Works in Progress IV

Demon Hunter

My new WIP, a Crimson Fist Master:) Basically Lysander with a blue paintjob:p Need do rehighlight the blue armour, because the last glaze made it a bit washed-out. I\'m very happy with the reds;)

Thx for feedback :) Talonicus-wonderful! Aurelian - looks awesome, welcome to the forums. Ian- I agree that perhaps your sculpting could be smoother, but Gollum is hard to fault :) I agree about the definition on the shield- originally I wanted to paint a black outline, but I wanted to keep the paint very thin, so now to go round with black might spoil my dragon :~( I have added more purple into the wine too, I agree that was too red! I have now begun the ogre, pics coming soon!

Happy painting

it seems everyone is doing Crimson Fists these days...oh well

@ demon hunter i think the red is too bright in some spots, even though the cape looks great, i personally think its too bright

the gloves the way its highlighted kinda looks odd, its subtle then all of a sudden gets red hot!

i always see crimson being a darker red with very little blood red used in the highlight, it keeps the models looking darker and lets the blue stand out more while not overpowering it

In my opinion the red cloak of Lysander looks good, but you should try to use more layers to get better results and a\"smooth\"blending.

cheers Aurelian

Just a quck update on another miniature that I am working on.... I am painting over an old paintjob of this miniature. All that I have worked on so far is the weapon and the armor.

EPS - Your Khorne knights are brilliant, very menacing! The Dark Eldar chick is looking good so far too.

Talonicus - Yes the photo was a bit dark, but it was the paintjob also, ive just richened the red tones with some glazes.
Your Chaplain is crazy - The nmm Armour is out of this world. Are you going to add some script to the scrolls? i think that would really finish them off.

Tomaz - I don\'t really know what the warjacks look likeunconverted, but the pose definately looks good on the first one.

Demon hunter - The cloack is great, i agree more highlights to the blue would really help.

Aurelian - Looking good, I think you could improve it moreso by picking out some of the highpoints of the armour, the cloth looks great!.

Mickc22 - Looking pretty neat so far i have to say.

Recoil889 - Nice conversion work, Very Orky indeed.

Starks 333 - For a first try at nmm thats bloody good, you seem to have the science of it right (where the light hits etc) to improve next time maybe you could work on getting the blends ultra smooth, smoothness of nmm is key if you want it to look as realistic as possible.

Now for my most recent update, more work on the details of the Techmarine :

Thanks!...ya ive been kinda lazy with the blending, and i havent found a solid way to do it better yet, i have issues with my lamp being too hot and drying my paint!

i was wondering what wet pallettes are for

at first when i was finished i didnt think it was as gold looking as i wanted, but a day later and it looks twice as good

now to your model :)

i can clearly see how smooth blending makes your NMM silver look simply beautiful, i havent dabbled enough to learn how to mix in other colours to get ecrtain effects (but what can i say this is only my...5th or 6th model ive actually tried to blend on!)

Hey dont get me wrong, the blending isn\'t bad at all, but could be even better if you put your mind to it that would raise it from 6.5 - 7 cmon standard to atleast a solid 8 standard.

I don\'t use a wet palate, but i think it would help you with the lamp situation, as regards blending, i can see you also have the technique right, and you dont neccessarily have to do anything different except at more tones into the highlights, so in an extremely simplified example instead of watering down skull white and using it to highlight black, you water down codex grey and highlight and then water down skull white and highlight (creating on a verrrryyyy basic level, a smoother gradient), i think by adding less of your highlighting colour to the mix in the future bit by bit, will help you get the smoother blends.

unfortunately this is more time consuming, as you may have guessed, but its worth it in the long run.

@BB- Thanks for the compliments. The red on your SM is looking much better imho. The blue seems to be lacking though.

@Starks- NMM really starts to come around when you start adding the extreme whites into it. So don\'t give up on it until you\'ve gotten to that stage. So far it\'s looking pretty good. Just keep layering up that color and try to keep your paints thin.

Here\'s a bit more progress on Lelith Hesperax. I decided to get rid of most of the skin look and instead I am going with a skin tight suit. I am also going to try to stick to a limited pallete on this one. Since that has been a recent fad of mine.
-Chaos Black
-Skull White
-Ultramarine Blue
-Dark Flesh

... and possibly Cobra Leather if I feel it is necessary for the gold look. That is assuming I decide to keep the gold from the previous paintjob.

@ EP my brightest highlight is bleached bone, my camera didnt show it as well because the light above it is yellowy, so its a bit brighter in person

its kinda weird, my gold looks so different from everyone elses gold ive seen, yet it looks gold, i guess more of a painted gold than real gold....probably just my style?

and to me, your gold looks good but your silver is looking pasty kinda, or strandy, maybe even a bit too blue(but of course im the inexperienced NMMer) :D

@BB the main reason i avoid doing 8 gazillion shades is because of this silly lamp drying it up so fast...so maybe i could get a new lamp, or get the wet pallette made, and that may make everything that much prettier!

and time you say? feel free to guess how long this took me:

@Starks- I am not really shooting for silver per say... It is more like I am painting blue metallics in the NMM style. Also, only the gold on the hil of the sword is done, so I hope you are referring to that...

@Everybody- I decided that going with gold on this figure\'s armor was simply too strong of a contrast for the armor and leather style...

Mountaineater irongut

Hi everybody, lovely models you got going there :)

You might remember a few pages back I posted a giant photomontage of my irongut WIP. Now, the paint job is almost done (not the finished product, not quite a WIP :]) I won\'t post the photos directly here as they are so damn huge, but please have a look and leave a comment!

Thank you, happy painting :flip:

Thank you very much for your kind words BB :)

Your techmarine is looking fantastic, the auspex is worth the time! Lighter red is looking great, your NMM is fantastic... truly a work of art, I can\'t wait to see it finished :wow: as for my ogre army... as I don\'t game, I collect figures more on the basis of \'coolminiornot?\' lol than whether they fight well or anything. I solely collected lizardmen for a while, now I have a box of ironguts and a few tau. I am certainly hoping to complete the ironguts (a great box set), possibly a different conversion for each. I will buy some other bodies off my friend, as with the parts in the box set there is potential for about 10 ogres to be built, but there are only 4 bodies :( keep up the good work!

happy painting :flip:

Some really great stuff guys.
@ EPS: Lelith is looking fantastic.
@ Ogrebane: Your army is amazing. If I had the money and time I would fly down there just to see them in person. Great job.
@Russian Dragon: I really like what you\'ve done with your norse king, the only thing I\'m not sure about is the blond hair, but it makes sense if he\'s norse... Great job otherwise, keep up the good work.
@Marmoset: I love the ogre, great job. The icon looks awesome. :D

Got a bunch of pics finally. I\'ve got a lot of projects going right now. WOH waywatchers, an Orc (also for WOH), two competion entries, and my empire army (no pics because they\'re just table top and I\'m not putting alot of effort in). So I\'m just gonna post these up here and you can all have a look-see and let me know what you think.

Waywatchers:

Orc (first time using retarder and blending):

Emperor\'s Champion (fun conversion, will be a competition entry):

And finally my Wight Lord (another conversion, will be a competition entry and battle standard bearer in a vampire count army if I ever get around to buy/painting it):

WightBarding1.jpg

The barding was just a test from my first mold, I\'m working on a new mold that is a bit larger, and I\'m hoping it\'ll come out better.

Well thats all for me.

Happy Painting!
