You are so cool I respect your efforts so much I wanted you to know that. Your first sculpt heck I do not even have the courage yet to pick up green stuff and I have Becca chiding me many know here how bad that can be. All the positive energy I can muster heads your way StarFyre. You have earned my respect from your diligence and talent. Keep going it is looking awesome, really awesome.

@ Sanjay

About the impaled head. You\'ll get a lot more points from the judges if you can have the horn coming out on the other side one way or another. Not sure if its really worth the effort on such a large model, but you posted the close up and I felt perhaps I\'d throw that in.

That all said though, that is one of the most amazing models I\'ve ever seen sculpted and I honestly cannot believe that its your first try. That said, I\'d rush to finish before the men in white jackets show up.

OMG!!! Thats frreaking awesome, love it. The engine bit looks spot on, sweet as.
I don\'t like the empire head on the horn much, but thats just a personal thing I have against heads on spikes.

Have you decided colours yet?

Catachan green is a great color for the flesh, with a brown or red/brown for the horns and scales.

Can\'t wait to see this finished.

I made a start on my Oz GD entries last night, in my greatest tradition, I am doing what was supposed to be last years Warhammer single entry this year (only got as far as undercoating it last year). I\'m also doing a undead skeleton on skeletal horse, which I guess will have to be a duel as I\'ve already got the entry for the single.

I have a heap of other ideas, including a zombie unit, but seriously doubt I\'ll have the time to do them, possibly do a LOTR mini coz they don\'t need converting at all. Annoyingly there is no more battle scene unless its got 9 models on it. I had wanted to do the bit where Sam charges up the stairs in Cirith Ungol entitled, \"This ones for me Gaffer\" or whatever it was he said, but that would only need 4 models. Oh well.

Starfyre, iI see you\'ve done a lovely job on your cracks in your stone, but this handy tool will do wonders for cracks and splits. It\'s a linoleum cutter for artist. i picked one up from a Hobby Lobby. It makes the job alot easier. I\'ve used it to create some cracks on my Fex below.

What do you guys think about this Fex conversion. I\'ll get to painting sometime next week.

Hi all,

EricJ - that looks really cool...does look like lots of blue, but after staring at it for a bit, it looks really nice. :) Maybe a tint of more white to subdue it more? then again, what do i know :D

Talion - I like the clothes...but reminds me of a nazi soldier clothing for some reason...

Mordred - OMG...u got him looking like he has a rough shaven face..that is soooo cool!!!!

Iplay - awesome carnifex. i need that miniature...trying to find a cheap one on ebay...have ideas for what I want to do to it already :D I will look into that tool. I used an exacto knife after letting the apoxysculpt dry...took about 2 to 3 hours to get it how i wanted it (including sanding time prior to carving). The effect is nice on the carni\'s shell. What base is that? did it come with that?

@FredrickvonCarstein -- For the archaon and be\'lakor heads, i did drill thru and put the horns jutting right thru a bit. Was thinking of the human head in the front as sort of a saurus just sticking it on the spike so it wouldn\'t be thru, but I can understand that. when i woke up, and read this before work, i pulled off the head :D I may take off that front top horn completely actually. Not sure. I want to put headgear on the dino, but having issues designing it. Also waiting for a bit order to arrive :(

Klute - y u no like heads on spikes? :D When looking at the lizardmen codex, a slann pic (cool one) has skulls impaled on the spikes, and the slann models have small skulls on it as well. Kroq Gar has heads/skulls hanging as trophies, so I figured it fits the theme of the lizardmen. is there a major problem I should be aware of?

As for painting it...no idea yet :( I wanted to do various greens, browns....but that is the colour for the one in the Lustria Supplement, so don\'t want to have it the same....not sure at all..although still not sure HOW to physically paint it due to the size and..uhm..the stuff on the back.

@Mordred
This is very good! The face is simply great! I also like the cloak with the freehand on the inside. The shirt on the shoulder on the front pic looks a bit messy. There seem to be a few folds where the ridges of the folds aren\'t highlighted. Other than that, I think it looks spot on! You\'ll have a pretty impressive Mordheim warband when you\'re done!

