i think you should enter it into gd. if only there had still been inquisitor scale, since thise is much better than the bronze winner last year.

keep it up!
:D

Silly question, but what purple? Is my monitor badly calibrated? I see black and red!

the \'black\' is shadow grey with black the freehand is done with very watered down black paint. almost as runny as an ink. then a mix of shadow grey and space wolf grey is painted to emphasise the divisions. might put it into GD for a laugh, but there are a few imperfections that judges would pick up on, and it\'s a warm up mini too. well who knows?

btw i use a brush with very long hairs to do the freehand stuff (almost like one for painting nails) so its almost like doing calligraphy.

:wow: That\'s crazy. Probably only good to look at from one point of view thought huh? But crazy nun the less. Great job! Super smooth and very clean.

Not a great pic, but the frost giant is done except for his skin. The beard looks better in person, but I may need to go back and do a dark wash to give it more detail. Now to get to work on the Conan figure and put it all together...

Could you share your skin recipe? It looks great and (against my better judgement) I have decided to do one mini with flesh for GD this year. I suck at flesh, so could do with all the help I can get...

@Josh.......Hi nice to see you. That bottle looks great though I would suggest the top \"face\" of the liquid should be slightly darker than the front edge to give more illusion to the depth.

Heres Hasslefree\'s Issabelle nearly done.

all righty then!

base of elf flesh over white undercoat. shade with dwarf flesh and elf flesh mix, then next shading is dwarf flesh in a zenithal lighting stylee. then dwarf flesh + dark flesh to do the eye sockets and outlining. then dark flesh + black to out line any area that will contact another colour. them use elf flesh + white to highlight the brows, tip of nose, cheek bones and make a second layer witha tad more white in the mix. then glaze it back with very watery purple ink and re hightlight with the elf flesh + white combo

Its been a while since I posted any \"work\" in the forums so figured I\'d give it a go.

You\'ll have to forgive me for the lighting, no matter which lgiht within my house I use they all come out too yellowy and dark, and this was the best I could manage (combination overcast window light and halogen light from the other side).

This is probably going to be my first completed Rackham mini (I have another which I started, but didn\'t like comepletely and its collecting dust :( ). Its also my first attempt at OSL. Probably shouldn\'t have tried something so advanced considering my skill level, but for a first try, I\'m reasonably pleased.

Another thing I tried, which I\'m really liking the effect of, was that for all areas of the machine (asides from metal) I started with a darkeer base and highlighted up to codex grey, which is giving it a really creepy look which I\'m liking ot this point.

The wood still needs a layer or two of highlights and then on to the metals (oh joy!)

Anyways, enough rambling, onto the pictures, and sorry again about the lighting.

Edit: Managed to shoot a picture by overcast light only (it was awkward) so I updated the main pic. Still crappy, but not as bad.

Edit Edit: Ooh, I\'m finally starting to figure out how the hell the image enhancing stuff on my cheap Photoshop imitation works

klute...

Called airport and canada customs...they said it\'s just up to the airline...and airport security...so i\'m on my own basically. Can\'t have it predeclared, etc.

right now, i am struggling..i\'ve painted all the stone stuff on it (will touch up a bit later). trying to do the horns now and spikes/claws. not going well at all..redone them 3 times in past 3 nights. Re-basecoated over them black last night. Can\'t make them look smooth in transition so redoing them. 3 weeks before trip...also stuff for base should be arriving soon.

150 to 175 hours most likely, estimated, in 3 weeks...not sure if that included the remaining design/construction for the base. This will be ugly september...

@Sanjay.......what made me mention this was a discussion at 1listsculpt I think where wax5\'s and other sculpting tools were confiscated.
It was mainly the horns on your job that struck me as \"weapons\".I would hate you to have it taken at customs though I think you would be OK.
I think you should take lots of info and pics of minis etc with you along with info for Gamesday.
Im sure it would be OK.

I\'d deepen the shadows on the red cloak a bit using a deep dark brown with a reddish tone. The metal is difficult to comment on because of the harsh light and the fact that lots of surrounding details are still unpainted. They will most likely look a lot better with softer lighting and when surrounding areas are painted or at least base coated. Be sure to show your progress! :)

Ah yes customs and security searches where they dust you down for explosives because you have toy soldiers in your bag - happened to me at Cardiff Airport caused a real stir because I had driven home and then straight to the airport having spent half the day on the live firing rangeslol I thought the silly old fool was going to have kittens he wouldn\'t believe I was forces even when I produced ID it took the police one look to clear me but the old fart wasn\'t happy :D

Then after they have taken out anything that might be used as a weapon in your hand luggage they let you on the plane only to feed you when you get airborn and give you plastic knives and forks lol There is probably logic there somewhere but damned if I know where :D

Sorry for the hi-jacking of the thread you can have it back now :D

Finally back on painting

After beeing away for half a year because of my exams and building of my buisness,
Im happy to present two near finished minis.

@ Sanjay: I bow down for your \"positive madness\" you put into that breathtaking project and hope you can finish it befor the GD UK.

@ Joshua: The water(?) effect on the bottle looks fantastic, I would keep the bottle like that, looks real to me. Just me.

This one needs some cleanups and the base needs some more shading I guess.
Its my second try at gold and steel nmm, so please let me know what I should change/keep etc.

So heres the pics
Pilzenbhir (Rackham) :

Here is a bigger pic

On this one Im unsure about the skintones and the highlights of the armour, should I make them a littler lighter? Oh and please let me know what you think about the glowing eyes, I think I overdone them a bit?!

Tracy, She is looking beautiful, I love the face and hair and the gold trimming on the armour looks good as well. Seems to be something missing on the grey of the actual armour though, as for the feathers well she is a night elf you could try some blues, although looking at the feathers on my one (she arrived yesterday:D ) I think you might have to paint a lot of the detail in by hand.:D
