MaY be you could do something like that dotted effect on that "X" in his chest......if you do the x in his chest it will make a "triangle focal point" meaning if I make or draw an invisible "line connecting" all the parts together that have that dotted texture..it would make an imaginary triangle. Which is a trick painters use to keep the scheme balanced..if it makes a triangle (let's say right foot to left foot then to the x in his chest and back down to his foot) . The eye will see balance.

I know you have our best interests at heart, BAM. I've decided to blindly follow all your advice from now on, as I think the nobbly legs came out great.

Right then, here's the results of a bit of a paintathon. The head and tentacle grabber thing are on! BAM, I went with stripes in the carving on his chest as I figured it would look like stretched muscle or sinew.

I continued the nobbles over his bottom and across his shoulders to try to harmonise with his legs on the (ahem) 'rear' view:

so here he is. Base aside I'd say he's about 90% done: lots of touching up and completing bits. Plus a base, which I have no ideas about yet. And some slime/UHU. And probably a load of other stuff I've forgotten. But anyway:

Adding that blue OSL to his face, and the dotted texture on his a** and his shoulders were a very clever moves. Congratulations!
I also like the extended arm's piece of armour.
Oh! and +1 to what KruleBear says :highfive:

Thanks guys: appreciate the nice words. I feel like I've been doing this for so long (particularly this red brute) that I can't quite believe that he's only my 4th ever mini.

oh, and I'm glad you like the armour because I struggled (and struggled and struggled) with it this time around. Gah, what a pain it was.

Hmm... so: do I basecoat Maulgy tonight or do I make the base for this chap? Decisions...

I am seriously impressed with you my friend! (I may be taking liberties here)

He's looking really good - what I especially enjoy is that you're not afraid to take chances and experiment. And it pays off as you figure things out.

*last exam is on Friday - I can hold out for four more sleeps.....*

Ha: Digga, you're a loony. Love it.

Arch, no liberties taken: we're all friends here, right? Good luck getting through your last exam. I suggest you have a painting party to celebrate!

Okay: this not a poppadom. It's an experiment, and I've no idea if it will work.

I've thinking about a base for my big red fella, and what I would like is some sort of cracked dry earth (like a dried up riverbed). To make it I figured I would need something thin, hard and brittle to break up and glue. I first thought eggshell might work, but gave that up (um... Because we didn't have any in the house). Instead I tried this:

1. Take a sheet of baking paper.

2. Spread fine polyfilla over it with a palette knife.

3. Fold the the paper over and squash it down so it is more or less an even thickness.

4. Unfold and and leave to dry/cure.

5. When dry peel from the paper.

I I now have a rough side (from the lifted paper) and a smooth side (from the side still stuck to the paper as it dried). Hopefully I can break it up and glue down as shards of broken ground. I'll let you know how that turns out - gulp! Still, if it doesn't work I won't be too upset, as it has basically cost nothing and took less than 5 mins to do.

So here's the poppadom in place and broken up. I'm actually quite pleased with it. Lots more to do on the base, but so far so good...

Looks like an interesting idea! Do you think you could drill through it without crumbling? I mean it seems rather fragile (from the pictures) because of the thickness... And I do not knew that polyfilla paste so that why I am asking :p

Hi Maenas. It cures hard but it is a little bit brittle. To do the cracks I glued it down as one sheet, then cracked it into the glue with the end of a paintbrush before the glue dried, then put a book on it while it set. Now it is pretty solid and only the edges are crumbly, which I'm going to trim with a stanley knife anyway. I'd say once you've done this (and maybe glued onto wood rather than foam card, as I have done) it will drill easily.

Polyfilla is made be these folks: http://www.polycell.co.uk/

As you can see the stuff is for home DIY so is designed to be sanded and drilled. And if it cracks when you drill it you can always fill in the cracks with... polyfilla! Great stuff.

An alternative to get the effect would be a couple of Citadel's technical paints: Agrellan Earth or Martian Ironearth. They seem to be designed to crack.

But I like your continued creativity. :)

Thanks, Arch. I'm still having fun!

I saw those tech paints but I think they act like a crackle glaze: so the cracks are small and not very deep. I worried that they might not suit the scale of korgi and I wanted it to seem like really unstable ground. Still: plenty of things that could go wrong yet, so I'll keep it in mind for then!

Sounds like a smart plan ^^ And now I think I have some of that paste, but with a different name from another brand. Thanks for the link anyway ;) and for sharing the process!

Yup, I also think that argellan earth, even the crackle medium from vallejo.... will produce little cracks compared to this ones. If I don't recall wrong Khonner (another user) got a nice base doing big cracks with an artists medium. here-->http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums...-Khonner-s-WIP&p=795288&viewfull=1#post795288

Grr...

Thanks Tero, you're a rock my friend.

Here's the base more or less ready to paint: I kept it simple because he's such a big ugly mother, so didn't want to distract from him. The little crosses are where his feet are going to go.

Unfortunately my daughter knocked him off the piano (quite what she was doing up there I have no idea), and there's a few chips on him - plus a bit fell off. Grr! He's fixable, but I was so annoyed I skipped painting the base and did more work on King Maulg. He's over on the paintalong thread but I'll put a pic of him up here too, for posterity.
