Man that\'s a great looking piece! So does the GS hold up well enough to provide stability for a piece like that? Seems like you\'d need to use a clear sprue or similar to support underneath the figure there. Anyway, love to see WIP pics of this one...

this is a trial for a unit of chaos beastmen space marines. Just a rough job so far to get the ideas down.
Have just started doing the greenstuff.

That is awesome. I always wondered if there was a good way to do beast men in 40k. That looks pretty cool so far, can\'t wait to see it painted.

The armour is a bit more yellow IRL but I couldnt tweak it and still keep it looking close to the same.

Practice on the camera. Here is my second WIP for the tank. It is the carriage and the gun for my super heavy arty tank. I have just got some 2*4\'s and am building the hull. After some hours of measuring and searching I found some tank tracks that will be adequate for this purpose. Next post will be the hull progress.
Project Totals:
Hours invested:20
Headaches:2
Accidental breaks of parts:2
Good repair jobs on accidental breaks:1
Cost:$80-gun $50-tracks 2*4s:freebie

I\'m converting a Plastic Termie into a Terminator Librarian for a good friend of mine, who\'s birthday is coming up. Still need to sculpt a cloack, give all the skull icons horns and give him a Force Halberd

If you are looking for some possible ideas, if you can get hold of some really old White Dwarf magazines, in the good old days GW actually made 40k beastmen Imperial guard.

I posted most of this in another thread, but belatedly relised i should have put it in this WIP thread. Thanx foryour patience...

The trials and tribulations of YELLOW!

Ok, I\'ve mebarked on a bit of an odd project. I\'m painting a Vor-Growler \'army\' for use as monsters in a rpg i play. Thanx to ebay i have 50+ of these criters (of various sizes)!

So, I\'ve been painting a lot of yellow monster skin recenty (understatement of the week).

I started out with one of the larger models, and here\'s a list of my screw-ups so far...

1) I undercoated it black (yes i know very silly, but i thought it would help to make the look grimer) and getting good coverage has been a nightmare. 6 coats of yellow to get anything remotely smooth

2) I washed it with \"dark yellow\" - ok, so i mixed some small amount of black in with the yellow, then when i dried in daylight I noticed it was quite green.

3) I\'ve highlighted up with yellow, lemon yellow and white (I use foundry paints) in various mixes, cilminating with a full white sparing highlight. Although i\'m fairly happy with the highlighting it has made the overall look a bit washed out.

so, here\'s the question...

Is there a way i could make this \'pop\' a bit more and perhaps take away the slight green tinge.

On the pic below the \'scales\' are going to be green, and i want a good contrast to the yellow skin.

I thought about glazing with a yellow ink... would that work?
Never glazed before and never used inks. So would appreciate a bit more than \"yeah, slap some ink on...\"
How would i do this to make the overall skin tone more yellow, without just applying an ink wash that sits in the recesses - i\'m particularly worried about this as the yellow ink would be lighter than some of the surrounding highlights.

Thanx in advance for any help you can offer...

Spawn wip 01.jpg

As you can see i\'ve only highlighted the face and the arms so far

Brandlin: oh dear, oh dear... yellow and black? They mix on a bee, NOT on your palette :( I don\'t think you necessarily pooched yourself by starting with yellow over a black undercoat, but it certainly won\'t make things easier. Shade your yellow with a brown, one that looks right to you. And when you put ink on.. use a very dilute ink, it should enhance the \"yellowness\" but not sit in the recesses as a distinct colour like you mention.

Here\'s my latest, at any rate. A Chaos Space Marine, made from parts in the FLGS bitz box.

Does anyone recognize the backpack or torso/head? I\'m just wondering what his bitz were originally...

That mini is looking really good Tony. The colours go together very well.
Not so sure on the base, Its well done I am just not sure about it for some reason, cannot put my finger on what though.
Great Work

@Tony : I\'m having issues with the metal on the base. It doesn\'t seem thick enough and it just looks grey (your metal on the armor is a lot better). Also I think the pipes on the base could use some highlights; they\'re kind of hard to read. Maybe you could add some brown to the earth to contrast with the grey pipes. Also, I think you shoud either glaze the blood on the base or desaturize it with some brown or purple.
