Khornate Champion

LET ME WARN YOU! This was my first real step towards eternal damnation! i laid my hands onto the nice resin mini shown below and suddenly strange voices whispered to me: "my, it looks good, does it, but you can do better, you know you can...."so i set about upgrading the beast with muscles, bony protusions, and horns, not to forget the quadruped add-on. this was fun and resulted in the finished piece shown above, but was a long, long pain to find a proper inspiration for in regards of painting and detailing; in the end i settled for a classical khornate palette of colours with the flayed look for the beastie and the flame/glow-on-black-metal for the knight. BUT, since doing this sculpting job, however, the voices won´t leave me, as everytime i see a mini, or even think about one it goes "good mini, but you must change it, you want it yourself, just do it"... as net result there has been since three major "freehand" sculpts, namely Slaine´s stag, the monstrously large Daemon Lord, and a work in progress ork warbeast, all of which are on show... let me again stress this: converting is just the beginning, be careful, as it ultimately leads to uncontendedness with ANY mini sculpt, and in the end sheer madness, trust us, we know it.... now i´m off, i have recently had the vision of sculpting a 28mm version of Khorne himself on his throne upon a mountain of skulls "Do it, yes, yes, you want it, too, easy job for you , do it, DO IT......!" urgh, you have been warned.....

Dark, brutish and imperious, what a Khorne champion should be. A real menace on the battlefield! Great!

thank you for commenting! i think it most instructive to get instant feedback, all the more so as i was excited to learn how some of the details work with you.... my main concern here was in fact the axe, with the SMOKE rising from it; it doesn´t show in the pic, but it (the smoke) is half-transparent in various swirls of grey and black and looks nice in real life... achieved with mixing Woodland Scenics Water Effects with acrylics and modelling it on a thin sheet of clear plastic. if you want to try it, don´t forget to coat it matte! the dark background is something i regularly am guilty of, for light/flame/glow effects work infinitely better, looking much more flat with a lighter background (i always take pics with various backgrounds and choose by comparison). This time, however, i toy with the idea to post this same mini with a light background, just to compare the response... Thanks again for your advice ! Happy painting to you all!

I always enjoy the originality of your conversions. The freehand on the shield is also especially good!
