But what would be wrong with the \"south to rise ag\'in\"? Didn\'t the south just stand up for what they believed was right? They disagreed with the way their union was going and according to the Declaration of Independence there was a precendent set and it says it\'s ok to secede from a union with which you no longer agree. Seems valid to me. If there are growing pains and something isn\'t working out then what\'s wrong with going your own way? That\'s all the \"southern\" states did. By the way, anyone realize that Maryland wanted to secede but Lincoln threw the individuals who had the power to make that decision in the clink and occupied the state so it couldn\'t secede? I mean, think about the implications that would have had if Maryland had withdrawn from the Union. The heart of the USA would have been trapped between two Confederate States. I mean, wow! You know the original Confederate White House was in Richmond VA but they thought that was too close to Washington DC so they moved it farther south?

Things could have been very different my friends. It\'s good to know history and find out reasons for why things happen before throwing around statements that may be hurtful to others.

She had the worst voting participation of any congressperson in history. When announcing that she would accept the Green Party Nomination for president she claimed (on NPR) that the central plank of her campaign platform was impeachment (That\'s just stupid seeing as she would be president if she got elected). Her father was a distinguished state congressman for years (Billy Mckinney). He has the dubious honor of being the only man in the GA state congressional record who threatened another representative, he said \"I\'m gonna cut you man\". When Cynthia lost her seat Billy used the floor of the state legislature to blame the Jews. And if we weren\'t smart enough to have gotten the point he spelled it for us. \"J-E-W-S\". @Friar, I would stay away from Ron Paul. The guy is associated with Aryan/Skinhead publications. It just came out in the news yesterday that the Ron Paul Newsletter had hundreds of anti-semitic and racist columns published over about a 9-year period. No one in their right minds would own slaves these days even if permissible.

Hell, I\'d dare say that hiring workers at minimum wage or even higher to work for you during the season would come out costing you far less.

It\'s the same reason why stores like Wal-mart are putting in the automated self checker.

So either way, the people you are describing are of such an extreme minority (So extreme that I\'ve never encountered any) that they would stay a minority, or a stereotype created by the ignorant or the paranoid.

For everyone reading this, I am all for states rights and the ability to secede from a union with which they no longer agree. That is a confederate secesh view.

You can\'t say that everyone who is a \"south will rise again\" type is that way because they want to reinstate slavery. That wasn\'t even part of the War Between the States until 1863 in the sense that that is when the Emancipation Proclomation was written and the slaves in the SOUTH freed. It didn\'t free the slaves in the north. So, how is it that the southerners got the rep for wanting slavery when the north didn\'t abolish it at the same time?

I seriously don\'t understand how history has gotten so skewed other than to say that history is written by the victor.

I for one am from Virginia, I did re-enacting with my dad and a bunch of friends for the Confederate States of America. Now everyone seemed to think that was because I believe in slavery and am a racist. Quite the contrary. I believe in equal rights, I believe one has to work for equality, it doesn\'t just come. I believe that we all need to play nice. But I also believe that states should have more power. I think that\'s called being a Libertarian these days?

It is a huge insult to me and other people from my region when we are credited for being close minded hicks who are only interested in opressing people. That\'s like saying all northerners have their heads up their asses. Which is not true!

What kills me . . . and my family is a perfect example . . . is that people who preach equality hardly ever follow it. Now, here\'s the example with my family. When I was 16 I had a black friend who was a male. He liked me and I liked him. I asked my mom if I could date him and she said no you can\'t. He\'s black, your white, you can\'t date him. My mom is a self proclaimed liberal from the North. When I told her she was racist her response was, no i\'m not, I have black friends.

My dad, who portrays a General of the Confederate States of America and flies the first national flag of the CSA said, Yeah sure! Date whomever you want. As long as they treat you right I don\'t care what color they are. My dad is a Libertarian. He also believes that we have not reached the pinnacle of equality and that is because minority groups are holding themselves back by keeping stereotypes alive. Can\'t say I disagree really.

Odd that divide isn\'t it?

Phil thanks for the post read that article it wasn\'t really about his articles bein in skinhead/aryan newsletters, it was more about some claims that there were bigoted, anti-semetic, homophobic articles in a newsletter that had his name attached to it, the editor of that newsletter was fired when word of what he was allowing was found out and Ron Paul took responsiblity for not watching this newsletter closer and he did take responsibility for having not watched over this newsletter closer. I don\'t really count this article as the news more of a smear attempt given the articles release right in time to hit the new hampshire primaries. The author of that article was also quoted in an e-mail as saying \"I don’t think Ron Paul is a homophobe; I’m just cynical and enjoy getting supporters of political candidates riled up. If you were a Giuliani guy I’d have called him a fascist.\" Tho I doubt in all honesty Ron Paul will win I like the guy an what I\'ve seen from him. But to each there own

The problem here, Jester, is that you went from one stereotype, and went on to another stereotype.

Bigots? Yes, in the North and the South. Bigots that want to return to slavery? No.) that any attempt at stereotyping them is making them far bigger and more worrisome than they actually are.

To put it another way: You could say that squirrels are dangerous, mean, little rodents, but I have shot and eaten many a squirrel, over many years time, and I have not observed the behavior you insist these squirrels exhibit. I say so.
You say \" I meant the purple squirrels.\" Now for all I know, there could be some mysterious, rabid, fierce species of purple squirrels, but in all my years hunting, I nor anyone else I\'ve come across have encountered them.
Due to this I must assume, that these purple squirrels are not as dangerous nor as numerous as you assume them to be, because surely I would\'ve heard about them from other sources, right?

In other words, the rednecks you are referring to are the vicious purple squirrels, they may exist, I\'ve never seen them. So I must assume that they are extremely rare, or entirely fictitious.
