Thanks for your comments everyone!
@Schwarz: thank you - yes the base isn't the best. But a bit of flocking or grass will soon hide it...
@drBob: thanks the book isn't yet baked so still time to increase the bend in it. But I have absolutely no idea how I would cast this little fella. Anybody got any tips?
@khavor: glad you like the robot - again, no idea how I'd cast it. And I don't charge for my minis, it's all just for fun. Despite Digga's insistence, I'm certainly no professional!
@BaM: thanks, man.
@fluister: cheers, thank you for the compliment. Not a patch on your Paul Bonner dio though, that stuff is looking amazing.
@digga: resignation not accepted! Now man up, soldier, and get that sweet ork bust out into the world!
@Tero: thanks man - if I figure out how to make copies I'll send you a whole squad. If not I'll just send you the original - you were the inspiration for the little fella, after all...
@Arch: Aww, missing Sprogrot makes me sad too! My Sprogrot mold is packed away with moving things, but as soon as I can I'll cast you another. I'll chuck a few other goodies in too so he doesn't get lonely on the long journey.
Right, the last of the weekend's work. First up is the demon, with a rough shape to the neck and shoulders (but no details yet).
the front. You can see some neck cords and spiky shoulder starting to emerge:
the back. Here you can see my process more or less from left to right. First I stick some blobs down over foil to get roughly the right shape (left shoulder), then smooth the gaps with a wire loop tool I made (shown earlier in this WIP), like in the middle. Then alternately scoop out little bits to 'carve' the clay and push bits around to line them up (right shoulder). Then I brush it (back of neck, top of head) with a cheap brush to get rid of any crumbs and awkward bits. The more brushing the smoother it gets, but on a crusty fella like this it doesn't take much.
Finally the details are added with a pin (for lines and creases and straight edges). The textured skin is done with the tip of a mechanical pencil with the lead removed: that's what makes the little circles or 'scales'.
Easy, and quick (even for me...).
top of the head, all done:
finally I've been painting the elf. So far I've focuses on the inner cape and going for a brocade type effect with an eagle to mirror the one on his shoulder. It's a bit wobbly in places and needs more dark paint to tie in the gaps, but I'm quite pleased with it so far...
Happy painting everyone!
