My 2p on voting is that I vote for something that I like - this usually means that it shows at least competency in painting or sculpting although sometimes a quircky mini will get my vote as being \"cool\" as in COOLmini or not!

A case in point is the giant in question - I recognise the skill involved in the sculpt but the mini does not appeal to me. This does not mean I will give it a low score just that I won\'t vote omn it - my privelage -others may feel the same as me but give what they think is a \"fair\" score - ie low!

So as far as I am concerned there could be a dozen posts of the giant (AND THERE ARE!) but I won\'t be voting on it!

While my taste miight not run to some of the minis I\'ve seen here, I can certainly the appreciate the style, skill and effort put in by many. That alone merits a high score regardless of my own fickleness.

I dont like multiple posts of 1 mini in general, and definately follow links to see greater detail. Though I have no problem with seeing a repost down the road after a painter has made adjustments that might affect the score.

I think this is a competetive site for many, a source for self gratification, validation and a vast supply of inspiration and lessons. Everybody takes something different from CMON, and thats perfectly acceptable. Its just not possible to moderate it in such a way as to make everybody happy all the time. Its up to each individual to moderate themselves, and learn the unspoken CMON ettiquette.

I agree absolutely with what Nomis said.

I recognise the huge degree of skill involved in that giant and appreciate it is a work of the highest art...but I still don\'t like it. I wouldn\'t snipe it however, or vote low on it. I just choose to ignore it and let others have their say.

I am a bit fed up however with people\'s lack of appreciation that \'art\' is subjective. Having moderated over twelve thousand comments in the last 16 weeks I am sick to death of people saying things along the line of:

\"Are you people blind....\"

\"7.8 is a travesty on this mini....\"

\"How can anyone vote less than a ten on this...\"

etc, etc, etc.....ad nauseam

Not liking something...not thinking it\'s \'cool\' and voting accordingly is not the same as sniping it.

Just to chime in (since everyone else is doing it, and I don\'t really want to deal with programming sockets right now), I have to say that in general, the multiple post thing irks me.

In some instances, I don\'t mind; when the model really needs 3 shots or so to fully show off everything that\'s going on (as in the case of our giant here). What really bugs me is shots of nothing but the back of a model. :flame:

I think, too, that there\'s a difference in putting up enough shots to show the model, and putting up a lot of shots to try to improve your ranking. The first is ok with me, if it\'s obvious that is what is happening. The second is just plain stupid, just like actually worrying about what your ranking is and getting bent out of shape when your top model falls 0.2 points.

There\'s been a lot of threads complaining about the voting thing, and pretty much all of them wind up with the same result: if you don\'t like the voting, leave or get over it. As for myself, I\'ve decided to go with the \"get over it\" route, since the main reason I\'m still here is to trade tips and techniques and stuff (and because I really don\'t want to do socket programming right now ).

I think that Noomis and Finn pretty much have the right idea: if you don\'t care enough about something that\'s showing up, simply don\'t vote on it, rather than giving it a miserable score just because it isn\'t to your taste. I usually don\'t skip votes, but if it\'s something that\'s not \"my cup of tea,\" I\'ll still try to give honest consideration as to the techniques and overall impression. But YMMV.

I have to admit after everything I\'ve said on sniping, there still is that emotional reaction when it happens. It\'s really not about what the score is, but rather it\'s about how it got there I think. Although I think Gibbon brings up a good point: Win a Demon or a sword and no one can ever snipe that!

i think only 2 should be the limit is that many needed.

as with most you can take the pictures and stack them on top of each other to show multiple angles so long as they are no wider than 600 pixels.

there is no need for some like the terrain section to have the same thing in 10 different slots. i think they should get the 1 votes they deserve. i personally DO vote 1 on things that i have seen 4 times already.

either that or they need to be removed.

maybe member galleries should be able to show all 100 picts thumbnails instead of the 10 they do now. so when submitted they can be rejected if it is more than the second time it appears n the gallery.

ie for my space wolves icon i am gonna post the finished product when it is done and then remove the one i have now.

my troll chieftan i even put \"(repost)\" in the title of the second one since i took the pic again with a new camera.

and will delete one of them shortly.

Do the old trick of walking on by if possible and don\'t let things get to you. If server space is an issue, limit things. If not, things will be okay. Look out the window...there\'s a whole life we\'re missing whilst sat here splitting hairs lol.

multiples

The multiple post thing does bother me, but only really in situations where, as someone stated above, it appears as though they\'re exploiting it for rating purposes. Sometimes you\'ll see someone post a mini that is a big jump for them pointwise, and all of a sudden they have 3 or 4 different pics of it up. Just annoying.

And the giant is a cool fig, but the number of pictures of it is just getting ridiculous. If you have to have that many different posts just get a free account on photobucket and post extra angles there. I don\'t see why a couple couldn\'t have been combined- he obviously has some sort of photo editing software since he did the closeup on the face with the crosshairs on it.

But whatever, it\'s not really worth getting upset over.lol

Though I will say I am totally against any form of censorship unless as stated before it is obvious(porn etc).

Well yesterday, I dropped a Pebble in the Pond to watch the ripples.

And I\'m very glad to say that I got the responses to my questions that I had expected.
I can\'t speak for Borg, Finn, Temperance or Silvousplay but I am opposed to censorship, with certain exceptions. (Anyone remember the grossly inappropriate Slanneshi Deamons of last year, and the inappropriatly named Giant?)
The thought of having to contact members to request the reduction in the number of posts was not something I relished having to undertake.

As has been pointed out CMON has very few rules.
But it seems that we have certain expectations from our members in the etiquette of posting. This is a topic I\'m interested in exploring with the forum members and may start another thread to persue.

I will consider mentioning my views on multiple posting/spaming in my comments when I think someone crossed the line, but I don\'t think there should be rules or interventions from moderators or something. I think that if multiple posters get enough remarks on the matter they will adapt.

Well I have considered that in the past Anders but thought it a little confrontational,though considering some comments left maybe it would be the more appropriate thing to do.
