Last Friday my right middle finger was sore and swollen. I didn’t worry about it; I just kept working and stuff. Saturday morning I woke up and my finger was the size of my thumb. I could barely bend it. Ok. I was getting a little worried, but I figured it would go down. If it kept hurting, I would go to the doctor.
I spent most of Sunday in bed with this swollen sore finger. I was starting to think it might be a spider bite. The whole finger felt like someone poured acid inside the finger and re-attached it.
Monday I went to the doctor and he told me what the problem was. I had an infected in-grown fingernail. So, it was lanced and drained. I found out why the figure was green. Nurgle would be proud.
Anyone else have any medical mishaps ? Painful or otherwise?

Worst for me was jumping off a fence into some long grass and having an upright rusty iron bar go staright through my boot and into my foot. I was miles from home and unable to ride my cycle back.

I had some friends over for a gaming weekend, and one of them started complaining about a sore on his backside. As the resident medic, I took a look at it and discovered an ingrown hair that had become infected with green puss. He went to the ER, got some meds, but I still had to help him put sterile packing into the wound.

Funny thing was that it didn\'t gross me out at all; I was so fascinated with how the wound looked and acted that the inherent grossness of working on an open wound on another guy\'s arse didn\'t really affect me.

I\'ve had the infected ingrown nail a few times now. First time it was a Big Toe, like you said it swelled up, turned kinda yellow green, produced more heat then a furnace and felt like it was \'bubbling\' on the inside. Since then I recognize the \'symptoms\' and usually just drain the damn things myself. All in all, not very much fun.

Erm i had a tree go through my arm in a car crash, also punctured a lung broke my back a bone in my neck a rib a collerbone and three cstraight snaps in my arm.

as well as that i lost my two big toe nails playing footie (but they have regrown)

and we had this hand made rug at home from tunisia and i ran into it and the edge cut straight through my nail and skin and left it a bloody mess. The skin then started growing through the slice in the toes nail.

Missed a step this last week and rolled my foot a bit. Thought I\'d twisted my ankle, but instead my little toe swelled and turned purple. Had to take a picture, just so people didn\'t have to get near my foot to look at it. Wonder if I should post it for reference? Oh, and it\'s back to normal colors but still hurts a little.

I um... Broke my wrist? It was actually a pretty bad break though. I still have scars from surgery.

Stupidest moment was playing football near home around 6 years ago.. Ball went over a fence I went and got it and coming back....stepped on the top of the fence to jump off.. Conciously putting my foot on top of the railing point as a launch point rather than in bween them. Ended up hung upside down with a railing through my foot.. lovely..

Another weird one was a cluster of hairs on my neck in the beard line.. looked like one big ingrowing bugger but when I pulled it to relieve the swell it turned out to be around twenty all with their own roots.... bizarre.

Broken both my feet, bruised both wrist bones, hit in the head with a baseball bat (got straight back up), jumped off kitchen table onto stone floor head first (was little), hit in the head with a paddle bat (like a tabletennis bat without the rubber), streptahchochle infection of the sinus with cellullitus of the face (any medical people will know how bad that could have gone). 2 inch scar on my knee where my dogs dew claw got stuck in and sliced my knee (should have worn trowsers not shorts..). Various other cuts bruises and scars...

Many moons ago I wiped out on my bike on the way to an outdoor concert. I had a four inch gash in my elbow full of gravel and dirt. I went to the St. John\'s Ambulance station at the show, they wrapped it and told me to get my ass to the hospital. I promptly did... after the show :O Ah the invincibility of youth. Anyway it was not serious but did hurt like a bugger and had to be debrided a bit, then soaked in a painful solution a couple of times a day until it healed. These days, I\'d probably get Flesh Eating Disease and have to have my torso amputated.

i used to be in st johns

i have done a couple of bad things.

-jumped of a wall shin went down a tree stump. all my shin was just a mess.

-dropped in on a 15 feet quaterpipe ramp on my skateboard. lost control fell head first in to a set of concrete stairs = face in a mess.

-when i was young slipped at side of swimming pool cut my head open, could have drowned unless this boy pulled me out.

-when i was very young when i couldnt swim i was in a rubber ring and fell through i could have drowned

-gone over the handle bars on my bike millions of times usually landing head first.

