hmm, well where to start this game cost me 2 years of my life.
if you have in anyway an addictive personality, dont play this game you will lose friends , relationships, and possibly your job , i managed to hang on to my job, but suffered with the previous 2.
the addiction, well for me came from the endgame material raiding content, i strived always to have the best equipment possible this becomes neccesary if your guild wants to stay on the forefront of the great server pve progress race. my problem is i tried to be in the best guilds and always wanted my character to be the best it possibly could. most raids last approx 4-5 hours with serious guilds requiring you to attend at least 4-5 of these each week. to keep up that level of raiding you need to farm lots of mats for consumables(or start paying real money for wow gold and buying consumables needed from auction house), already this becomes a vast time sink add to this the pvp arena and the bg to get da pvp epix this can quickly spiral out of control, and without decent gear you cant succesfully pvp, wow is a gear dependent game without it no matter how \"skilled and leet you are,you will be getting wtf pwned\" get used to that sort of language as well particularly on the pvp servers.of which 90% of the community are total dicks, maybe not so bad on the pve and roleplaying realms i didnt ever spend to much time on the \"care bear servers\"
having said all that though if you have good self control and a totally different wow gaming philosophy than myself, then maybe you can get something not totally self destructive out of it
