BloodFather's Axis of Chaos

Well, that is a little setback. 2 things to keep in mind:

1) Both of those can be fixed.

2) Painting it the second time will take less time since you did it once already.

Don't stop painting just because you can't post. Paint up a few fun cheap minis or just take a break from minis and try another medium like oils or water colors. Just keep up with something creative :) It's just a hobby. There are no bad days - just revisions :)

Oh man, really sorry to hear that. I think we all know how bad you feel. If you spend much time in this hobby you're going to have some sort of heart breaking figure disaster. A couple years ago I watched the most expensive figure I'd ever purchased take a spill off a table and suffer some pretty serious damage (nearly completed at the time too). Then a little over a year ago there was this incident that happened to me during a show. And, whenever there's a discussion about horrible figure disasters I remember this post from Massive Voodoo and the dangers of incorrectly assembling your display case. So just remember you're not alone.

I appreciate Zab's optimism but based on the picture the figure looks pretty chewed up. Save the axe and zombified heads, you can always find another use for them. Take a little break but don't stay away from painting too long.

I cannot tell you how many times my Sammy destroyed my gallery bound miniatures bud...if your In this hobby for awhile which you are. Then it's bound to happen but I want you to think of it this way...what's done can't be undone and I believe all happen for reasons and this is what I believe ...your going to take a break and then order it again ...what that means is ITL be the second time painting the model which 1) it will be painted better because you've done it once already and 2) you know all the slopes, bends ,shapes etc. So it will be better than the lastI truly feel the reason it happened was so you could paint an even better version...REM EVER THIS YEAH IT WAS DE STRONG BUT ITS NOT LIKE IT CANT BE DONE AGAIN ;EVEN BETTER , BECAUSE WHAT CAN NOT BE TAKE FROM YOU IS "ALL THE PRACTICE YOU'VE GOT TEN PAINTING IT....ITS NOT THE FIRST ND DEF WANT BE THE LAST,,,DONT DWELL ON IT WE GOT WORK TO DO MORE RIGHT ON TO THE NEXT AND JUST THINK YOUR THAT MUCH BETTER SINCE PAINTING GOLIATH..IT WAS COMING GREAT BUT WE DONT SAY WERE GREAT ARTIST BECAUSE OF 1 MODEL...WE ARE GREAT ARTIsts BECAUSE WERE ABLE TO PAINT HIGH LEVEL MODELS OVER AND OVER AND OVER...NOW LET GO CHOP CHOP...CMON BUD DO NOT DWELL ON THIS YOUR A SILVER MEDALIST FOR GODS SAKE ON THE SHITE WITH THE WORLD FINEST FIGURE PAINTERS...YOU CAN DO 100 MODELS AT THAT SAME STANDARD...YOUR NOT A 1 HIT WONDER YOUR A SILVER MEDALIST YOU CAN DO 100 IF NEED BE.NOW LET GO ON TO THE NEXT..I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT M8 I KNOW IT FOR A FACT.

And remember that you still have all the experience from working on this figure. With each project you're making big progress. You clearly focus a lot on building your abilities and that doesn't go away. So I know your next project will have even better skin and NMM!

Oh man. Felt that one in my gut.

As people have already said in better ways than I can, it seemed like you learned a lot with this mini, and that knowledge is puppy-proof. When you're ready to paint again, you'll have a lot of folks eager to see your work.

Well, when life kicks you in the nuts, get up and move on. Even if you'll be walking funny for a while, soon you'll be 100% again.

Sorry to hear about this disaster, Blood.. My cat pounced on Fyreshadow which damaged her, leading to I think the 7th repaint for her. Needless to say, the boy almost became a small rug. Over time, the anger fades and you will be painting again before you know it.

Ok, straight talking time.
serious bed news mate, gutted for you. It's a set back, but that's all it is, a set back. You were a soldier who dealt with issues by moving forward, you could never stop and sulk or you would be over run. You know what I mean, time to suck this in and move on, you are bigger and better than this. Make this a learning curve not a life changer, in future how could you avoid this ? Puppy in another room etc.
come on big fella, this site enjoys what you do and it clearly gives you enjoyment, so no more self pity and crack on with the next project. It's one of the best ways to get over things like this.

