@KruleBear - I've bought other stuff from Red Box, and Tre is great to deal with. The goblin stuff on the KS is good, and if I had freely available cash I would lay it down right now. But "freely available" and "cash" don't go well in a sentence in our house right now :)

@MightyChad and Moe - Thanks guys!!
Thanks to everyone for the general interest.

LR has come along nicely. Liking the use of the juice term, I used it once on here and suffered a rant from some dude who obviously didnt like the term and so seemed to think that he should do all he could to impress that on me. Thanks to you being a brave pioneer I shall now resume my use of the term.... Nice use of the juice on the LR :D

OK.
I'm just gonna have a general venting rant here. No pictures to see. Please feel free to just turn and walk away.

WHAT THE HELL IS WITH PHOTOBUCKET FREEZING ALL THE FRICKEN TIME?!?!
I have just attempted to update this thread 5 time during the course of the day and every single fricken time, photobucket freezes, taking my web browser with it, meaning I have to restart the thread again after opening task manager and killing the web browser. GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.

Any other photo host/;storage websites that could be recommended would be greatly appreciated cause Ive had enough. Wanted to put up a neat little pic of my LR work, and another piece Ive restarted but as of yet I cant get the thread done.

OK done. Normal service shall resume shortly.

I think it's part of the "update" they are getting ready to push. I haven't had it freeze, but it's getting a lot more frustrating to work with. That's for sure.

:)
thanks guys. Yeah, I think it doesn't respond well to being "tabbed", you know, multiple tabs on the same web browser window. I opened it up all on its own, copy-pasted the links on to a stickypad on my desktop and closed it again all without a hitch, where before I was switching between cmon and pb, and trying to copy-paste links that way.

Anyway. For the sixth time, I am going to try to update this thread.

MightyChad previously suggested having the computer near to read while the paint dries. My answer to that looks something like this:
WorkspaceAndSpacetaker_zps555ef3ec.jpg

The laptop stand was part of my christmas bundle. Very handy.

More work done last weekend, on the LR:

And on this guy, who I haven't shown before:
10yearpaintjob_zps5ca8b517.jpg

I found him amongst my stuff out back when I was doing an "audit". I have the count and breakdown, some stuff has changed hands in Mini exchanges 30 and 31, and I have bought more stuff since then. I bought this guy as a PC for WHQuest, and started painting him. Things happened, and he never got finished, so I figured it I should do that. And get a quick +1 for "mini's painted this year" hehe. The black on the end of his nose is to cover a small chip on the paint there, but everything else in this first pic is "original" The stripes on his pants were the last thing I did, so I carried on from there. I went over them with Nightshade Blue, lightened up with gradual addtion of plain ol' Skull White, then shadowed again with the base colour. The plan is to lighten the skin and armour a little, finish the boots and base and call it done. I only started this guy about 15 years ago.

Looking at the pics I can see where I could tidy up the highlights on the pants, but I'm not sure I'll bother. Maybe.
I was going to get more work done tonight, but breadmaking and the internets distracted me (lasagneigh anybody?), so hopefully tomorrow.

Haha I was thinking i'd have some spaghetti bolog-neighs :p
Thats enough of that. 15 years to get a mini finished, Thats gotta be a record :)

*Looks over to the Knight on his horse from 5 years ago*

I believe that may be a record. One that I hope not to replicate! Gotta get my freehand up to speed for that one.

@secretpaintgeek - juice away my friend.
@Tryst and Skel - Glad to know that pb isn't entirely shoddy, it is at least partly me! XD
@ In Chigh - I don't have one of those accounts, but thanks for the lead, I'll keep it handy :)
@SPG and PegauZus - I just had a little break from painting and gaming is all. Record? I don't know about that. Maybe I'm just the first one to be so foolish as to stand up and say "here's a job I never finished" :p

Little update today. Didn't paint on the weekend as usual, but because Papa Nurgle played tickle on my foot, I got extra days at home! Spent all of Saturday and Sunday reading The Stand, by an author you may have heard of, one Mr. Stephen King. Actually only the third book of his that I have read. Anyway, Monday got the paints set up in a new location, and put some on some mini's.

