What are some euphemisms and cliches you use or annoy you when others use them?

(Remember: a euphemism is a \"nice\" but inaccurate way of stating something.)

evil tendencies

Cake or Death?
\"we have a slight problem\" - which usually means \"we\'re totally FUBAR and it\'s your responsibility.\"

\"Those models are really detailed.\" I usually hear this from my family, and it means \"I can\'t believe you waste that much effort on a toy.\"

\"Could you do me a favour?\"

This question, when coming from my boss, usually means \"You\'re working lots
of overtime.\"

We should never forget:

\"We need to talk\", when coming from our significant other, tends to mean \"We\'re
about to break up.\"

or that you did something wrong and you neglected to apologize.
Or she\'s a spoiled brat and hasn\'t been getting enough attention lately.

My pet peeve is .....

\"Question for you.......\"

Thanks for the disclaimer. I am quite likely going to be able to discern wether or not you are indeed asking me a question when you actually ask it, but thatnks for the heads up idiot. I get that at least once a day.

Also, work related, \"Can I say something off the record?\".

Sure, I\'ll just kill the tape recorder here and now say whatever you want, consequence free. Maybe you\'ve always thought I was a crappy boss, maybe my wife and kids are all ugly, just go ahead and say it, then I will fire back on all the recording devices so you will be held accountable for the words you choose to use to me. Hate that.

ScottRadom\'s already covered the \"Question for you...\" one. That bugs the hell out of me. I usually hear it as, \"Let me ask you something...\" Annoying.

Also: \"To assume is to make an ass out of you and me.\"

No. No, it doesn\'t. Assumption is the basis for human logic and intellect. It\'s insulting to hear this phrase in response to an erroneous presumption; one mistake does not warrant a smug dismissal of all assumption. The look I\'m giving you after using this phrase is called hatred.

Actually most old sayings are hideously stupid, and delivered with such a smugness and lack of thought to meaning that it should be legal to smack people in the face for using them.

So I\'m gonna flip things and end this post with a phrase I don\'t think is stupid: \"Get out of negative relationships and associations like you would get out of a burning house.\" :)

What the hell else could it be, something other than what it is?

I\'m gonna stick up for \"It is what it is\" mostly as I use it at least 6-40 times a day. I use it in response to underthought questions mostly. A staff member holding up a box of ground beef and asking \"What is this\" will get an \"It is what it is.\" right back at them.

Too many times I get people saying dumb stuff like \"What\'s a porkchop like?\" and they get \"it is what it is\". \'Cause then you\'re beating them at their own retarded game!

And Wiccanpony, if I ever decide I need to go out swinging from this world, I\'ll look you up. I think I\'d love to be \"coked to death\". I think you get a special parking spot in heaven right near the front if you go out that way. Or maybe I just need to Indian Leg wrestle Belushi for his spot.