-tried climbing down a wall to my mates house, mis-judged it face planted the wall= face a mess.

-dislocated my little finger by crashing into a lamp post on my bike.

then various cuts and bruises with skateboarding etc.

funny thing is i have done all this and a few other things but never broken a bone ever

* Lent my elbow on a desk at work after a farmer in grubby work clothes had been using it. I felt something stab into my elbow but couldn\'t see anything there so thought nothing of it. Woke up about 4am in the morning to find my elbow bright red, swollen and painful, and me feeling very hot even though it was cold. It took weeks and weeks of two different antibiotics to get rid of it. After a blood test the doctor called me back to say he was going to send me to hospital for intravenous antibiotics, but he changed his mind as he thought it was slightly better than earlier. To this day that elbow isn\'t quite the same.

* Was swinging on a bar in the school changing rooms and letting go to see how far I could jump (I was a kid, I am not that silly anymore!) with someone else. Caught my wrist on a piece of metal high up mid jump and had a neat cut that went all round one side of the wrist. It was weird because there was hardly any blood, very little pain, but a thick layer of skin was hanging loose. I don\'t want to be too gross but you could see some of the tendons / ligaments and muscles and stuff inside... It creeped out the teacher anyway she didn\'t like looking at it! That took a few stitches and the scar is still visible today.

I havent had a whole lot of serious injuries but the ones I have had, I made sure counted.

I cut my ring finger on the right hand off at the first knuckle when I was three years old. It was reattached but I have no movement at that knuckle.

About a month ago I was pulling 250 MCM(big wire) into an electrical panel when my right hand slipped and the top of my hand ran down the sharp edge of the panel. I ended up cutting the tendon to my middle finger completely through and had to have it reattached. I am still healing from that one.

2 fingers down, 8 to go lol.

as for injuries:
drilled into my hand on many occasions but once i left a bit of swarf in it. slowly got more and more painful, until after a couple of weeks i couldn\'t touch it. i noticed a bit poking out and pulled it. damn that felt awesome!!

cut myself more times than i care to mention

fell down the stairs twice and ended up with stitches both times (i was a kid so no alcohol involved)

my lungs have collapsed 3 times

broke my hand punching a wall

nearly lost an eye playing squash, thankfully my glasses took the brunt of it and it just slashed open my brow

on my 18th i stopped breathing twice (thankfully my parents used to be on the resus team!)

On my bike my front tire kind of grazed against the curb and it threw me off my bike I sent the rest of the day pouring dettol and fishing the grit out of my wrist, hand and arm with a needle

when I was about 6 I fell down a flight of big stone steps in our garden and split my head open.

Got shot in the leg by an air rifle, luckly at the time I was into baggy jeans and hoodies, so the thick jeans saved me from more pain, but I hit the floor hard when it happened and had a nice deep purple leg for abit.

In spain a few years I got totalled by a huge wave and got helped by 2 pretty topless women

I\'ve had alot of little things. the typical cuts and drills into skin from the hobby. I have a small 1 inch scar on my right arm from a deep cut by broken glass. Another small scar on my leg from a rusted nail when i failed to jump through the barn window smoothly, did manage to tear the barn wall down at the same time. The only real serious medical condition was having my right foot mangled and torn up thanks to a lawn mower when i was 2 years old.

Just barely dodged the bullet on this one, still gives me shivers. I stepped forward, not seeing a LONG rusty nail, and my weight/momentum was already comitted. I felt the nail push through the heel of my shoe. The nail went all the way in and hit the infantesimal space between my foot and shoe. The thing went almost all the way up to my ankle bone.

I\'ve had two very unpleasant cases of staph infection within the last 7-8 years or so. Being diabetic and somewhat more susceptible to infection, when I get one it usually is a nasty one.

One was in my left armpit and had to be excised. Not a whole lot of fun, especially since it was cut out without benefit of anesthesia.

The other was...well...in a more sensitive region. My doctor wouldn\'t do anything with it due to location but just told me to soak in a tub of hot water. So I did and after a nice long soak it finally split on its own. Again, not a whole lot of fun.

This thread should have a warning label. lol