A bit of work on the engine, and I think I'm just about ready to call it done. It may not win any awards, but it'll certainly do for tabletop. I'm working on some other stuff here, might put that up a little later.

Taking a little break from the Land Raider, I've pulled up Lady Nyvenne from Red Box Games.
See http://red-box-games.com/

LadyN130219b544x800_zps2159ca1a.jpg

A couple of thin coats of GW Bronzed Flesh, a light juice of GW Dwarf Flesh, then to try something different, a couple of thin washes of purple ink.

Then began to build up the highlights with GW Elf Flesh. I'm aiming for a pallid skin tone, living, but not...healthy? Still looks to dark in the dark bits IRL i think.

OK, also, sorry for the crappy photos, taken by mobile phone, with a single light source.

Also, my mobile paint area has relocated to another part of the house, what opinions are there on white LED as a painting light?

Skin, we are not friends. Yet.

*Sigh*
Too much time spent painting Space Marines (I think) means that skin and I don't get on that well, yet. I gave the skin a thin wash of GW Purple Ink, then lightened the skin tone up again, primarily using GW Elf Flesh. Then a single thin wash of GW Green Ink, then lightened a little again. Then I went and ruined the face. Starting with the eyes, then tried to tidy up with plain GW Skull White, a thin cover of Elf flesh, and kept trying with the eyes.
At this point I'm contemplating stripping the piece back and starting over.

For the record I wanted an unhealthy/not-quite-dead look, as I was trying paint her as a Necromancer. Any one that can point me towards a good tute on that kind of skin will be greatly appreciated :)

I was going to say she was looking a bit like a zombie, so maybe you were'n that far off. Those pure white hilghlights definitely need to be brought back to a skin color though.

Thanks for the quick reply Tryst. Zombie... hmmm

The eyes would help, I went from pure white, to white with black pupil, then black with white pupil for a more supernatural look, then messed up changing the right eye, so balanced it by doing the dark under the left.

Also, finished reading The Stand today. I really enjoyed it.
I'll have another day off tomorrow due to my foot, I give it another go then.

Hard to tell fom the macro view, but looks like the paint for the highlights were toothpick or dried too quickly...I have been there, done that. Your concept looks right on, the execution just needs a little tweaking.

More work on the Lady Nyvenne today. Face, face, face.

I went over with GW Elf Flesh, then a single thin wash of Hybrid Purple. Another touch up of Elf Flesh, then a thin wash of Waaargh! Green. Another touch of Elf Flesh here and there, then disaster... thought I was going to pick off a tiny lump of something (grit?) and it took a whole chunk of paint off, right down to the metal. SH***T. Thought of writing her off then. Put it aside a moment, picked here back up and the Elf Flesh, and fixed.

Some work on the hair, but not really noticeable in these shots.
Damn. These shots the paint look really lumpy, gluggy. But in the hand I cant see any of that texture, and I'm thinning my paints down quite well (I think).

I broke this update into to so that my fragile sanity could manage...

Lady Nyvenne continued -> Dress, Dress, Dress.

I started with 2 thin coats of GW Deadly Nightshade (forgot to photo that )

Then I started to apply Vallejo Game Colour Hexed Lichen in thin coats as a juice.

130228LadyNd800x661_zpsc5599e7a.jpg

Then after I went over again with a couple of thin coats of the Deadly Nightshade, then started to highlight with about 2:1 Deadly Nightshade and Space Wolf Grey.

Now I'm thinking of a thin glaze of blue ink just to "re-blue" it. What think you?

PegaZus

Stealth Freak
Ah skin. Don't ya just hate it? I need to do a nude study as practice.

As for the blue... I dunno. I don't think what you've got is horrible, and doing the blue ink may wipe out what you've got going on already. But... you could always do the shades and highlights if the ink goes too far.

Not a lot of help from me.

I wouldn't add the ink as it looks pretty good...unless you push the highlights further to say a light sky blue. Then is might help to ink it.
