Hey man, sorry about my previous comment, didn't want to sound harsh or anything so if it came across like that, my apologies :)

Must be that you are doing very very smooth transition and keeping your colors really close together which makes it hard to see on a picture with direct lighting!

Skintones are some of the hardest things to get right and it can be hard to get the right amount of contrast in them. What I did was indeed check out the WIP's mentioned above as some of those people have insane skintones in their arsenal...

Good luck man!

No worries at all!

I'm still trying to figure the whole taking good pictures of minis thing. It's hard enough learning how to paint, LOL!

Work continues on the StormTalon. I think I finished the base Caliban Green layer, but everytime I take a hard look, I find a spot I missed or that isn't completely covered. I started covering some of the panels with Zhandri Dust, but it's slow going as the layers have to be super thin to avoid crumbling. I will certainly touch things up with green once all the panel work is done.

yeah, now you're starting to get some contrast on those muscles, nicely done :)

Try to work up the highlights a bit more towards only the upper half of each muscle for the next couple layers (check out BAM's latest work on some brutes for reference :) )

Thanks all!

I think I finished the Dark Flesh Golem. I'll post a pic once the base is done. I started playing around with blending and glazing a bit with it and was amazed at the difference it makes. The next Clay Golem will be another lighter flesh, and I think I will only use glazing for the recesses and see how that works out.

All the feedback is invaluable to me. Thanks again.

Hi,

some things I saw in the thread.

- your start is pretty good, colors are precisely layed down with minor painting errors (who doesn't have them :) , they can be fixed any time)
- Stormtalon: ouch, painting vehicles with a brush is painful. Feeled like an uphill battle last time I've done that.
- altough on the pics the work area looks clean but your minis has little strands and such on them. It may be because you keep them on the paper towel. Anyway 2 things that will help avoid a lot of fustration: clean up the workplace regularly and keep the minis either in mini-holders or on foam instead of the paper. Those little dust particles can ruin your paintjob fast.

- skin: not long ago there was a "competition" organised by WebMonkey called Flesh faire. ( http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?62010-February-The-Flesh-Faire ) you can most likely get a few tips from there about painting skin.
To this a little pic, where I played with some skin colors on KD minis ( http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums...he-Flesh-Faire&p=808345&viewfull=1#post808345 ). Here I just want to point to the dark skinned male, that was a simple: VGC Dark Flesh, Violet shading, Ivory highlights (of course with a few in-between mixes).
Also a small thing, that surprises many at the beginning, how much dark skin can be highlighted. Almost to pure Ivory ( just do a google search or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_skin to see what I mean)
and a face started from GreenBrown and modified as people here advised: http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?52444-MAXXxxx-WIPs&p=755996&viewfull=1#post755996

Thanks for all the tips, and you are so right about the dust!

The little corner I get in our house (we have three kids!) is a dust magnet. I should be more careful with that. Thanks for that advice. I will take it to heart.

More work on the StormTalon. More panels painted Zandri Dust and canopy is done. I tried to highlight the upper middle portion of the Canopy so when it is tilted forward it will look like the light is hitting it. I practiced a bit of blending and am rather pleased with the outcome. It looks rather subtle, but smooth.

How you applied the shades are EXACTLY how your supposed to apply them.controlled a lighter colored wash and as you get into the more recessed creases you apply the darker one, also controlled...if your using GW washes NEVER mix them by adding water.they will turn white in the creases.instead use lhamian medium.it was made for the washes specifically...btw great job.

Dragon Ogre ready to prime!

Color question. I was thinking of making this one rather regal. Part of a royal guard. I'm thinking of painting the claws, spikey parts on his body and some of the little scales a kind of purple and metallic black mix. The lower body/dragon body will be a forest green with a light brown/beige underbelly.

Thoughts on the color combo?