Set backs happen, annoying yes, you have progressed so far from being the newbie with a ginger haired girl avatar, to now pushing yourself forward to become a more accomplished painter. Don't let this set back prohibit a hobby you obviously enjoy and have a passion for.

mon Benny only you can rise above this I cannot tell you how some of my best pieces were the ones that I started after the so called great ones were destroyed..I need you to rise above this and start Gokan .emotions canot be helped when they initially arrive in our heads but what we could do is vanquish them by a concise effort and literally saying to yourself it happened it sucks, but I'm excited about the next piece models and their impact are only good enough until the next piece.every piece you've done was always strides better than the previous .he may have been your best out of all the others but he in turn wolive been beaten by the next one and then the next one after thatt..hell by the time your gallery has 20 beautiful models in it you'll be laughing that you even went through this...and bud I know I'll be laughing at this with you..saying things to one another like hey ben remember the time at Golden demon 2007 that I went down I even drove all to get to Baltimore convention center to find 2 of my best pieces i know I had everyone beat but didn't even mame the cut to advance cause 2 judges thought it would be great to grab my BSB by the pole instead if the base..no sorry no nothing it cost me my 3rd trophy and you'll say yeah remember when my dog chewed up my fourth mini goliath...this is rights of passage were all cheering for the "most improved painter (MVP) to get back on this horse and let us all know whatever your working on is your best yet..and remember keep telling yourself it's not the best 1 that makes the artist it's the best 10-20 models that are of equal impressive standards and if any body can do this with their tenacity it's you my friend..the faster you start the work on your next the quicker you'll never even care about the previous model...I know you can do this because since you've started you joining of the elite group of those we call fantasy artists you've impressed us all now you need to improve yourself by not so much getting over this but by replacing the love you have for goliath with the love for let's say Gokan ...think bout this !it's the law of replacements..this is what I coined it.. when a female breaks up with a male...the only way he can get over that is by dating someone else...it's the same thing for models or sports or lifestyle ..for example when I found out I could no longer box and participate in combat sports and my love for the iron game like weightlifting I immersed myself in miniature painting and now I don't know what better life I could've been offered but I'm happier than I ever been...hence "the law of reolacements!" Please please please bud start the Gokan and crawl out from this dark place as only I know you can!!!

Thanks a million to everyone that helped push me along. I wasn't sidetracked for long and got a start on Cannibal from Simon MINIS. Really though, all of your words helped me look at this from a much brighter placed. Both here and PMs. A tiny setback is all. Today is Thanksgiving here I'm the USA and I am very thankful for you all!

I wanted to to write a silly obituary for Goliath. Along with his last "living" pic. Stay tuned...

Here is my work so far on Cannibal. Face is almost complete. Then I have put down the first layer of shadows on the skin, but it's going to get much darker I'm the cracks and smoothed out. Sorry for the crappy photos but u get the idea.

Looks good, so how are you taking pics now?

Same as before. Replacement phone came in the mail a couple days ago. They were crappy photos simply because I rushed to take them before I left for the day.

Another note that that is interesting about this project: I didn't prime him. Stephen Simon puts so many tiny details on his minis that I didn't want to obscure them with a layer of primer-no matter how thin and smooth. On Goliath I put a perfect layer of white primer on him and it STILL made some details tough to see. Like on this one, there are muscle striations and scar tissue that would go away if I primed. In talking to Sprocket recently, I learned that priming isn't entirely necessary. Consider this the test. I will say that it took a long time and a lot if patience to get the base coat on smoothly. It's all about spreading the paint evenly and making sure it doesn't pool anywhere, letting layers dry before adding more, and unloading the brush. So basically, if one follows good fundamentals of handling diluted paint, the primer is not needed.
