In think the fact the u guys all start discussing about that raped woman plastic set shows that he made his point quite clear.
If it was a stabbed man or some other crime no one would start discussing. And thats the artist\'s purpose on that exhibition. Getting poeple to think.
So art is not always FUN or BEAUTIFUL! Thank god!!!!
Actually most of the beautiful paintings nowadays are crap and meaningless. Who needs another beautiful girlportrait???
The only thing I don\'t get in modern art are all those abstract colour orgasms on canvas...WTF is that for?
This has some meaning at least. A statement!
Sometimes you have to kick the viewers in the ass..or in the eyes...
I dig that exhibition 100%!

What makes you think this artist takes the subject matter lightly? I don\'t know this guy\'s thoughts about this work more than you do, but just assuming he takes it lightly seems a bit presumptious to me. I can think of several quite meaningful ways to look upon this work. Is it a joyful thing to experience? No, and that\'s hardly the purpose either.Originally posted by Friar
I hold the two subjects as one in the same destroying the life of one who is helpless and innocent is not to be made light of it\'s just distasteful and to me shows the character of the artist as being extrememly lacking.
Once again you claim to know the purpose of this work and assume it\'s superficial and mere attention-seeking.Originally posted by Friar
Also one basic difference between the Rape of the Sabine women and this is the first was an illustration of a classic literary creation myth while the later is a representation of people from modern reality while the difference is small it does make the difference, also one has a real purpose to reflect a story from the history of man the other has no real purpose or intent other then shock.

So much for my attempt to lighten the mood a little. Yikes......
I find this statement immensely funny! lol And I don\'t see anyone really being in a bad mood. We\'re just having an interesting discussion!Originally posted by mattrock
Arguing here is a little like competing in the special olympics...even if you win you\'re still retarded

One example of proper moving and thought provoking that pops to mind is the piece Bragon displayed Here
to commemorate the declaration of human rights. It is a stunning piece of art that both depicts a very dispicable act that of binding a person in chains making a slave of them and treating them as they were an animal, but the difference is Bragon approached the subject with sensitivity and respect, He made a piece of srt that is truly wonderful and heart wrenching at the same time but gives his subject a sense of dignity while casting shame on the mindset of man that allowed the enslavement of others. And all this is achieved as I said with respect and a feeling of love and compassion for his subject. (I hope he doesn\'t mind me using his piece as an example of what I mean)
PC: Are there any modern artists you know that you suspect of having no talent?
DC: You mean famous ones? [laughter]. I have problems understanding the word \'talent\'. Perhaps there are some people, who are categorized as being modern artists, or contemporary artists, whom I think aren\'t saying anything with their work, and who are kind of artificially constructed. I\'ve definitely encountered what I would call frauds. That\'s basically a person who has nothing to say and who uses formal means in order to get their work seen. But in music too, there\'re people who only play covers of other people\'s work and act as if they are creating real avant-garde stuff. But eventually they get found out. Sometimes it takes two hundred years, sometimes we contemporaries can\'t tell. There are modern artists now but in two hundred years there may not be. It\'s also possible that in two hundred years time I\'ll be seen as no one too.
