Can you tell me how the hell a mini (with about 14 votes) scored 9.4 falls down to 8.6

By my calcs, a miniature with a 9.4 and 14 votes can drop to only 8.8 if it\'s sniped with a 1. Dropping to 8.6 would require two votes: one at 1, and one at 5. Though a higher score is mathmatically easier to drop with a very low vote than it is to push it up with a very high vote, as a miniature gains more votes, it becomes mathmatically harder to affect at all with any deviant score. And of course, once it hits 50 votes, the anti-snipe algorithm kicks in.

I don\'t mind 2-3 multiple views as long as the figure is complex enough that it warrants it. A diorama, or highly detailed piece like the nurgle giant, or something like really great freehand on the back of figure. But I\'m betting that like most people, I tend to let myself be carried randomly through images as I vote. That means if I happen across a back view of something, it\'s going to have to be truly brilliant for me to make any sense of it. There are a lot of unnecessary \"back views\" out there and just not anything impressive about the vast majority.

In short, a back view is going to have to be special in its own right for it to be necessary. There\'s no point in posting \"amendment\" views that only work if you know what the rest of the figure looks like.

I\'d categorize excessive views in the same way as \"another mini.\" Everything Supervike said makes perfect sense to me.

So the last pic of it was simply a joke. I didn\'t wanted anybody to vote on it, just wanted to show my displease.
-=gibbon=-

Do you know HOW MANY votes there were in that period afterwards? Just keen to do some maths (first time since high school lol)

(Which could be seen to be acting heavy handed)

To answer some of your questions Mike:

I don\'t want the mods/admins to do a damn thing about this. I don\'t think there\'s is any need for \"official\" interference here. I suppose if it werre taken to the extreme and someone posted 25 pictures of the same mini, then there would be a problem. OTherwise, it\'s an annoyance - no more, no less. Life is full of annoyances - learn to deal with them.

BTW - I think that Klute is dealing with this particular annoyance in a very positive way - venting. And his venting gave others an opportunity to do the same. It\'s almost like a community sevice thing :D

One of the things I love about CMON is that it runs on the barest amount of rules possible. Yes, that means there\'s \"sniping\" and \"multiple postings\" and all those other annoying things, but there\'s also the Forums where we can all gather and piss and moan abot those things and vent our spleens. I love the fact that CMON is essentially a wide open democracy with all the pitfalls and rough and tumble things and petty annoyances that go along with that. FOr those who can\'t deal with that, all I ask is one big favor. Please don\'t try an \"fix\" it by imposing a long list of rules and constrictions. If you can\'t deal with the openess of CMON. go frequent or create a sight that\'s full of restrictions and heavy-handed guidelines and oppressive admins and mods. Let us have our free-for-all. Personally, I think it\'s a lot more creative enviroment.

Um.... but enough from me. Carry on. :D

EDIT: Hmmmmm...... Supervike seems to have said what I meant only with a lot fewer words lol and while I was being interupted by, of all things, being expected to actually do some work. God, I hate that!

Yeah, I was nitpicking, but if it happened over one vote, that\'s still obviously a snipe.

So many people complain that they\'d been \"sniped\" when in fact it\'s just a change well within expected variations. It\'s important to be accurate with the numbers to objectively classify whether it\'s a snipe or not, that\'s all. :)

Granddad!
we aren\'t sheep....

...are we? We still have free will.
You don\'t have to vote on a mini just because it \'pops\' onto your screen you can skip it, it is allowed.
If you are browsing someones gallery you don\'t have to vote on every pic in there, you can pick & choose which ones to vote on. If someone has multiples of the same mini it\'s up to the individual voter to decide on their relavence & vote or not accordingly...:D
* now, where was I?....oh yeah.. baah..., baah... ;) :D *

Not venting just wanting to air my opinions and see what others think.

I think its boiling down to if you dont like a multiple post dont vote on it.

Now dont get me started on the pic posted of some guys at a convention the other week.
THAT USERS WERE VOTING ON

sorry:D

One thing to consider is some people may not be adept at using Photoshop. When I did my first posts I put up multiple seperate posts of the same mini taken from different angles simply because I didn\'t know how to put them all on the same page. This might explain some of those.

bahhhhhhhh (sheep noise)

I think it comes down to the fact if a photo pops up on your screen it takes the same 1 click to vote on it as to skip it, and then your vote count goes higher too, so I tend to vote.

