Thanks to all for the very kind remarks. I'd have to say that Skeletette was a big inspiration, as I reviewed his WIP quite a bit to get the creative juices flowing. I will definitely be handing my wife the Fimo more often in the future. BaM, I can't really say where the gate comes from, as it was a gift from our friend Bailey03.

Perhaps I can help with that then. Those gates are model train scenery. The company that makes them is called Busch. Search for 'Busch HO 6016' and they're called 'Fence with Gate'
I believe I picked them up from euromodeltrains (which is based in NJ). Those fences are plastic, by the way. If you're looking for etched brass gates here are some options...
This guy on ebay has some forge world etched brass. I don't see them over at the forge world site, so maybe they're discontinued or just mislabeled.

ScaleLink is a nice resource for a lot of scenery stuff. They have some really cool ornate gates and other etched brass scenery stuff.

I'm going to take the liberty of posting some of SkelettetS' brick work. He has graciously provided me with a very basic description of the recipe. He really does a great job of it, and I am having some trouble mimicking his greatness. There are three separate areas of brick on my base. The walls, the floor that Cannibal stands on, and the brick pillar that the gate is affixed to. I'd like them all to be slightly different.
Walls: want them to look like Skel's half pipe.
Pillar: Want it to look like Skel's back wall.
Floor: want it to look like the swordsmen's bases. Not sure how he does the tannish looking bricks, but the darker ones are P3 Coal Black shades with VMC smoke.
Of of course he uses weathering powders on them. I have a nice set of these and will certainly utilize. But any advice anyone can give me on how to best copy (steal) Skel's fine results, or if you have a better or another source of inspiration this is also appreciated. Thanks folks...

By the way, I must mention here that the greatest Kickstarter in miniature history has begun. They asked for $80k 19 days ago, and now have over a million bucks from backers. It's quite the deal, you get a ton of high quality minis for next to nothing. I'm talking about Conan:Hyborean Age by Monolith games. Sculptors such a Stephan Simon and Kingdom Death Thomas David. Well, it's less impressive when compared with the exploding kitten card game that raised over 2 million in just two days! But seriously, the Conan game looks cool. They're releasing a ton of stuff with it. I'm a little worried that the figures won't be up to the standard of display painting. However I still bought in for the game. If the figures are great for painting then it's a bonus.

Yeah you make a very good point. They talked about being able to sell so many figures for so cheap because of the casting material. Hope this doesn't make them cheapo. It would seem such a waste to take all that talent and waste it on cheap materials. But I suppose if your goal is to satisfy the gaming community,then our needs as display painters are secondary. Ill PM Stephan Simon and ask him his honest opinion on the subject. It says this of their quality on the KS page:

the swordsmens red bricks are also based by dark red. or was it black red? lol. anyway, i mixed and glazed them afterwards with smoke. but i never found the original recipie, i did two of the bases first and even though i know exactly what colors i used the rest never turned out exactly the same which is annoying. normal people dont see the differance though i suppose, heh.but yeah, only red and smoke used what i can recall.

AnD thank you Skel for following up. Just love your brick work, so please consider my blatant copying as a compliment. Anyway, here is a little brick work done with the scaley green and black-red (self mixed). Not bad if I say so myself.
By the way, I am an abnormal person too cuz I caught the difference in the Greatswordmen's bases...lol

Of course, it would be hard to say for sure before we see the finished game, but almost as good as Wyrd plastics, that's pretty good. Personally, I shouldn't back more kickstarters... but this one sure is tempting.

Thanks so much for that, O. I've had my eyes on this project since its infancy, before beta testing, and it's so darn cool to see it succeed. It's a shame so many are putting it down in advance of actually seeing the minis. I think it comes from the pure disbelief that so many minis are available for such a good price.
