Thanks man :) 40k brings in the viewers, but they seem to tolerate my forays into other genres too now that I have built up my webcred :p It is months behind my WIP thread here. Need to update that blog background though - hard to read sometimes. In the new year most likely.

Yeah, after the initial setup it isn't that time intensive. Especially when you consider you can use your CMON posts to build your blog entries. I try to go into a little more detail on my blog so it gives people a reason to check in there too, so that adds a bit more time. Mostly I think it's nice to have a single site where all of my content is easy to find. WIP, gallery, tutorials... it's all there. And with the blog label system it's a lot easier to find something there than to search through 40+ pages of WIP thread. Using games like 40K or Infinity can help bring in a lot of viewers. But even if you mostly post boring historical figures people still seem to stop by.

Ok the blog makes good sense, I just need to start taking baby steps. BFoK you can definitely write some articles for my blog :)

Do you guys have any preferences on what platform you use? Like Blogger vs. wordpress or whatever?

I use blogger, but wordpress is very similar - six of one half dozen of the other type deal. Are you sure you can handle the level of internet fame you will acquire? I mean, it gets pretty crazy. I have like 104 followers and I don;t want to brag, but you should see the size of my blog roll o_O

How do I become one of your blog groupies. :p

I believe there is a button on the bottom right hand of the screen just about the area where it shows the various folks who have joined. Usually people only join under duress. It's weird that you are volunteering...

There's no proof he volunteered. For all we know, you might be holding his cat hostage. The Interweb is full of lies!

Wait! How did YOU know Zab was holding my cat hostage...how did you know I even had a cat. Oh boy, your not with the paparazzi are you?

It Has Begun...

Stay tuned! I should have my first blog post up in about 6 months! LOLOLOL

While I have been procrastinating on finishing Joanie, I did a one hour-paint-job on a Reaper Bones mini I picked up a while back. Might spend a couple more hours on her to get her table top ready. Did some washes and some very quick NMM. I think if I just went back in and cleaned everything up I could get her to a decent level in a relatively short time. Kind of a neat mini. Wouldn't mind owning the metal one. Not sure i would ever want to assemble the metal version though. The Bones version is just one piece:

I also need some help with my Reaper Giant entry. I have him all assembled but I am wondering about the pose and if i should do something more with his weapons. Particularly, I am wondering if i should shorten the anchor he is carrying as a weapon in his right hand and if the harpoon is too big. I imagine whaling harpoons got pretty big, but at scale this is about 4-6" in diameter and about 12' long. Maybe too big? The back story in my head is taht an old fisherman/carpenter is maintaining this undead giant that has been left over from some forgotten eon. his right leg is patched up with wood boards and he has soem other tagged on bits as well.

So what do you think of the pose and my conversion weapons?

Thanks

Demi

Neat! I really like the harpoon. I think the one with it higher up, poised the throw, is the more interesting pose. Are you going to have a rope hanging from the harpoon too? The anchor seems a bit big, but I guess it depends on what sort of ship it came from.

By the way, this tutorial might give you some useful ideas.

Oh, and Industria Mechanika has some etched brass which you might find helpful too

PS. I would love to see the giant wearing an eye patch

I like the sexy blue skin on that lady o_O That was weird wasn't it? Oh well, That giant looks so fun. You have to do the bone all dark and aged and stained. So much potential for pigments...

It must be Wargamesculptor's night off...

A pirate hat certainly get's me thinking. I don't think I can justify an actual pirate hat, but maybe some other sort of head adornment? like maybe an umbrella, or a canon strapped to his head? I have had a soft spot for giants as architecture since GW, or maybe Ral Partha had the giant carrying goblins with catapults on platforms on his shoulders.

The etched brass looks good, but I think I am going to see how far I can get with plants and what not. I did spring for some tiny sea shells though. Nice barnacles in that article too. I am a little concerned that I am going to do a bunch of work on a resin 'water' base and not be able to see further than a 1/2" or so into it. I really need to do a test run.

I found some nice images of hand thrown harpoons in this article about some native Alaskan whale hunters. Pretty interesting article too:

I think my harpoon is a little large but not beyond the scope of good story telling. The Anchor will get cut down a tad. I left it so it would be easy to do when I put it all together.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Sorry late to the party, was doing something really wimpy ( Sleeping). As for the giant like the harpoon size but the anchor needs shortening and thinning where it joins the hand as it's currently wider than the hand. Like the base, if you use a slow cure clear resin you'll have more time to remove any unwanted bubbles and agree on doing a test piece before covering all your hard work.
As for his positioning does he look interesting and balanced from every angle

Ok I love the bottom pic, at least how his head and torso appear in that image. With him looking to the side like that and sort of bent over, I can sense the mechanical movement he would make. Though agree that you should change the position of his harpoon arm in that pic. The harpoon arm looks our of scale in the bottom pic, but keep everything else pretty much the same and you have a very dynamic pose.

Love the background story. I too love the giants used as architecture. Don't forget about FW's Chaos Giant, with all sorts of implements strapped and tied to him.

Also so think the Bones mini is cool, especially for just a couple hours. But Bones....ugh...

Will be such a big Demihumn groupie when his PLOG is written.
