Works in Progress IV

@ Tagger - I did like the green and red together, but it looks good this way as well.

Took a pic to see how the skin is coming on this guy, want a darker, more tan look than I normally go for. I think I will have to go one more layer with the midtone, then maybe one final layer with the final highlight instead of the usual number of layers I do with that. Does he look to too dark as is?

I want to make sure I get him right - that look on his face kind of scares me lol

@Prime to dark no, to light no, but hes kinda flat lookin if the skins not done then i apologize but he really needs some shading.,..lol Overall i like the tone tho very smooth and correct for a barb

@ Primeval- it looks fine as is, though I do hope you are planning on actually highlighting and shading it... It looks a tad bit on the flat side.

Once again, here are some pictures of my men at arm... I need to know what people think of this style.... It is very muted, and extremely subtle blends... I need to know if people like the more natural subtle blends or if I should just go back to the strong contrasts. btw the weapon arm is completely unpainted.

@EP personally i love it, i went that rout with my dragon hunter on bottom of page 4, i think since im still new to the hobby and developing my style that i prefer a more realistic edge after trying both sides of the tracks. Heres a pick of the littl gnome guy whos gonna be holding a sword and shield for my DH when the dio is complete. If anyone has any tuts or tips on making a swrd/sheild outta plasticard and GS please do tell as this will be my first attempt at weapons...lol

Thanks guys - he only had a couple layers of skintones in that pic, so that\'s why he is flat; I was just wondering if that tone was too dark or if it would work for a tan barbarian. Since the opinion seems to be it is ok, I will move to highlighting instead of layering up anymore. Thanks!

And that shield is great EPStudios - very beaten and worn looking!

@Ep I really like how you\'ve done your man-at-arms, you\'ve inspired me to finish my brettonians! The only critique I have for you is to make the red cross on the shield longer so all ends touch the border of the shield. It is historically accurate that way and looks more realistic!

!! That\'s it!! I\'ve been wondering what to do to the cross.... Something just seemed off. Does the horizontal strip go to the edge too? If so I am going to have to raise it a bit...

Edit- nevermind... I just read your message a bit better

Possibly my last posting of this miniature before submitting it. I can\'t decide if this is my best miniature to date or one of my worst. It is definitely different. I really like the realism effect I got going, but I\'m not too sure how well it is going to go over as far as the ratings are concerned...

@ EPStudios - veyr nice! Gritty and battle-worn - great job! I am not sure about the black background though, the figure doesn\'t seem to really \"pop\" against it.

@EPStudios, love it man just love it, one thing that i saw i wanted to mention (and no its not a painting thing...lol) the very tip of the blade has a ball on it like a little round bump it may be the photo but to be safe look into it. I also agree the black doens tmake the fig pop but it does set the tone.

Update did some more highlighting /shading on my dragon hunter, in the last pic the white spot on the arm is glare from the ink lining i did not missed paint :D. Im really happy with this fig and i hope that my painting will improve on further projects.

I seem to be on a bit of a roll at the minute, this is another Sacred Blade miniature and again it is a great sculpt. It is a female paladin and I am having great fun painting this one. The picture is not the best as I am having to paint this in my pin vice until I have a base made for her, but I think you can get the idea of where I am going with it.

FemalePaladinWIP1.jpg

Hope you like it. Hopefully I can have her on a base very soon so I can some better shots of the mini.

@ Tagger - liking the red contrasting with the coppery gold armor parts.

@Tidoco2222 - I guess I have not checked out the Sacred Blade stuff for awhile, I don\'t recall seeing her before. Nice metallics as always.

Got the barbarian done:

Nyvek, Aesir Adventurer

Thanks as usual for the advice/opinions along the way!

LAst time I\'ll post this, as I\'ve sealed this section! I found that in certain lights the bone appears to have taken a green cast to it. I\'m hoping its just a trick of the mind, as it doesnt show on the photo\'s and the water I\'ve used to thin my varnish is pretty clean (i.e. the varnish didn\'t take any sort of tint, pre application). I\'m not trying to batch paint a squad with the same icon!

Well aside from it not done at all, any suggestions how I could paint a nice sun faded blondish-red beard / hair? Also I need some ideas on how I could paint some whaler tattoos, as well as what the wraps around his wrists should be; leather or \'bandage\'. suggestions for pants color?

EPStudios: that Mordheim warband is going to look pretty cool. I like your plan to make them look \"grungy\" or more like real medieval foot soldiers. I bet they\'ll look really badass on the table when you\'re done. I like the guy you\'ve submitted so far.

Just started this guy. Reaper \"Eldritch Demon\":

@dog, leather for the wrists or you could go cloth is it matched the belt. Whaler tattos hmm, a anchor would be a good one, or a fishing hook, or if your particularly fancy smancy a mermaid...lol

@NSA o_O hes very green ..i like it tho amazing that i dont see a ounce of rotting flesh on him...lol

Hehe Gnome love :

Hes gonna be holding a shield on the ground with his raised arm and a sword by the scabbard in the one near his chest =D

@Dogfender- I\'d suggest bringing the skin up another layer. Also consider using a wash to help blend the transition between the different layers of skin. Currently there is too much of a contrast between the two layers.

@NSA- That\'s mightily green.... You\'re not going to catch up to me if you paint such greeeen things. :p

@Tagger- could you post a coin or something along side that gnome in order to show the general size of it?... I am assuming it is smaller than your average miniature.

@Lupoloopy- Looks great.... Now STOP POSTING IT!!... Just kidding. No better place to post the same thing 20 times than the WIP forum. Keep up the good work.

Now for my up and coming stuff... Couple things. I am looking to paint my first ever 9+ miniature. It will not be leaving the WIP forums until the vast majority of you think it is ready to only receive 9s and 10s. (In other words it will be in here forever) Anyways, I\'ll be posting this one section by section until he\'s finished... here\'s a picture of his arm using my super macro mode (around 1 cm away from the model). This mode shows a few paint streaks that need to be covered up, but otherwise pretty much finished. (the fur patches haven\'t been started)

And here\'s the continuing progress on the unit of chaos Khorne Chosen knights that I am painting on commission.
