The colour combo sounds interesting, I think purple definitely has a regal feel to it, especially when next to gold but I'm not sure of there's many places to fit gold in except maybe the chaos star on the belt. Also I think the green lower body will contrast well with the fleshy upper part

Thanks!!

I might put the paint side by side on my palette and see what it looks like. I may just stick to bone or a darker brown for those parts. They don't look like they will mesh too well when I look at the color wheel.

Base coat down on the Dragon Ogre lower body. The green is nice, but I was hoping for something just a bit more rich, color wise. I may play around with either adding a bit of red or some darker green for the next one. We'll see how it goes once I glaze/shade the shadows and add a bit more color.

Te storm talon is coming along nicely, know what you mean though I bought one a while back but I hated trying to paint it, vehicles just aren't my thing especially marine ones which feel like I'm paying £30 for a plastic box

The dragon ogre is coming along nicely, I like that shade of green

Continuing with base colors for the Dragon Ogre. The Metallic is a 3:1 mix of Vallejo Metallic Rust and Vallejo Metallic Black. I don't know why, but I absolutely love the color. I played with a bunch of different ratios and the 3:1 is really nice to me. I will tone down the shine with a wash eventually. Straps done with Rhinox Hide.

Been crazy busy IRL and have had almost no time to paint. I've mostly been experimenting with skin tones and making/using Glazes vs. Washes. I've also been experimenting with mixing different paint colors to get different colors and such.

Hopefully soon I'll have more time as I'd really love to get the StormTalon finished and continue working on the Dragon Ogres.

Work on the Dragon Ogre continues. The scale panels are carefully washed with a mixture of Agrax Earthshade and Athonian Camoshade. I tried just Athonian Camoshade but the color was too close of a match and it didn't really do what I wanted it to do. Talons and Spikey bits were treated with the same wash.

I think I did about 5 layers of this before I was satisfied with the color.

I then just started doing some pin washing to give the muscles a little more definition. Much more of that to do.

I also used Nuln Oil lightly on the metallic parts and the belts holding them on. More heavily on the back legs as they are in the shadows more.

I've been spending way too much time with trying to get some skin tones that I like and finally came up with some stuff with the GW paint colors.

I based my color choices on bailey03's (if it's not bailey03's, my sincerest apologies. Someone please let me know which forum member it belongs to) brilliant Skin Tones tutorial seen here:
http://powellminipainting.blogspot.com/p/painting-skin-tones.html

I don't have Reaper paints but this is what I came up with
Chestnut Brown 9071: 50/50 mix of Mournfang Brown and Doombull Brown
Rosy Brown 9067: 50/50 of Bugman's Glow and Cadian Fleshtone
Rosy Skin 9068: Cadian Fleshtone
Fair Skin 9047: Kislev Flesh
Fair Highlights 9048: Pallid Wych Flesh
Pure White 9039: White Scar

Here is what the Bugman's Glow/Cadian Fleshtone mix looks like as a base coat:

Work on the Dragon Ogre continues:
I put some subtle shades in the recesses by pin washing with Agrax Earthshade. I also highlighted the talons with the original color where the light hits.

Lastly, I added a very subtle streak on the belly with a mixture of the original green and Ushabti bone about 50/50 mix and then wet blended them to fade the two together. I'm not even sure if it is all that visible, but it was my first try at this, so I wanted to to keep it subdued.

I am liking the colors on the dragon ogre. I think if you glaze some dark reds or purples in the shadows of the green skin would add some additional interest.

Hes coming along nicely, I think maybe push the underbelly colour a bit further to more cream would look good, the greens on thee body look good, as krule said you can glaze red or purple in the shades for a good effect, the blending looks pretty good for a first attempt, better than mine was lol you're on the right path though :)

Thanks!

I don't really have any deep reds or purples. Would it be reasonable to add a touch of black to Khorne Red to deepen it? I'm just starting with glazing and color mixing so any help in that regard would be awesome.

Dark brown will darken red.
Think I can spot a pesky mold line on his right knee :)

Okay, thanks!

That was a a scratch I made while trying to remove the mold line, LOL.

There were a TON of mold lines on these models. It took me about 90 minutes of careful scraping to get rid of them.
