Thanks everyone!

Got some final (i think) pictures. Still waiting for GreenOne to to give me the GreenLight :)

Here is a close-up teaser with a quarter for scale. For you Euros and Scandinavians out there a quarter is a giant coin we use in America for serving pizzas on or covering manholes.

BFoK I still have another week or so of "Finish My Sh*t February" which I am doing in honor of the loathsome model challenge. I have been staring at my Rackham dwarves all month So I will try and at least get a little more paint on them. They are really close I just need to bite the bullet, but I also have the custom Kroxigor on deck. I assembled them and they are looking sweet. I think they are going to be pretty easy to paint to. The casts (I think they are actually printed) are some of the best quality I ever handled and they don't have any finicky bits, just lots of scales and teeth.

I think you need to start over.

Whatever can be done to make it better is beyond me and my crits

I will take that as a green light! :) Keep the crits coming! I love all the encouragement and comradeship in the forums, but a thoughtful critique can be invaluable.

In that case, her hair looks yellow. Perhaps you could go for a more realistic blonde look? You can also shade and highlight it with some strong contrasts treating hair like NMM metals.

I paint my thumb.
Just glad I can be useful, keep improved like that and you'll soon be in the zone where I can but watch and nod quietly.

Joan looks great. Makes me want to try an infinity figure. Though how you get those details on such a tiny figure makes my head hurt.

Yeah, I'd like to see Joan, Alien Fart Bubbles, the skeletal colossus, and some others at a live show. We've got the SCAHMS one down here in April and the Bay Area Open up in San Jose sometime around July that aren't too far from you.

Yup, San Jose is a short drive. Bay Area Open is the Last weekend of July and a Crystal brush qualifier. I am committing to being at this comp! Maybe I can make a scifi unit with Joan, Trauma Doc and some other infinity figures. I am also interesting the Historical Vehicle/Monster category. What's a historical monster? Like Idi Amin?

I got a little crit on Joan from Studio Giraldez. He suggests adding some light points on the armor. It's something I have wanted to try for long time but am scared to experiment with. He also suggests more edge highlights to define zones which is criticism I have gotten a lot so maybe I should listen.

In other news Camelson has a nice SBS on his recent WraithLord:

Just need to make it monochrome :)

Its a wrap, looking pretty good in the final congrats:)
As for the crits, it's contrast vs smoothness, you give as much as you can of the first without compromising the second, NMM can hardly have too much contrast, the more you do the more you push it, but it needs practice to do it without struggling, or in a timeframe that doesnt drive you nuts too. Only you know how far you can push on both limits.

So you're thinking about doing a wraithlord for the monochrome competition? I love that model, so may neat possibilities.

Yeah, I always thought the historical vehicle/monster category was poorly named. In this case, monster means a guy on a horse, though I'd love to see someone argue with the judges to get their Idi Amin or Hitler figure entered into the category. Just so you know, the Bay Area Open is a Crystal Brush Qualifier, but it uses different categories. There's no fantasy, sci-fi, or historical divisions. Assuming they use the same rules as last year the categories are:
Single - any normal sized mini under 54mm
Large Single - any single figure 54mm to 1/6 scale (not including vehicles or walkers)
Squad - themed group of at least 3 minis
Vehicle - Anything that can be ridden, driven, piloted, or flown
Diorama - any scenic layout mounted on a display plaque (can include duels)

The judging is on the open system, so gold, silver, and bronze are handed out based on the standard of painting (not just a single 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each category). From all the entries the judges select a best in show that wins their prize package (last year it was an airbrush and complete set of minitaire paints). The organizers of the gaming tournament (not the painting judges) select the winner of the Crystal Brush Qualifier. So Best in Show and the Crystal Brush Qualifier can go to the same figure/person or to different ones.

Last year the painting competition was run by the Draconic Awards (they're doing the Las Vegas Open this weekend too). I'd expect them to do the BAO this year as well, so you can check out their website for more info on the rules and format.

~sigh~ I think I may finally have to join FB :( I can create an account under my blog title I guess - that way family and co-workers can't pester me with friend requests and such... I'm such a virtual hermit :p
