But don\'t the stores pay for them also? The farmers are the ones to blame for making us eat the nasty stalks. :)

Finn, I refer your mushroom-stalk issue to my sister. Only yesterday it was that I ate a whole pack of fully-functional chestnut mushrooms in a rather attractive cream sauce. I felt sick afterwards.

Ohhhh the broccoli stalks are the best part, I cut the tops off, steam them, then eat the stalks raw while the tops are steaming! YUM!
Tip Don\'t waste your stalks send them to me:D
Tip 2, never go shopping hungry, you spend lots more. have your spouse or signifigant other take you out to a nice dinner firstlol

Hmm, broccoli, my favourite vegetable. Especially the Chinese variety which sems to have a stronger taste. Yum.
Er, rev, you\'re not using the trunk for cooking? I always do. Sometimes you need to peel the tough skin off but normally you can just cut in in pieces and stir-fry it with the rest.

As to tips, over here in the Netherlands we have supermarkets in different classes. High class like AH, middle class like C1000 and lower class like Lidl. The differences from high to low are less choice, fewer A brand articles, less service, less showy stands and cheaper price. Oh, and for some reason often less pretty girl at the counter. :) Actually, that\'s probably since pay is also lower.
Nowadays all three classes are doing so well you can usually find them all in a shopping centre. Since you can find quality articles in all three of them it can save you a fair bit of money if you know where to buy what. Of course, if it\'s just one article that would be cheaper in another story you don\'t bother, but when restocking stuff it\'s something to keep in mind.

We\'ll start by making them pay road fund licence for their damn tractors:flame: and remove all their subsidies.
Psychologists don\'t get subsidies...why should farmers???

I could do my job much more efficiently if I didn\'t spend half my life travelling at 3 mph behind a *$%#ing tractor!!

Sorry...you got me started about farmers..or more accurately...tractors:flame:

Rev: You sure it wasn\'t the cream sauce???

i rip the stalk off the broccoli too. mind you rev, do it while you can, apparently tescos are gonna start pre packing them because \'old ladies\' keep snapping them off!! also buy the dented tins and the stuff thats near it sell by date.

as for the \'grazing\' i went with my house mate and her father to the cinema once and was shocked to see him basically helping himself to a handful of pick\'n\'mix!! serves them right, they make a packet on that stuff

Finn, if the supermarkets didn\'t beat the farmers into submission over prices they wouldn\'t need subsidies lol

And let\'s not forget that there are BIG farms and little farms. There are some in between as well, but the farmers with the small to medium farms work to live, not to be rich. My lady is a farmer girl and I\'ve seen it all at first hand now. Tough life!

Still, that\'s the nature of the beast :(

Did Tesco really suggest that Tim, the packing and all? That\'s very bad lol. And how strong are these old ladies? I can\'t snap them and I\'m a young chap!

Another trick they do is to use the same sized can but put less stuff in them (coffee, vegetables etc...) Candy bars are getting smaller and more expensive.

:D I remember back when I was running grocery stores, there was this big promotin for \"Wheaties\". They put out all this promo signage and stuff and specially marked boxes all declaring \"New Larger Box!!!\" Funny thing was that is ALL it was - a larger box! Same amount of cereal as the old, smaller box, just took up more room on the shelves.

I am planning my strategies even as we speak. Hell I have been saving up 1ps for almost ten years, I have never, ever thrown away an expired credit card so I have about 250, I am going to buy one of those big, wide electric carts and become a legend:bouncy:

Hey Dauber: My favourite was when VIZ (the hilarious UK comic) put a banner on it\'s front page which read: New! Mansize size - New! Mansize price
