The armor\'s looking great man. My favorite way of painting Marine armor these days is to do the natural lighting as much as possible and a few edge hilights to add a bit more contrast and \"pop\" to the model. I think your Scout is a prime candidate for trying this out :)

Could eaily be your best minis so far, these DA\'s. Well the Avenger Exarch might give them a run for their money lol

Thanks for that Jericho, I tried to do natural lighting from the top, blending to the lightest at the top, but i didnt think about adding the line highlights, ill certainly try it out.

Hey everyone,
Well progress is going well and i have nearly finished the scout, but there is some big news.
I have just been informed that i will be able to enter the OZ GD this year :)
I have around 5 months untill it is held so this log will be a dark angels and GD 07 log from now on. I will be entering the under 18\'s category and just have to decide what to paint up.

Pics soon

Update!
Here are some new WiP pics of the scout, just the face, weapon and afew bits and pieces to finish off.
Im quite happy with how he\'s turning out considering he\'s army quality.
Sorry for the quality of the pics, its nearly impossible to photograph green AND white.

Looking very nice indeed what with the subtle, silky highlights. The metallic tubing looks a bit ropey compared to the rest of the paint job though and I think they could benefit from some extra work.

To make the wings on his chest armour pop more the skull in the centre could perhaps be done in metallics too. Not sure, but as it is it feels a little flat. I guess the rifle will mostly cover that area though.

About the rifle - bright red on Dark Angel weapons is something that has always bothered me anyhow, and as this is a scout sniper (who relies on stealth) I think it\'s even more important that the red is at the very least severely darkened. It can still be red, but start with a much darker tone, something almost black and work it up, with bright red only used on the very sharp and fine edge highlights.

Having said that, any sort of garish colours on Marines is a no for me, it just seems silly. It\'s why I chose Dark Angels over something with bright \'shoot me now!\' armour like Blood Angels or Ultramarines actually, so maybe this is personal preference more than anything.

Have you considered some camouflage on his fatigues or is that too much effort?

Oh, and the red pouch on his back. Is that definately something he should have on him. It looks to me like it could be a storage pouch for a Heavy Bolter magazine.

Thanks for your reply Lono,
The metallics are just base coated at the moment so they still have a bit of work left.
In regards to the red, ill go over it with some darker washes/glazes to darken it a bit, as i agree it is a little bright at the moment.
And the pouch on the back is part of the mini, but that will also be darkened like the gun.

:Edit: Forgot to answer your first comment :p. I may go over the chest symbol with a few darker washes etc to make it stand out a bit more.

Thanks again for your comments lono, helps me become a better painter.

SirDJ:

I just love that thin cork base so much I have to get myself registered and ask where you got the material from!;)

I live in Sydney, and it\'d be great if you can tell me the place to get those corks, or the website if you ordered them online. Thanks!

Your blending is really smooth and I\'d definitely be keeping a watch on the thread, keep it up and good luck with both the army and the entry!

Thanks for your reply The Panda,
I bought the cork off of eBay Australia, if you do a search in the eBay stores for cork you will find a few stores that sell it.

Thanks for your encouragement and i hope this helps,
SirJD

Coming from me this might sound funny, but he almost looks too clean for a Scout. Are you gonna try any weathering/paint chips on him? Adding some contrast to the bone areas might be a good idea too, the chest eagle could use a little more definition in the cracks maybe.

Overall he\'s looking head and shoulders above your other submissions now. No doubt about it :)

Thanks for that Jericho,
I will add a few more glazes/washes to the chest eagle to add a bit more definition.
I am still undecided on adding weathering/scratches etc, i think ill wait untill he\'s fully complete to decide.

Thanks again,
SirJD

Just went down to eckersley\'s today and got a sheet of cork, so much softer than I thought but the textures looks right, hopefully I\'d be able to come up with something similar to your awesome base, SirDJ, hope you don\'t me stealing the idea

Thanks Larre!

Update!
Ok guys, here are the pics of the completed scout. He was hell to photograph, and these pics still arnt the greatest.
There are afew bits here and there that ended up a little rough but overall im quite happy with him.
I ended up adding some freehand scratches to him here and there but the pics dont show it too well so i will try and get some that do.
He will be up on CMON for voting soon.
