Oooo, I really like that demon dude! And your pair was real nice, really had to think who to vote for there. In the end I decided that it was a painting contest and not a sculpting contest, and the vote went to yeti by a small margin... but those contests are always real close. Just look now, Maxxx is closing on the lead. Anything can happen.

@Sicks: tutu it is then. Don't say I didn't warn you!

@oist: thank you - I completely agree with you, and Yeti's model is a worthy vote winner.

@krule: thanks. Onwards and upwards!

I am unable to point out a single thing that I do not like on this last demon sculpt. With those textures you gave him a lot of character!

Lmao tutu and tights... Hahahaha, well robot witch, if the mob has spoken that means one of two things, your either getting burned at the stake for witchcraft or your a professional, well at the very least not an amature.

Borrowing the Ant Man costume

I'm glad the demon is proving a hit. I might even make it my second cast of the rest goes well - if anyone is interested? And if anyone has suggestions for the body/armour/clothing, I'm all ears!

now here's a bit of fun I did tonight. I got to wondering: how small can you go? So as a bit of an exercise I borrowed Tero's Shrink ray and decided to make a mini mini.

Main homage to Tero I thought 'he likes tiny, he likes metals, he likes ridiculously small books'...

So here is a tiny robot sitting on a tree stump reading a book.

He's just short of 11mm tall from base to tip, and honestly, I really don't think I can go any smaller than that without losing all sense of shape and detail. Still, a very fun (if frustrating and tiring) thing to practice. Hopefully it means my bigger sculpts will benefit from such attention to detail.

Oh, and as Teronus himself would say:

"the mind blowing pic":

Cheers!

As said above - I would totally like a demon!

Roboboy looks cute. Don't like the base though. I always feel a bit let down if I unbox a mini and it has a base looking like someone pushed a toothbrush in to give it some texture. No ground in no scale ever looks like that. Second point: I feel the upper edges of the treestump could be somehow more crisp. They look pretty round and soft which feels a bit unnatural since the tree probably was taken down with a saw.

Roboboys pose is great. I even think I interpret some expression of being all lost in the story on his metallic face. Well, that's an achievement.

Good job, sir!

Dr. Bob

but not THAT Dr. Bob
Oh, awesome! I would totally buy this mini. I am OK with the base. Simple and sort of old-school. Can always static grass it if one wants.

My only nitpick would be that I wish the book was indented/folded more in the middle. Looks a little bit more like a newspaper than a book right now to me.

Hope you end up casting this! :)

You are definitely on a roll this weekend, either one looks worthy of casting. I'd more likely buy and paint the robot, but that's just personal preference. He reminds me of the old Rackham familiars. Could make a good alternate squire for a Cygnar warcaster in warmachine.

The demon looks so good, love the texture on it. And the robot guy is looking cool. You got some great sculpting skills there.

I'd be totally on board with your demon if you cast him. Although persistent lack of Sprogrot is sad. :( That little robot is adorable! Love the sense of whimsy he conveys.

Thanks for your comments everyone!

@Schwarz: thank you - yes the base isn't the best. But a bit of flocking or grass will soon hide it...

@drBob: thanks the book isn't yet baked so still time to increase the bend in it. But I have absolutely no idea how I would cast this little fella. Anybody got any tips?

@khavor: glad you like the robot - again, no idea how I'd cast it. And I don't charge for my minis, it's all just for fun. Despite Digga's insistence, I'm certainly no professional!

@BaM: thanks, man. :)

@fluister: cheers, thank you for the compliment. Not a patch on your Paul Bonner dio though, that stuff is looking amazing.

@digga: resignation not accepted! Now man up, soldier, and get that sweet ork bust out into the world!

@Tero: thanks man - if I figure out how to make copies I'll send you a whole squad. If not I'll just send you the original - you were the inspiration for the little fella, after all...

@Arch: Aww, missing Sprogrot makes me sad too! My Sprogrot mold is packed away with moving things, but as soon as I can I'll cast you another. I'll chuck a few other goodies in too so he doesn't get lonely on the long journey.

Right, the last of the weekend's work. First up is the demon, with a rough shape to the neck and shoulders (but no details yet).

the front. You can see some neck cords and spiky shoulder starting to emerge:

the back. Here you can see my process more or less from left to right. First I stick some blobs down over foil to get roughly the right shape (left shoulder), then smooth the gaps with a wire loop tool I made (shown earlier in this WIP), like in the middle. Then alternately scoop out little bits to 'carve' the clay and push bits around to line them up (right shoulder). Then I brush it (back of neck, top of head) with a cheap brush to get rid of any crumbs and awkward bits. The more brushing the smoother it gets, but on a crusty fella like this it doesn't take much.
Finally the details are added with a pin (for lines and creases and straight edges). The textured skin is done with the tip of a mechanical pencil with the lead removed: that's what makes the little circles or 'scales'.

Easy, and quick (even for me...).

top of the head, all done:

finally I've been painting the elf. So far I've focuses on the inner cape and going for a brocade type effect with an eagle to mirror the one on his shoulder. It's a bit wobbly in places and needs more dark paint to tie in the gaps, but I'm quite pleased with it so far...

Happy painting everyone!

We are going to need proof that you aren't mechanical in any way shape or form, I'm getting my pitchfork and torch ready

Who are you and were is Dazz?
I'm starting to pack my spanish inquisition kit and come to your place to check it out..... that demon is suspicious!!!

LOL.....

Love that tiny robot, although pretty different it makes me think of NONO from Ulises31 anime series. I agree with some others on the book, it need to be thinner on the middle were pages meet. You could also substitute the book with an artist's notebook (the ones that fold at the short side and you pass pages from bottom to top) For the casting, I would suggest casting the book as a separate piece.

That freehand on the elf's cape are already impressive, they realy look like tapestry!!

Go freehand robot wizard Dazzler go! *chubby hamster with pom-poms cartwheels across the sidelines*

One thing I've always admired about you is your willingness to "give it a try". I've found that I've made some of my best accidental discoveries (in painting and sculpting) by adopting a similar approach. Although your radio of success:dammit seems to be higher than one would expect for a mere human....*suspicious glances*

Of course, your skill, sense of humour and friendship are also to be admired.
