bgcdazzler's first ever mini WIP (a confusion of cockups and learnings)

Coming along very nicely - the gloss on the inside of the tentacled maw works like a charm. You were smart enough to leave bits off, like his modesty belt and headdress - I, naturally, did not. So there's been a lot of painting around and in between. *sigh* I'll learn eventually.

With regards to the glaive: my vote is brassy gold. I think it'll add a bit of warmth without detracting from the awesome skin.

*ninja ArchArad curses you for drawing her in with your painting.....returns to her lair muttering about linguistics*

I would say gold/brass/bronze because I link those metals to evil... but let's see what others say ^^

Evil brassy gold it is! Thanks folks.

In other news: I had a bit of a failed greenstuff experiment tonight, I'll share some pics tomorrow.

As promised, here is some greenstuffing experimentation. I put a bit of an SBS on the paintalong, but be great to know what you think. I'm thinking it's a bit big, but I left it a bit oversized so I can whittle some more texture into it.

and as usual I made up too much, so used the leftovers on this fella. Hadn't revisited him in a week, so nice to get him moving again.

his left hand is weird, I know: I wanted to do an open hand with splayed fingers (because I'm a idiot), so this is a sort of armature to add the more detailed bits afterwards without it flopping all over the place.

Phew! Back to a bit of painting tonight.

Stop with your distracty ways!

I like your beard idea, but I do think it'll need some whittling down for scale.

Agree.. and I would add that if you want to make it that long you better glue it on later or it will be in the middle of your paintwork for the miniature chest and six pack. ;)

Thanks Digga. That means a lot coming from a proper sculptor. I've since done the left hand I am utterly shocked that they both came out about the same size. I'll share pics tomorrow.

Back to the brushy stuff (for a break): and ol' korgi is progressing slowly. You may be forgiven for thinking that not much has changed from the last time you saw him. I gave BAM's mad idea a go (and am almost cross eyed now as a result) - what do you think of the legs? BAM: is this what you meant?

here's a couple of pics of the metal bits. I'm not happy with them: they look far too messy to my eyes, but not quite sure what to do to rescue them.

Both the sculptures and the painting are looking good!
I think the BAM dots on the legs of the monster look great, but now my eye wants something similarly detailed on some other surfaces. A good problem to have, making the rest as cool as that part!

Nice patterns those dots, the addition of "lights" to them as Jhon advised you is really giving a nice touch.
I do not know this miniature though... is he missing the upper part of the head? If so I think that when you add it the problem of the eye focusing the dotted patterns will be solved. Since everytime I look to this mini I scan it all for the "eye to eye" contact. xD

Thanks Maenas. Yes, he still has a couple of bits to add on including his head. Unfortunately it's the least impressive bit of the model in my view - it's very fussy and his actual face is comprised of a tiny little head/brain bit in the middle of a complicated jawline/headdress combo. But you may be right: it's certainly fussy so will draw the eye.

Let's hope so, anyway: I'm not sure what other details I can paint. It's such a detailed model I'm kinda drawing a blank: although I think I've figured out a fix for the messy metals - I'm going to outline/shade to boost the contrast between the base and the overlaid decorative plate bits. I'm hoping that will work.

You're putting my only-started Khorgorath to shame by the sheer awesomeness of this paintjob!

Hmmm - I have other models I can rather paint after exams....

P.S. This is meant in good humour and to be a compliment. :)
