Wow I go away for a week and find all tihs cool stuff going on.
this is my current WIP, boromir Captain of Gondor. The mini itself is now done and I have just started the base which is going to be a small diorama.
I know that LOTR are not to everyones taste but I like them.

Ok, this is my first post here, and especially wierd to post in the WIP thread among so many awsome painters - my work is awful by comparison. Just thought I would see what people thought of what I had done so far - the face and NMM chainmail of Denethor of Gondor (yes its lotr again, but nevermind). The eyes are too bg atm, as I found out from the pic (IRL they look OK) but going to sort them out soon,

that denethor actually looks very good! the eyes arent too bad, i like them. skintone looks great, and chainmail too. keep up the good work, i look foreward to seeing the finished piece.

Well, my buddy who plays the 1/2 Orc was over at my house, saw his mini on my shelf (table\'s the workbench... i have to move EVERYTHING every time i want to paint/sculpt/mod anything ) and said he loves it as is. So i\'ll snap up and post that one soon. So i\'ve gone back to my EricJ-ish Red Wizard mini.
Primeval - Oh my... she\'s... she\'s something else! Coming along nicely and the skulls in particular look awesome.
Ticodo - Like the mini and paint job. Is it LOTR? Looks like a character right out of the movie!
And just to make g_k fell better, here\'s the one i\'m working on now. (your mini looks great BTW... especially for being a WIP and your first mini here... only place to go is up)
The only thing 3D on the base is the monster\'s head and it\'s hands. Everything else is prespective freehand. What do you guys think???

Wow, you guys make it harder for someone like me (who used to do LARGE models) extremly nervous on even buying the mini\'s, I had a plan all worked out...and BAM! I see these...wow...Does anyone have suggestions to a newcomer (Im starting by painting a friends Space marines...color schemes please, also...any reccomendations for a low (40-50) budget paint?

cheap paints.... reaper\'s pretty good i get mine fo $2.50 a pot (instead of gws 5$ a pot) its cheaper and betteras for not wanting to post feel free dont let us stop you. i know ive been in your position a few times! and stil lget in that postition. i feel as tho im not worthy to post with \"the masters\" but hey i do it eny way as for paint schemes.... choose what ever YOU want.. after all you are the one painting them... i find if the paint scheme ive chosen doesnt interest me as much i wont do as good a job... find a scheme you like and would be willing to paint 500 times as is the case with armies lol

right now, i am going crazy..being trying to use \"vincent hudon\'s coloured water technique\" to get a nice shade/blend on the curved stonework (in previous pics in this thread), and i\'ve been trying for 3 hours and i can\'t do it..restarted over several times now...feel so depressed, like i want to cry...i\'ve done it before but can\'t seem to get it now. maybe i\'m to anxious and nervous...so it\'s making me rush..no idea.
for budget paints...hmm...for decent works, some sites like warstore and even ebay u can get a good deal on the start vallejo sets.
i suggest getting 1 or 2 bottles of craft paints from michaels (for painting base coats on bases, or rocks, sand..stuff like that). Then a few GW bottlesof what u would need, and then some vallejos (but from ebay, etc of course).
then get a few brushes (but take care of them like u can\'t believe!!!!).

StarFyre - i\'d say, put the paints down for a night, collect yourself and tackle it with a clear head the next day. i\'m surprized you\'re not burnt out... i know i would be in your shoes!
Cheap paint... you mean, there\'s more to minis than Delta Ceramcoat? Seriously... that\'s what i use. Thin it down with water and blending medium and i can\'t tell a difference (but then again, look at my ranking... i\'m a long shot from being a pro)

question....
Should I make my curved stone work, look like basic stone (ie. light all over, general hilites), and then use black glazes/washes to try and add shadows to it?
or do the \'shades\' for where the light is coming from and where it\'s dark, and then later dry brush on top of that to lighten areas?

Imho Starfrye the first option is a better choice me thinks
StarFyre: Have you decided on a color scheme for the rest of it. The stone work, should probably be the first one you said.
And thanks to all of you, its good to know, that I can post pictures without fear of be flammed. My friend decided on a Gold/White color scheme, but the nearest stuff won\'t be until early september, as I am recovering still.
