Well being home sick all day I had nothing to do but paint and watch college hockey. So here's the shield with some freehand on it:

Thank you guys, glad you all like it so much. There was an extra black line in the tail fin that was bothering me so I went and fixed that. Now it's on to the main body armor. I base coated the whole thing in a turquoise color, now I'll go over every piece individually with shading and highlighting.
After having a discussion with Bailey03 at last year's CB about transporting minis, I went on ebay and bought an old metal makeup kit for very cheap, ripped out the insides and cut a piece of plywood to fit inside. Then screwed some holes and added a dowel in the center and now I have a nice transport box. Sadly my octopus piece is too big so I'll have to have a second box for that. But here are my four other entries ready to transport:

Great job on the shield. I like it all, the freehand, the NMM, and the blue/teal background.
Yeah, as long as you're driving and not flying, I think this is a great way to transport figures. I just bought some cheap tubs at the hardware store. Another option, if you feel like going fancier than the dowel, is to use a small table leg. You can often get short (6" or 8") ready made ones at home depot or a store like that. One thing to watch out for is be careful the tub doesn't tip over. I've had that happened when I've had to break suddenly. Depending on the size of the container, you might be able to wedge it behind the front seat of your car so it's not able to fall over.

Tubs are a great idea, I may have to do that for the octopus. Last year I was super nervous because I was just using blu-tack and a cardboard box! Thankfully nothing broke on the way their, the way back is another story...
I started on the body. The majority of the work went into his left shoulder pad (the fish head), but it's still not finished. And the left shoulder pad is far from finished, I just ran out of time to paint for the day.

Today on instagram I saw that Joaquin Palacios and Sergio Calvo are both coming to Crystal Brush. I don't know if they're entering anything or just spectating, they didn't mention specifically. And as far as I know Joaquin is more a sculptor than a painter and there's no sculpting category this year. Maybe he just sculpted something special for Sergio to paint. Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing what Joaquin thinks of my gladiator paint job since it's his sculpt. I also saw that Karol Rudyk landed at O'Hare, things are happening!
