bgcdazzler's first ever mini WIP (a confusion of cockups and learnings)

This is looking really nice. The pose is terrific and very dynamic, but you've managed to keep the anatomy pretty solid, though he could still use a bit more of a bum...
I agree that the wrap works well, only thing I'd suggest is pulling it away from the back side of his right leg a little to add to the sense of motion. All of the details (eagle head, rune, oak leaf) turned out great.

He strikes me as a mage. I think its his dynamic pose I see him wielding a staff in his hand behind him and using a wand in the hand in front. A duel wielding mage is a scary thing :)

Thanks folks.

Khavor: good point about the bottom, but I'm going to add a cape so this will definitely grow.

Digga: good suggestions! I'm very conflicted about what weapons to do, which is partly why I've left them until (almost) last. My original idea was to do two reverse-grip swords, but I can't make up my mind. Maybe I should make a few different options?

Cool - I think I'm going to go with a staff and a sword, split the decision down the middle.

Snatched a a few moments to update him with the beginnings of the cape. I'm going much slower on this one (by necessity rather than choice) but it may actually be helping me to think more carefully about what I do to him. Food for thought.

The paperclip shows the rough angle for the staff.

And I'm still painting the flesh faire entry when I can. I'm in the same boat as Yeti: There's no way I'll get it as good as I want it in time, but I will at least have something.

Your elf is coming together nicely and I think that the staff and sword will work really well.
One small complaint is that his face looks a little older than I would expect for an elf. It may be a slight roughness or the deepness of lines, I'm not 100% sure... I also don't have anything to suggest since what I know about sculpting is not worth mentioning.
Flesh competition entry is looking good too. Will be interesting to see where we finish.

Thanks BaM, Yeti.

I've done a bit more: pattern and overcape bit on the back, and filled in those age lines on the face. Excuse the rubbish pics.

Thanks all.

@digga: the house move is long, boring, stressful and complicated. I won't send you to sleep with the details, but we've found a buyer, and now we're gearing up for mortgages, storage, legalese etc. It's going to be a few disruptive months before we can physically move.

On on the positive side we've had an offer accepted on a house with 5 bedrooms and a garage (which are like gold dust in London), so there is definitely a man cave in my future!

@Schwarz: that takes me back. And creeps me out. :)

@oistene: yep, still searching for that elusive 'perfect' model. This isn't it, so I may as well practice different effects and twiddly bits!

Congrats, you've successfully adulted!

The sculpt is looking good and as I've said before you are coming along more and more with each sculpt, it won't be long before you're making stuff you are 100% happy with :) keep at it! and remember us when you're a pro sculpter :D

There is a gent I met on here a while back...his name is Stavros zoulitas from Greece... He was sculpting and painting...there were few people who gave him poor scores..he was ready to hang it up and worse he was ready to just do painting...well long to short,he kept sculpting and made a choice -sculpt or paint- the sculpting gods won...and now on putty and paint he is ranked ahead of me and I'm in the top "48" painters in the p&p ranking system.hes 46. And he also has won medals and accolades at the Greek expos.ill be painting some of his figures and busts for website art and box art variants..so you'll see what I mean about how talented he is. So my point is keep going as I see the same talent inside yourself with the putty!!!! Give it a year and you'll be saying the same things like he did ,that he never would've thought he'd be a popular name..:))

Great advancements Dazz!! You went big on Dynamics on this sculpt.

On the move and etc... Been there, done that. So I'm feeling your pain, take a step forward from time to time and don't forget the objective ^^

Oh! And I agree with BAM ;)

Got in a nice session last night, so here's the latest on both...

the elf: got a staff in his hand. I went with a simple natural wood style to suit the whole oak leaf thing. I'm also pleased with the hand: it looks like a hand! Feels like a step in the right direction.

and a bit of painting. Skin is almost there except for her back and some more highlights, but still got all the detailing to do. And a base! Will I make it in time? Tick tock!
