College? who needs it....

Right now I\'m at SPC, for my general A.A
then its off to New College of Florida for something or other
then off to Law School.

Queen\'s University, in scenic Kingston, Ontario. I did my B.Sc. in biology and my M.Sc. in plant molecular biology there.

I went to Georgia Tech, but didn\'t finish. I dropped out to be a ROCK STAR.

Seeing as how I now paint minis for a living (and was previously a computer game designer), you can see how well that worked out for me.

I still don\'t know Amongst my options:
- EPSCI ( management school in paris )
- prepa ( kinda hard to explain but it\'s suposed to prepare student to go to really good businesse schools )
- Institut d\'etude politique ( my first choice but I still have to pass the admission exame, and considering that only 10% of people pass it my chances are limited
)

My degree was an utter waste of time and money.

I would seriously recommend anyone from a less-than-well-off family think twice about it in the UK.

What is the point in paying tens of thousands to get something 50% of the rest of the population already have?

Become a tradesman, that\'s the answer at the moment...

Only limited if you aint good enough! This is exactly what this country is lacking at the moment - any type of strict selection policy for pretty much anything. No wonder there\'re so many incompetents around.

I spent way too long in college to get a degree that I\'m never used...

I went to The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and got a Bachellor\'s of Science in Industrial Management with a minor in Comp. Sci.

Most of the REALLY talented folks I\'ve ever worked with didn\'t finish college....

Danish Engineering Academy, chemical engineering, hated the subject matter, dropped out one semester from finishing my bachelors.

Copenhagens Technical School for my church-organ building apprenticeship.

Probably send in an application for a teaching position at the Technicla School in the next month. Worked all my adult life in production, rather work with people now than things.

I was studying for a Bsc in Social Psychology at Umeå university in the far north of Sweden, but dropped out a couple of months ago to be a full time father instead.

I\'m also pretty skeptical to higher education, unless you\'re sure of what you want to do. I think Spacemunkie\'s suggestion to learn a proper trade instead is a pretty good idea. But then, I could never conceive of a paper shuffling desk job, I want to feel like I\'m actually doing something.

Did two years, never finished for my teaching degree. Except for Psych I learned a lot of useless stuff like bowling and archery (OK, archery is cool, but useless). I was making more money part time in construction then teachers were making at the time so I just went with that.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree Mr.Munkie. When I worked at HomeDepot there were two \"cart boys\" with computer science degrees, and the guy who mixed paint had at bachelor\'s in agriculture. Useless pieces of paper. I believe the current Union rate for gravediggers is $37.50 an hour, so investing in a shovel might be the way to go.


To be honest, I wished I had finished my Elementary Ed. degree. I love kids, and sometimes I think about \'the road not taken\'. Whatever you do with your life Becca, finish your degree. Even it it is in something obscure like Medieval Basket Weaving. At least you\'ll have it if you decide to do something else.

Well, there\'s always the hot college sex Seriously, that\'s a poor generalization - not everyone WANTS to become a trades(wo)man. If one just goes to university to frig around, get drunk and laid all the time, and emerge with a brand new debt, that\'s bad. But a \"higher education\" is still a thing of value. Even if you go to learn engineering or molecular biology or nursing or whatever, you can take the opportunity to be exposed to ideas and fields of knowledge that you otherwise would never contemplate. University should not be a job training center - it should educate you. I know far too many science wonks who know dick about art, culture or even science outside their chosen niche. I\'m also not saying a plumber or drywaller can\'t be an intellectual, but if they are they\'ll be glad if they took a few years of university/college at some point. And even a career-oriented college should allow the opportunity to take a few \"for fun\" electives.
