Being Understood

Well, I\'ve always had the support of my husband, so I am very lucky. Of course, as he paints, too, that one was easy.

We did have a friend a few years ago who was big into 40K and even had a banner made up to stand behind him at tournaments. Then he got a girlfriend. Within a couple months they were engaged. Within a couple months of that, she made him stop painting, role-playing, and gaming. :( I never would have thought it possible...and could not imagine ever forcing my husband to give up a hobby he loves. Heck my own hubby plays EverCrack, and I\'m still married to him!

I do find that some relatives of mine just don\'t get it...until I mention there\'s money involved and then they nod their heads and we change the subject. :)

joking aside, my wife has always been real supportive of my \"little\" hobby.

She has even painted a few here and there. Until, of course, I noticed it wouldn\'t take much for her talent level to equal and surpass my own.....Then I helpfully steered her into another hobby...lollol

...wait a minute, I AM the wife.

Am I\'m ready to kick my husband\'s butt because he\'s recently been paying more attention to his stupid Magic: the Gathering cards, than his minis. I even already got him a Confromtation Grand Crane for Christmas and am thinking about trying to get him a Heresy Netherlord.

So am I a good wife?:innocent:

Bless you Duende, your husband is a lucky man :). But be weary of the Magic card ... fowl evil can only come of it ;).

I lend my Eldar Falcon to my boyfriend because he wanted to paint something bigger than the regular person-minis. Okay, I got it back better painted than I would be able to, and I actually hadn\'t any incline to ever paint it, so I wasn\'t really a loss.:D
An other time I gave him a Wrathlord I once got from eBay. It was thickly covert in paint, and we spent an whole afternoon striping it.
I also wanted to give him my Drune- Archers, but he didn\'t wanted them and bought his one.

Well, you get my point.

The only problem is that we can\'t agree on who paints better, but since he now is like 200 positions above me in highscore I think that\'s now cleared.

But our little private competiton is still open(if he gets the mini finished).:flip:

My hubby has his music and his gadgets to hook up to the computer (as well as two guitars, several music editing programs, and a keytar) and he paints the occasional mini. He darn well better understand my hobby as it certainly is cheaper than his!! lol

He\'s been drooling over electric drum sets that run in the four figure range. All I do is say \"The baby needs (fill in the blank)\" and that tends to shut him up. I haven\'t made any personal mini purchases for several months, and before that it was nearly a year.

Nah, it\'s okay. I can\'t paint right now anyway until I do some more cleaning and rearranging around the house and to do that I need my back to heal (about 10 hours hard back labor when the baby was born and I already had a bad back, and this was after over 48 hours of being flat on my back on an uncomfortable hospital bed after my water broke) which seems to be taking forever (always something to be done around the house). Not to mention with money being tight... but it\'s all good. Wiccanpony just sent me my next painting project (THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!) by sending me a mini I\'ve been trying to find for around 10+ years. :D

I have a great understanding with my Fiancee. She doesn\'t claim to understand my obsession with Mini\'s, and I don\'t claim to understand her obsession with eventing.

At least my hobby doesn\'t have a high risk of serious injury.

ok, I\'m jealous, I think painting has probably been a contributing factor in ending my last 2 relationships. The most I hope for anymore is kind of a \"don\'t ask don\'t tell\" policy about the miniatures and keep them out of sight best I can.

My girlfriend doesn\'t paint, and definitely doesn\'t wargame, but has been known to do RPGs on occasion. She\'s actually said, \"I get it, it\'s just not my thing,\" to me, in relation to my figmentia. The scary thing is, I think she does get it. ;) She\'s done a lot of other artwork (ran a comic-zine for a while, done lots of drawing, etc.), and she\'s fully willing to talk about paint schemes and overall composition. She\'s even more critical than I am when she winds up looking over my shoulder when I\'m surfing this site. lol

She hasn\'t yet bought miniatures for me (and probably never will, but that\'s fine), but has come with me to game stores, remaining incredibly tolerant of such adventures. :) At least she\'s a Sci-Fi junkie, so I rarely have to buy any new books--she gets them first, and I get to read them when she\'s done.

@minimart:
I like you!! You\'re a good \'un. Sounds like your wife knows it, too. :)

My fiancee got me started. I first painted some old minis he had in a box. Now I\'m the owner of the collection, while he collects other stuff (formerly including the dreaded MtG - make warding signs against evil!!).

Now my problem is that my guy wants to paint his own figs, but he seldom gets inspired to paint, and he won\'t let me paint them for him!!

We\'ve been playing in a D&D campaign for a year and a half and he hasn\'t even primered his figure yet, while I\'ve painted 4 different figures for my character.
