He is looking bloody good mate! Do you remember the silk look that 10 did on his gold elves? If you felt the urge you could go lighter on the highlights. He is looking Amazing though.

The wing on the head looks good, can't even tell it broke. I really like where you're going with the sleeves, goes very well with the gold.

Thanks guys. I'm very happy that the purple recipe (courtesy SkelletetS on his Emperor's Children Forgeworld SM) is positively received. Here is my latest update. I will add some pure white to increase the glare on the armor in a couple places, as well as some purple reflection to appease Bailey03. I think I shall paint the leaves and flowers on him next before tickling this cloak of multitudinous folds. Thanks and cheers!

Hi,

Cool advance.

I think some light blue on the nmm could be a good add to the armour.

And the eyes you have painted in green I believe it would works better on purple. More armonic with the rest of the miniature and because of the gold nmm the contrast will help to stand out them.

I have writed this on a travel with my Mobile, hopefully you understand what a want to say.

Many thanks,
Mariano

hmm, weird, for the last 2 years I've knows you you pushed the NMM armor. But no matter how good that is on the figure, I like the purple cloth much much more.

as for the purple reflections: I think a few VERY THIN glazes are enough near the clothes. They don't have to look purple, just feel as there is a purplish tinge to it.

For the future freehands: good luck. That's the part I also fear the most.

@ Aniku- Understand you completely. I fear adding too much purple if I make his eyes this color. His cape will likely be purple too, so this would be overkill. I chose a greenish yellow for the eyes because this is a split complimentary of red-violet. Incidentally, the other compliment from this split is pretty much the gold that I am using.

@Maxxx-Well thanks for the compliment, that is a huge one and very much appreciated. I like the cloth too and I'm glad I went with it instead of the red used by Soule. And I think you are spot on with the purple reflections. Sound advice there from you, as usual.

@Fluister- Thanks bud! I am definitely thinking of doing some of the flower patterns you introduced. But I also have a bit of additions to this. I'm thinking maybe keep the cape white until 2/3 of the way down. Then some sort of gold pattern that stretches from the left side to right side of the Cape, and more or less of a line. Then everything beneath this Gold Line is red violet, with flower patterns painted on by lightening the same red violet. Can u picture this?

One of the most important lessons you will learn from this site: always paint so as to appease Bailey03!

I agree with MAXXxxx, the purple is really fantastic. And I think the NMM is definitely your best to date. As for the reflections, like MAXXxxx said, just some glazes to start could be enough. You want the armor to pick up a hint of the purple, not glow with it. Take a look at some of the top NMM painters and see how they handle stuff like that. My advice on the freehand work is don't worry about making it perfect on the first pass. When I do a design or picture, I go over it again and again and again. For a picture, try using some thinned down paint to do a rough sketch on the figure. Then, using that as a guide, you can go back with less thinned paint to clean it up and add detail. Over the course of a week or more, I'll reevaluate the image and go back to make adjustments multiple times. The more time you spend doing this, the nicer the end result should be. Take my steampunk chick as an example, I showed an image of the first pass at the striped pants and they were pretty rough. Then I showed my 2nd or 3rd pass at them. I'll go back for another 2 or 3 passes when I highlight and shade. Each time the tweaks and adjustments will get smaller.

The way you keep improving, we really need to get you out to some of these live competitions. The way this piece is going I'd think it would definitely be a contender for a Crystal Brush in Fantasy Single.

Oh, and I also think the green for the eyes works just fine

If I remember correctly Blood said he's moving to Florida, most of FLA is an okay drive away from Atlanta, so just go win CMON Expo and get a free flight to Chicago for Crystal Brush 2016. Should be pretty easy, right? lol

Dam he's looking good. Still think the purple needs more highlights. I agree with not over doing the purple less is more.

just to confuse you a bit :p :

1. Canny can be right about extra highlights on purple
2. I don't think so. I think not everything has to be highlighted to an almost off-white and it gives a nice contrast by itself (non-too-contrasty cloth vs high contrast nmm) and I'd like to quote you:
One thing I have to say about your work is that you know just when to stop adding layers. I, and many others, tend to over do it, but you seem to be disciplined enough to know when to stop.

3. I think we should leave it for Bailey to decide. We already learnt on this page:

I can't think of a higher compliment from a more admired painter than this from you.

::Single tear rolls down cheek. BloodFather takes his Winsor&Newton Series 7 Watercolour, Size 2 and collects the tear on its bristles. Mixes the tear with GW Xereus Purple and begins glazing his half-painted figure::