@ritual : I see what mean about the shirt, I\'ll clean that up. thx ! this is the last addition to the band, so it will be 6 strong. I will post pics of them all together when I have finished the show-base.

Ok this is General Veers

Virtually completed. Happy with the result so far considering the mini.

I\'ve kept the colours to match the films rather than grey like the toys seem to do them.

Need advice on the boots and gloves, they would be high ploished leather in reality. So don\'t know whether to highlight them, or just give them a coat of gloss varnish and let natural light highlight them.

Any suggestions on any of the mini welcome.

The Slaughterman and Mini-Me

This is a PBM character i play nicknamed the slaughterman (he\'s the kind of good doctor the baddie wheels in with a tray of pointy things whenhe wants the hero to talk! - think Avon from blakes seven crossed with steerpike from Ghormenghast meets Lord venturi from Ank Morpork with a large slice of Ceiser Sosay (spelling?) from the usual suspects.)

Anyway this started out life as a Rhackham Griffons Darkness Hunter Like this. (but without the paint obviously!)

GRGM03copie.jpg

Then with much filing to get all the stuff hanging on his belt off (am i the only person who files detail OFF rhakham sculps?) and then some green stuff to give him sleeves on his coat and trousers instead of girlie thigh high boots. Cut off the weapons and replace with a canister of acid and his walking stick and hey presto...

I\'m pretty pleased with this as only my third mini and CMON offering after being away from paint and gaming for 18 years or so!.

My first attempt at blending too.

So what do you all think so far?

And the big question... what colour do i do the hat. I want to keep the whole thing down beat and a bit grimy (the coat is supposed to look like a cross between a WW2 german great coat and a dirty old man\'s flasher mac). I dont want to make the hat match the coat as that\'ll look very odd, but i also don\'t want the colour to be too prominant.

Depending on how brave i feel, i\'m thinking of adding some freehand to the inside of the cloak... any tips/suggestions . NEVER done freehand before... i was thinking a simple border or something?

The Mini - me figure is a fire familiar again from rhakam... painted to match the main figure. i\'m looking forward to doing the flame (the proper way) - the RPG character has the special ability \"Spit Napalm\" (not my idea hones so i was made up when i found this figure.

err right thast enough prattling on from me - i\'d really love to know what the more experienced painters here have to say about my meagre offerings - you guys are such and inspiration!

Regards

Brandlin

PS not sure whats going on with the pic resolution, its nice and sharp here, but when i post it it pixelates... hmmm

@Sanjay......if you want to do heads on spikes then do it mate :D
If the backround suggests it then I would go for it too though maybe heads threaded on chains hanging from the body.
Personall preference says I dont like the heads stuck on the horns thats all.
I say do what you think the judges will like most. ;)

nah

I don\'t \'care\' what judges think other than obvious errors on my part.

I am trying to make this how I envision it, and hopefully it will do well :(

Tab where the hell did you get that, you are going to cost me a fortune :D Is it another of Taban\'s?

Part agree with the blonde hair but part of me says no, she is very pale skinned so I would go for a mousy blonde or go the other extreme and give her white hair.
Reasoning for white hair you ask well there is a Welsh name for a girl/lady of Rhianwen which translated means white made when I saw this I immediately thought of this pale skin white/platinum blonde.

Martyn :D

M
@TAB - I`d leave the hair white or paint them some reddish tone. Red would contrast nicely with green eyes, but would require IMHO to make the armour in some kind of dark tone making the whole model look a bit... \"evil\" :D .
on the other hand white-haired with the rest left rather pale would make it look \"angelic\".

TAB that is absolutely great skin tone.
As she\'s a \"Night Elf\" I\'d be tempted to use cool colours for the tonalities so I would be suggesting Pale hair with shadows washed into it of a Blue/Purple tonality.

@WarGriffon: Yep it\'s a really beautiful figurine Bust. Managed to track an ebay auction of her. It\'s all TAB\'s fault she showed me the picture and I got the \"Ooooooh Pretty\" syndrome and another toy was mine. :D
