Thanks for the kind words guys :)

@Pegazus, a nude study might be a good idea, but ATM I've got plenty of minis in my stash which will give me ample opportunity to paint various skin types - wood elves, ghouls, naked male bezerkers...

@KruleBear, yeah ok. I wasn't planning on going any lighter on the dress really, I want to maintain a darker kind of look.

Looking at the pictures now, the idea has popped into my head to deepen the shadows instead.

Yeah, I was kinda referring to what I should do. My stash is mostly monsters and such. My skin painting suffers because of that.

oh, ah, excuse me sir. :)
But I totally understand, for me years of painting mostly space marines with their occasional bare head has set my experience of flesh painting back somewhat.

A busy few months since March, IRL. No time for painting, but I've been lurking around. There was a holiday in there, those guys above were some of the little I got to do while we were away. I had the bright idea of mounting the arms on the sticks, to better paint the bodies and arms, then attach later. I've yet to finish them off. I'd like to achieve a high-table standard with these. See how I go.

Thanks Will! Yes, there will be a highlight of pure Bone colour, and probably some very fine pure white highlights as well. I'm pretty sure that's where I was up to, it has been more than a month since I put some paint on these guys.

Soooo, it has been a little while. Real life blah, blah, blah... had a holiday, was too busy to paint, was made redundant, found a new job etc etc...

Going for gaming table standard on this, he's the Tester. I have no idea what the base will be yet... Though I've got some stuff glued down on the base.

Hey RayzrYR, how are the Terminators coming on, you definitely got them off to a good start. As Willdorling said, if you bring up the contrast they'll look great. I take it they are Dark Angels Death Wing, no?

Hi Sigmar3, to be honest, the terminators haven't moved since I last posted them. They're nearby though and will be done, but I've got a few things I want to paint before hand. There are 3 painting comps I want to enter so I'm going to work toward those. Then I'll get these cultists finished and perhaps the terminators...

A few more views of the Cultist for your consideration. The red is duller than I intended, initially it was brighter: Scab red, with a Dark Angel green juice (3 layers), then Blood red to highlight, but the Blood Red started looking pink-ish to me, so I washed over it with Plasma Red ink, which brought it back to red. But too dull? Comments appreciated :)

The transitions on his right side cloak are rather harsh. May want to do some glazing to smooth it out.. I like the colors selected and looks good for tabletop. May want to go back and add another brighter highlight in the future to make them pop further.

Are these GW figures or someone elses? I like the looks of them.

Hey KB, yeah they are, I went too dark with the shade there as part of my playing around. The left sleeve (hand on the trigger) is probably where I want to be. I'll put another one in this range up soon I hope, and show how it was before I put the red ink wash on, get some feedback. These guys are the Cultists from the GW Dark Vengeance box set, latest 40k rules release thingy. The set is full of Dark Angels (which will add to those I already have) and Chaos, which I'd been wanting to do for a while. More painting After I get assignments done...

A little tweaking on this guy. I want to move on tho the rest of the squad, but I also want to get the colour down so the process is nice and quick. So on this guy note the transition in the colour on the sleeve and at his right hip, the front of the cloak where it is flapping up a little, and the red. I added a little highlight of straight Blood Red there. Thoughts guys?More of the squad back there, mostly base-coated.

Quick update of progress, snapped with phonecam.Cultist 2 of the squad so far. This is the only shot worth looking at.Took more shots, but really quick as I was about to get ready for work. Cant see enough detail in the others.

Nice tabletop level work there, RayzrYR. The latest version looks much improved, imo. The DV set is full of really good figs, especially if, like yourself, you have an interest in both DA and chaos. I was especially impressed with the chaos chosen. Those are really quite marvellously old-school chaos, but sculpted to today's high standards. With regards to the cultists, are you planning to keep the bases as they are, or do you have further plans?

Thanks MiJ, appreciate it. Yes, I will be doing something extra with the bases, you can see a bit of gravel glue there on the base. I will be adding paint to try and get a urban theme going. Concrete colours, that type of thing. I'll plan on doing this when the rest of the squad are done.

More months of no painting :-(
Getting back to it, I'm participating in gohkm's charity auction. (For details: http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?55096-Australia-Salvation-Army-Bushfire-Appeal )

I'm working on the Chaos Myrmidon from Ilyad for the auction. The target is to have it ready by the 25th of November.
So cracking on!

After priming, I found more mold lines so I've removed those or filled them in where appropriate. A couple of firsts for me on this project: First resin piece I've really worked on, grey primer, and use of Green Stuff. I just opened that pack yesterday, I purchased that in the late 90's, maybe 2000. Now I've broken the seal, I'll just have to use it all up!

Whoa that thing looks pretty big! I am doing the charity auction too. It has got me really excited about painting :0

Demihuman, I tip my hat to you. You set out to achieve a goal, and pulled it off with style. I know Zab and Dragonsreach also put some real effort into their respective works, and the charity auction went off with great success, thanks to gohkm. But I bit off more than I could chew and life shoved a few extra spoonfuls in on top. Like being told a month before christmas that i have to find a new job (second job hunt in a year). So I'm kinda feeling like a charity-fail.
The job thing is just about sorted, again. I'm sending the Chaosmorph back to gohkm when I finish stripping it. Then maybe I'll finish something already started. There's enough of it.
