Just to let you know my Sprogrot arrived this morning, although the postman was confused because I don't live at number 6 lol he's lost the tip of one ear but I may pass that off as battle damage and the scale mail under the back of the head needs some repairs so I'll have to break out the GS and see what I can do, looking forward to painting him :)

I'm glad he arrived in (mostly) one piece Sicks. Poor old Sprogrot: he just about managed to survive the Battle of the Post Office.

I did look in the box for his missing ear piece but there was a small hole in the corner of the box so it could have fallen out but nevermind, I will attempt to make it look bitten off, hopefully this evening I can get some quiet time to get the GS work done, my step son broke his wrist at school the other day so we are all being treated as slaves until he goes to bed lol

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I'm hopeful that I can keep improving.

Digga: Aw, don't be sad. He's on his way. In the meantime hopefully this will cheer you up...

yes, it's post 500 celebration time!

and the illustrious author of the 500th post is none other than Mr Digganob himself. To celebrate here's an ork (of course) that I'm seriously considering sculpting. And if I ever do (and if he doesn't completely suck) then I should be honoured to name him after the names master himself.

Introducing.... Digga: DragonRider.

ROFL! That is so funny! Love the drawing :D But Digg is a bit too fat for that poor dragon, wonder how they got airborne.

Just popped by to say awesome sculpts! :) Gotta do the orc riding a dragon, that'd be amazing.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks everyone.

@tero - be nice! Remember your resolutions for 2016... Besides, I'm sure he's a strong dragon.

@mattias, welcome, and thank you.

Right, bit of a change here. I was thinking today that in order to improve my sculpting I should see how they paint up. I figure it will teach me whether they need to be smoother, less or more detailed, and so on. If I approach them from a painter's perspective it can only help, right?

well, maybe.

Anyway, now that Sprogrot is making his way out into the world I figured I'll start with him. This is by no means the 'official' painting guide to Sprogrot- I'm just messing around.

First I sort of thought of him as a 'night orc' - a nighttime raider of sorts. Plus I was inspired by Kretcher's excellent darker Maulg so decided to make him quite dark skinned.

Here red he is with a bit of the face done - not finished, of course.

I think that it is a cunning plan and will definitely inform your future sculpting. Just out of curiosity: is that the original Sprogrot or one of the casts?

Depending on a painters style some prefer a smoother canvas, while others prefer a heavily textured piece to work on. As the sculptor you get to choose which way you want to go and always think " do i want to paint this " if the answers yes, then you'll probably find other people want to too. Unless you have unique tastes then your on your own ! ( Like me :weep:)