I know, sheep-like :(

Spare yourself the stress, mate. This sounds way too much like the people I knew in undergrad who would calculate \"The exam is worth 60% so in order to get an 85 in the course I have to get 88 on the exam\" before every exam. I never did that, it just stresses you and makes no difference in your mark. Especially here where you can\'t control how people will vote!

In conclusion, start caring about your mini\'s score at around the 50-100 vote mark - that\'s when it\'ll level out to its \"true\" score.

What stress? It\'s not my miniature. :D

Besides, even if it were one of mine, it\'s just a case of analyzing what\'s happening. No emotion or stress involved; it\'s just being objective.

Is this Coolmini or not or is it the Golden Demon?

I\'m glad to see that Gibbon intends entering the giant in the GD this year and just wish all you painting geniuses would remember this is not (at least I dont think it is) a competetive website. - So if you want a true \"unbiased\" rating for your minis enter them in a competition like the GD or Rackham\'s or Reaper\'s etc equivalent (where the rules carry the rider that the judges opinion is final and cannot be challenged!).

I dont recall any prizes being given here for the \"coolest\" mini - or have I missed something?

If you are really so egotistical take your pictures down as someone - I forget his name - did recently. You - and we - will be the poorer if you do but hey! life\'s too short!

Ps I havent really forgotten but probably will soon and isn\'t that the thing you don\'t want to happen?

Rant over - back to sleep!

I\'ve always found the whole thing with greens rather curious. People say they can\'t vote high for a green ebcause its not painted ??? yet are very willing to vote very high on a painted ini that was sculpted by someone else ??? If it\'s a green, vote on the quality of the sculpting. Seems simple enough to me. And why do you give the painter extra points or deduct points for painting a good (or bad) sculpt ??? They didn\'t do the work!

If you\'re going to vote low on an unpainted green, you should also vote low on a well painted mini scupted by someone else shouldn\'t you? Perhaps vote one through five on teh scupting and one through five on the painting and put them together  Thus, a brilliantly scupted piece would be a five. A brilliantly painted piece not sculpted by the painted would be worthy of only a five. Only the rare few (SJB leaps to mind) would be elegible for a ten for doing a brilliant scupt and then painting it very well.

Now, to answer my own questions, the reason none of this applies is because this is not Cool Paint Job or Not, nor is it Cool Scupt or Not. It\'s Cool Mini or Not! We give people credit for picking out a cool mini to paint ??? or dis them for NOT picking out a cool enough mini. Not sure that makes sense, but its how we operate, strange as that is. No, I don\'t want to change that. I\'m just pointing out how strange our conceptions are sometimes.

It\'s a little like giving someone huge props for doing a great paint job on \"David\" but dising Michelangelo when he posts the original because it\'s not painted. [SHRUG] We\'re a weird lot sometimes, but I love us anyways :duh:

PS - See what happens:rolleyes: I don\'t post much for a while and I get all long winded :]

Okay, challenge to anyone who partook in that old Photoshop challenge a while back:
Find a photo of Michaelangelo\'s David, color it in photoshop (or whatever) and post it. See how it gets scored.

Of course, as David is larger-than-life it might not be allowed because it\'s not a \"mini\".

Painting skill, imagination and style are key!

thats what it says at the top.

As far as I am concerned that went out the window a long time ago and I judge painting, sculpting and both as they come.If I think a paintjob is excellent (while taking into consideration the sculpt) I will score it such, same for greens.

\"competetive website\"

It looks pretty competetive to me.
I reckon most of those at the top find it competetive too, especially those selling their wares.

Wow alot has been said here. So here\'s my 2 cents, if ya\'ll care. :D

I am personally glad that the mods/admin are not heavy handed. It would be very unfornunate if the powers that be were to censor the amount of picts/posts that a member added to this site.

I am not as put out about multilple pictures of a mini, like the Giant, if that mini deserves multipule pictures. What I do find annoying is seeing a picture of the back of a mini that is just a badly painted cloak.

As for the voting on greens, I have totally changed my views on this. In the past I would not have voted as high as it may have deserved. Now I vote on a green the same as I would on a painted mini.
