I used to work as a baggage smasher (note the use of \'smasher\') when I was going through school. Believe me, if you want it to get there in one piece, you will take it on carry on.
Your bag will be thrown, tossed, ejected, bounced off walls/bulkheads/belts, kicked, stomped, possibly searched, and overall mistreated in a fashion that is likely to have you crying at the end of the day.
Ever been in an L10-11 or a DC-10 and finding that last package just stuffed in a container and the belt has already moved away .. \'Hey Earl .. catch!\' .... bag ejected from plane at high speed to bounce off pavement and under moving tug going the other direction.
Seen it happen.

What did you build to put your minis into your luggage?
If i could find a box that won\'t compress from weight, then i would love to put it into my baggage instead of carrying it in a cardboard box in my hands on the flight.

Have you ever seen bagage handlers at work? My advice would be to take it as carry on. You don\'t want something you\'ve put so much work into damaged when your luggage is thown about.
