jpg

I\'ve actually gotten alot further on today and the mini is not far off done I just need to do it a little base and Bob\'s yer uncle.

Man, i wish i could paint like all of you guys. Everything\'s looking great and that rackham garguel is awesome TAB! Just make sure DM Of Doom doesn\'t get his hands on it and use it against you!lol

Well, here\'s my two feble attempts... first is me pretending i\'m Eric and doing some perspective work on a base with a baddie being summoned from heck.
RedWizardWIP2.jpg

Still needs a lot of work. Plan on lightening the monster up to orange>yellow>white and then paint the rest of the base, then the mini. Oh and when i take the real pictures i\'ll have to get the point of view right... seems it only works from one angle.

And the second mini is the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Korn leader/god type guy that i converted into a 1/2 Orc Barbarian. So from this
HalfOrc.jpg

to this
HalfOrcWIP3.jpg

i\'m happy with everything except the reds and the NMM.

So any help with either of these minis would be welcomed with many thank yous and a very happy young painter:)

Itchy keep your conversions coming man I love them,

Anyway got Denethor finished and in a day no less, as I mentioned this is a game piece and therefore no fancy base.

Hope you like him.

the monstrosity continues...

Here is my latest shot...doesn\'t seem like much compared to the previous shots, but trust me, quite a bit of work went into to this, plus some planning/re-design (due to some logistic errors I made in my planned design)...

This weekend done about 4 hours so far, hope to do 18 to 20 hours total work on it. Will prob be awake till 5 or 6 am today dealing with this damn thing!!!

Here are 2 shots, with the plasticard ( 1mm) armour on it...those are necklace chains holding the plating together. they aren\'t in final positions yet as some of the horns I need to put thru the armour and attach to the body are still drying (apoxysculpt). Once I will soon be estimating via pencil where I want the horns to go... They need to be placed correctly since I have plans for the 2 front (longer horns punching thru the armour)...plans other than just to make the back of the dino spikey.

DSC02250.jpg

And the other side. THe symbols you see on the lower plating is done via green/brown stuff. I will add more to the larger plates once the horns holes are made. I wanted to do freehand on it but sadly, in the theme ofthe lizardmen, they use stone/gold work instead of banners, etc. So I don\'t envision them with freehand stuff, other than blood markings, etc....so, the horns have something to do with my method of logically adding freehand to this dino :p (as it\'s a GD entry, i think it needs some freehand at least).

The platform will be painted like stone and i have put small cracks/chips in the plasticard... the main \"engine section\" which i posted about stone work in the forum is here. I am quite happy with the outcome, although pics make it look crappy :( :( :(

DSC02252.jpg

These will also be painted like stone but I still need to add a few chips to the sculpted runes on it...

Overall, have about another hour to 1.5 hours of work left for the platform/stonework.

If think I could finish the main model, other than the base, sometime mid coming week..wed or thurs. WHich means, if i do, friday I prime it...then start planning the massive scenic base...and saturday start painting...

Still so much left to do and just 5.5 weeks before I leave for england GD :( :(

Tidoco: Thank you, i like how they turn out too, just wish i could paint them 1/2 way decent:p

StarFyre: Man, at the rate you\'re going on that guy you\'ll be done LONG before your Games Day. No worries there, and your stone work\'s looking awesome... i\'d almost say all it\'d need is a few washes and i\'d be convinced it was real stone!

Lock your doors. Then men from the hospital are coming.lol

@Scott + Jim.......Ive seen a website where people with fetishes like that hang out.:D

Only a boot and some pipes left to do.

@Tim...love the skellington....that Denethor is one of the better LOTR sculpts, good likeness.Don\'t you think its nice just to blast something out now and again without all the bells and whistles.Ive got a few planned for that treatment.

Yes it was great just to sit down and go from A to B and saythat is it it is done. That\'s the great thing aboutgaming pieces it\'s all no frills action. Maximum result for as little effort as possible. :D

Well this is another WIP I\'ve got about 20 going on all at the same time.

This one is the General Veers rubber/plastic mini from the WOTC Rebel Storm range.

Stripped him down and started repainting him (only down face and cloth suit), any suggestions welcome.

What have you stripped the WOTC plastic with? I heard they were resistant to most stuff except a blow torch, or some leather restoration fluid! I know Dettol and Nail Varnish remover did nothing after a couple of days of soaking.

I used BOOTs nail varnish remover. Didn\'t even need a couple of minutes not alone days.

Drop one in a pot with the nail varnish remover and swirl it about, you\'ll hear it fizz. Take it out and wash with soapey water, dry it off, and do it again until all paint is off. I take it out and dry it because the rubber/plastic starts to go bendy if left to long, but doesn\'t melt.

I\'ve done a couple now this way with 100% success rate

I\'ll have to try a different nail varnish remover - mine definately didnt fizz!

here is just a quick picture of my latest WIP, after 2+ months off it was nice to pick up a brush again, so I figured I\'d challenge myself with a lot of white :D

pain & suffering (and learning a lot via mistakes) continued...

U know...i post these pics for some ideas (u all have given me quite a few ideas and lots of encouragement) and honestly, cause i feel depressed of this whole endeavour, it\'s nice to feel like i have people rooting for me with words to keep me going :( I hope no one copies my idea, steals it or anything :( :( :( I need all help i can get. (since most people don\'t post pics of their contest entries)

Someone said, even if I don\'t place for a trophy, people will talk about it....i think I will be quite sad if I don\'t, but oh well. :D :( :D :(

Here are latest shots as of 12:15 am mon morning (gotta go to bed since wakeup at 5:45 am for work)

So far, trophies/lizardmen warnings to intruders on the dino..beastmen skull, several piles of skulls onthe platform, archaon head, belakor head, an impaled skeletal torso, and to be added = more skulls, some bodies (skeletal most likely...easier), and a special....empire soldier :p (can b seen in background of a pic, heavily converted and still more to do).

One problem, no idea how to paint hte bottom due to the spikes on back..yet another logistical mistake i made :( :( :( :( :( :(

Painting this will be brutal as hell....may use soft foam, and let dino sit on the foam upside down so the spikes put holes in it,and don\'t snap...

Should be done by thursday, friday..primed friday night in garage (will move car to drive way of course :p )..then start the painting marathon for 4 weeks (including 1 week off work i am taking for this model) before my flight sept 22nd....should be able to pull off a crazy 150 hours in 4 weeks .... well, I *need* too..regardless of if i can or not. maybe call in sick...or dead to work? hehe

Please, suggestions on how to paint this...

ALso, i still have stuff to add..the armour plating from previous shots in this thread...have holesin it now, with apoxysculpt to make raised rings around them...rough, will add more like a maze on the plates, and then add cracks, etc and paint it all like stone i think....
