Kids are in bed, so time to paint. I've sort of settled on that time to do things. Watch (okay, listen) to YouTube vids while I'm painting. Mostly gaming videos where I don't have to watch continuously. But! I'm super stoked about showing the progress! Well, until I actually took the pictures. The pictures make things look quite harsh, and the effect is much more subtle. Think I can get that fixed when I take the gallery picture.
Let's begin. Started out doing some highlights on the vines. Luminous Green 9147. Not sure I've ever used that color before, so I had to rehab the bottle a bit. And so got that put in.
It had a lot of lighter areas to start with, so I didn't fret too much about doing it perfect. On to the pumpkin highlighting. This is what I was most excited about. Used Marigold Yellow 9007, and while the pumpkins around the bottom don't look quite right in the picture, they do look better in hand. But look at the big pumpkin in the middle! The body pumpkin!
Oh that is pretty. That's what I think they all need to look like. Not going to happen, but that's the goal. The head is nearly as nice, but you can't see it as well in the picture.
With a new boost of confidence, I moved on to Elise. She's supposed to be going at the same time, and I've just now caught up with Rotpatch that I can paint both at the same time. Did the same shade from last time (Muddy Brown 9028) and then the Marigold Yellow again. While the image isn't nearly as dramatic, it's looking like I want it to look.

What I'll still need to do on her is to get the purples more blending. I'm thinking I can probably go over it with the base coat but using it like a shading color. That should give what I'm trying to get. As for Rotpatch, I noticed that his head stem needs to be painted. I'll probably get that when I go to get the handle painted again. For his innards, I'm going to go with a standard pumpkin like white/cream. I did have a thought to putting a little dab of red right in the center, then doing an OSL effect coming out of his split spot on the body. Same for the eyes. Like some enchanted jewel is powering the golem. I thought maybe blue or green, but figure blue would be too jarring and green would blend in with the vines. Yellow wouldn't really show, orange would blend, and purple would be just very weird. Plain as it might be, red seems to be the way to go there.
