At least my hobby doesn\'t have a high risk of serious injury.
Or require expensive tack, feeding, stabling, transportation, exhorbitant vet\'s bills, and a special uniform that you have to wear.

Mind you, you can\'t fertilise the rose bushes with bits of old sprue...:flip:

whille my girlfriend loves all the fantasy, and sci-fi mini\'s, she refuses to wargame, simply because we\'re both too competative and she would like for me to have some time for myself.

Surely not?

I\'ve read all your posts Dave and you never struck me as being the competitive sort........

Okay, I don\'t post often, but I can definately chime in on this one. My husband and I both paint, we both put our pics on CMON (he\'s much higher, but I\'m catching up), and this is how Christmas is probably going to go this year:

I get him a Forgeworld Wave Serpent, and I\'m in the process of painting him 4 more Swooping Hawks to go with the Exarch I already painted for his army. I\'m painting the Swooping Hawks while he\'s working nights, so this will be the one present he doesn\'t know he\'s getting...can you tell I\'m excited about this? :D And although I wasn\'t too keen on him getting into 40K because of the cost issue, I find that I really enjoy painting Eldar, so for now it\'s okay. lol Also, we are working on an Armorcast Revenant Titan together. I do the wet blending, he does his unbelievable free hand. It\'s gonna be awesome if we ever get it done.

Now onto my presents: he\'ll probably get me that cool Rackham box set with the Light Elemental in it (I think it\'s a light elemental, the lovely angel-looking thing), and whatever mini tickles my fancy between now and then.

What\'s really funny is that our local game store recently started running a painting competition. It\'s been going for three months now, and so far he\'s won once and I\'ve won twice. Yee hah in-store credit!

Needless to say, we are a disaster when we go mini shopping. It\'s so hard to know \"when to say when.\" lol

I want that Rackham one too! Gotta add it to my Christmas want list...

There\'s a time to say when? :flip:

How about people other than your Significant Other?

My parents and other relatives either 1) understand my obsession (my Dad is a major fisherman now that he\'s retired) or 2) started me off on the road of RPGs and Figmentia (my brother) and/or encourage it (an aunt who loves any kind of artwork I do as long as she gets some of it).

Plus they all love how cheap some of the minis I ask for are so I\'ll end up hauling in about 20+ minis between my birthday (in November) and Christmas. I\'m still hoping for some of the Reaper Dragons although I\'m eyeing some Confrontation and Rackham minis (amazingly enough).

True how the gift of mini can be spread though the family. This past Christmas between all the in laws I ended up with a pretty sizeable Imperial Guard army. Boy we sure can be easy to buy for!!:flip::bouncy::flip:

My new slogan this Christmas will be Rackham....Make Mine Metal

Am I the only one who found this funny?

@green stuff: i don\'t mean this to poke fun at you, i have a tendency to use \"mourning\" for \"morning\", especially when used with \"breakfast\" :)

@ leopardpixie I think that counts as a triple whammy because after that tale I am sure he has had to given you something in kind....certainly he doesn\'t keep the plastic and metal to himself:D

But as I say, she\'s unfathomable to me,
Isn\'t that the definition of a woman. I think I saw that in websters.

My wife just locked me out of my art room 5 days before my birthday. Big day comes only to find the room completely organized
-all my loose minis put in new sorted storage bins
-all my painted figs put in a new display case
-all of my paint brushes in a new holder
-my mega-paint set sorted on a Tier 80
-a new paint rack holding my first 8 Vallejo game color paint (which rock)

What a woman!

Pity Party for one, now seating (cue tiny violins)

My wife has no patience for it, and does not understand the hobby or anything else about it.
I\'ll show her something I\'ve worked hard on, and all I get is a half-hearted or dismissive \"that\'s nice.\"
Her only interest in it is when the credit card bill arrives, or a package in the mail - then the bellyaching starts.

How do I get her to be more sympathetic? If she\'s not into the hobby, that\'s fine - I\'m not into her scrapbooking at all, but I support and buy for it - what am I doing wrong?
I\'m not really looking for a painting partner (though if she got interested then that would be good too), but I am looking for a little support for something that gives me a little joy, stress relief, creative outlet.

How did y\'all resolve this?

I think you have the answer right in front of you.....You are not into her hobby. There is a difference between supporting her and taking an active interest in it. How about an activity for her involving you. A scrapbook of you and your mini work might be the chance to bring the two hobbies together thereby facillitating a n involvement at a different level than you have now.;)

Buying indicates tolerance.....sharing indicates caring.....just my two cents:D
