Tony I love the Nefarious Clone and it looks like this is going to be another of your masterpieces.

HateTheState I have Tanath and he is a difficult one, yours is looking superb, I particularly like the colour transition on the cloak.

Well this is my latest and it is yet another LOTR mini, this time it is Gamling captain of the Rohan Royal Guard. The mini is practically done baring the base and I am fairly pleased with it, I tried to do some freehand on the cloak aswould have been there on the movie character but it just kept going wrong and so I opted to leave the cloak plain.

And a close up of the face.

Tony- I love that green on the leg!

Well, its been a while since the last shot, but I finally got her photographed now that she\'s done. I tried about a billion different ways to get long grass to look windblown, but I wasn\'t able to get it to look like a good match to the movement in her hair and scarf.

So I went for short grass, and blew it all in the same direction.

Thanks for all your suggestions on her.

You can vote or comment on her here

Vince, I really like the smoke particularly. I\'m not often a fan of modelled flames, smoke, etc, but this looks great. I can\'t help also seeing it in a cartoony way, that he\'s really pissed off. . .it gives him presance. I don\'t mean that as a slight at all, I think it works well both as boilers going as well as. .. . getting his Fight all warmed up. :)

The only thing I think I might add is maybe some black, smoke, or tinbitz thin wash on the armour plates. I like the color a lot, very steam punk, I just think they might be nice with even a slight bit of grime, or age added to them. ..

@vincegamer:
I understand the need for feedback when you\'re this close to finished - so I won\'t let you go unanswered.

I think the piece, especially the highlighting, is fantastic. It always makes me happy to see other people using real metallics.

The smoke is well done and doesn\'t look as foamy as, well, foam can get.

For overall detail I\'d recommend a bit more grime, as Blackfly suggests, especially around the joints. Even on a freshly polished frame you\'ll have oil and grease where things create friction. Consider a little black and/or very dark brown around more of the smoke stacks as well -- since that stuff looks pretty nasty it\'ll leave a mark on the upper 1/3 of those stacks. Just take a peek at a big rig next time you\'re out.

Just for kicks, if you\'re crazy, have some fun and add some brocade touches to the pants. A little bit of swirly detail will take this from a \"wow\" to a \"you crazy son-of-a...\" model in a hurry.

Thanks for posting.

@HatetheState- Very interesting use of glaze work on the skin. I am not much of one to complicate things with color that much. The skin is looking fantastic.

@Tony Manero- I actually liked the Centurus Clone that you recently finished more than I am liking this piece. However your work is still very impressive as always.

@Tidoco- Very solid work. Painting LotR miniatures is definitely more of a task than it initially seems. I know that I definitely have more respect for well painted LotR miniatures now that I have attempted to paint a couple.

@Vincegamer- I really like the smoke effect. The metallics need some weathering though. They seem a bit overpowering right now.

OK, sorry this is a bit late! lol I think you have done an excellent job on this mini. I am most impressed with the sculpted weapon, how the hell did you do that?! :wow: The composition is great, and the painting has a cool dark feel to it, very grimy and real. That\'s exactly what you want for Nurgle. The broken horn on his helmet is a very nice touch. I notice just two things: I think you need to add one more highlight and lowlight stage to the whole model, adding more depth to his obesity. And also I think you need to brighten up some of the details (such as his eyes especially), to bring the model together and tidy him up. Apart from those small points, you have an awesome model there! When you\'ve finished with this, make sure you post it including a picture to show all the sculpting you did. I think you\'ll be looking at 7.5+ no problem. A solid 8 for me :D Well done!

Happy painting

@Blackfly: :eek: Impressive....!

I didn\'t, actually. I assume you\'re talking about the little chain blade attached to the bolt pistol. This was actually sprue standard with the 1980s Space Marines... which I have sitting around in my bits box.

Thanks for the feedback on the skin. I\'m wondering if it\'s not my camera. I actually have a good deal of browns inked and painted in to the folds of the fat - with additional chestnut and yellow washes over it all to lend an unhealthy palour. I\'ll try to get a better shot and see if the advice still holds.

Thanks again.

Emperor\'s Children - Dread Conversion

I know, I know... I have the Penitent Engine conversion in progress as well. I\'m actually holding all of my freehand sculpting for a single sitting -- so that one and this should hit at the same time.

Obviously just started on this one. I haven\'t touched anything except the claw arm and the body.

I\'ll be sculpting a fang filled mouth at the bend in the body - between the two hands, of course. I will also be adding weld marks (AKA hot needle pokes) on the rough claw to make it seem like more of a slap shod conversion.

As always, feedback is greatly appreciated.

A quick update on my Sophie progress. I started working on the breast plate... However the direction of lightsource that I have chosen for this piece is making painting the breast plate rather difficult.

@EP
The face looks good but the rest of the skin looks a bit flat. It probably looks amazing IRL but on the computer you need make the highlights really extreme. Almost to white.

@angus- The face is the only part of the skin that is actually finished. The only finished parts of the model are the hat and face. The rest of it is still WIP stuff.

@ HatetheState: I have to be honest as although the paintwork on the base is very well done and impressive, it\'s actually drawing attention away from the mini itself. If your intention is to enter this into competition it would distract the judges and not really benefit the mini.

This is the first pic I\'ve posted on here. It\'s taken me a while to get everything together (ie Digi Cam, Adobe etc).

Its the Goblin War Giant and I\'ve been trying to get the armour to look dirty with rust patches on it.

Sadly my photo skills aren\'t too good and I\'ve also cropped it to fit.

I think the rust is too bright.
It looks awesome, but I first thought the armor was torn and showing a red gambison beneath.
Lean it more toward brown/orange for rust.
You probably want to dirty it all up a bit too rather than have rust spots, since it\'s chain and not plate.

Your photo skills look pretty good to me. Just put a colored piece of paper behind him next time so we don\'t see the keyboard.
