Thanks, Zab and Khonner. It's metallic paints. I've been trying to improve on my true metals (haven't made the leap to NMM), but the general idea is to treat them like NMM with lots of contrast between shadow and highlight. The basic process was to start with a base coat of black brown. From there I covered most of it up with a mix of black and old bronze (Reaper paints). I used a lot of matte black in the mix to darken the color and dull the shine. I then applied successive layers with less and less black in the mix. After that I started to mix in some Vallejo Model Air gold. It's a bit of a weird shade on it's own, but it's great for highlighting. I went to maybe 50/50 bronze and gold, then used pure gold to pick out the armor details and hit some of the other edges. After all that was finished I used some washes (black, green, and blues) to deepen some of the shadows. The colors are subtle but hopefully they add a little bit of visual interest.
