Damn skel, that banner is freakin awesome. I've gotta say your work just keeps getting better and better (this thread demonstrates your improvement). As for what to do in the rest of the banner, I assume you are going to keep it pretty dark (to keep the glow effect on the daemon)? In which case wouldn't some star constellations work well?

keep it up, this is great inspiration.

Cutting away the lower part to make a straight banner is a great idea, I hate painting that part anyway, that part just feels awkward.

did an easy tzeentch symbol on the backside, nothing spectacular has to be enough now i feel.


...and reeeeeally lost the painting mana :/ i hope it will return when its time to paint the little critters, but to paint the rest of the metal icon feels not inspiering at all.

Oh...been there done that Skelly - I second the motion to try a different mini. Find one you absolutely love, always wanted to paint, even if it's a different scale or one you would never enter in a contest ever, and one that has no strings attached for completion.

ive actually come to the point when i feel its time to move on. no, not from painting but from GW. i feel very little joy when i see my pile of gw miniatures at home. so, ive started to sell and giveaway most of those, just keeping the really cool ones. like bile trolls i will try to finish the horrors though, as said i hope it feels better when i start painting little monsters

oh and ty ischa :good: come and get your skellie horses soon!

Can't say I blame you there. I made the same decision a couple months ago. I still paint some for friends, but I sold 95% of the stuff to someone who will actually use it.

Yeah, there are so many good miniature companies out there to pick from, don't let GW get you down! As AndyG said, I'm sure you could do some amazing things with the old Rackham figures or some of the new Kingdom Death stuff. I think Enigma makes some very cool figures. Also check out Andrea miniatures. They're mostly historical, but there's their Warlord Saga line (fantasy) and Dark Nova (Sci-fi). Other than that, I've found the CMON store is a great way to find minis and companies I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Considering the level of work you do on the GW stuff, I can't wait to see what you do with something new!

I'm slowly moving away from them too. God help you as you take your head out of the sand and look around. There are so many awesome mini makers out there! I said I;m done with armies and i just want to paint cool minis for my cabinet? I'm gonna need a bigger cabinet -_- BTW your "uninspired painting" is so good it makes me a little worried to see what you do when you get excited. As for the burnout? A different mini is a good idea, so is a different SCALE and even a different style of painting. Maybe just make a bunch of display bases since that can be a kind of organic process and then find figures you think would work with them. Working backwards can be fun too!

Yes branch out. GW is falling behind on so many areas.

The new wyrd plastics are excellent. Do a Archangel or a mountain king from PP. Freebooters fate would look ace in your style too.

Freeboters fate minatures are really nice sculptet and very good quality.
